5. He Said to Rest

“Miss you need to eat, and stay in bed.” Morris commented looking confused as to why she’d even try and get up. Aries was barely gone and she was ready to stand up and go.

“I can do that once I get my cure worked on. It’s important, people are dying.” She swung her legs to the side of the bed and fought the dizzy spell that came to her. He set the tray of food next to her and looked like he was going to shake his head at her but refrained.

“You haven’t eaten anything really since you came here. At least eat before you attempt anything. You need the strength.” He told her kindly and pointed to the food. “If you don’t mind me saying so, right now you look like you’ll fall over where you stand.” She pursed her lips and looked at the food. Which her stomach did indeed cramp slightly clearly starving.

“Food might be nice.” She conceded finally and reached over to pick up some kind of fresh baked roll and it was delicious. Definitely fresh, and the second it hit her stomach she practically moaned with it. Oh wow this was good and she was so freaking hungry!

“Not to fast, I’d hate for you to be sick.”

“This is delicious, I’ve never had such good food.” She told him digging into the next item like ham or something and that was even better with her starved body. Her stomach felt tight, but not like she was going to throw up. “I’m so hungry.”

“Thank you Miss, I’ll tell my son and his wife you approve of their cooking. I would presume you are, quite hungry. We only managed to get you to rouse a few times for some liquids, and not much else.” She had no memory, though she could recall being carried a few times. That authoritative voice that she now knew was Aries. Which she glanced at the door, he was an imposing figure.

“Where are we exactly?” Sybil asked.

“This is where most our people live. It’s built into the mountainside, most stay here right now because of how horrid our weather has been. The snow seems never ending, and try as they might our enemy is great and we are few.” He gave a smile.

“So you are a guardian too?” He looked confused for a moment and then seemed to realize something. He moved about the room picking a few things up. Seeming to try and decide if he needed to bring cleaning supplies or something. At least that’s how it looked as he checked for dust. There was a good air around him, a calm one and he seemed on the proper side.

“I forget that your people call us that. No I’m not a guardian you’ve seen, but we are the same race. Just different forms of it. I know other people and places really like the term werewolves. We appreciate your people don’t call us that. Many see werewolves in a negative light.” He smiled moving back over to her and the now empty tray. For one second she swore she saw a sheen that went over his eyes. But it was gone just as fast, it made her curious.

“How so? What makes you different?” She inquired.

“The details aren’t important and I’d hate to bore you.” He told her motioning to the bed. “Not when you should be resting.

“I don’t think it would be boring. Your kind is brave and rather fascinating in what you do.” No one knew much about guardians. Now she was really curious, he was her height, and he looked in shape. Just getting on in years, but she wouldn’t count him out. Though he didn’t seem like a fighter. Her curiosity grew and for a moment the cure was put on the back burner for a couple minutes.

“How about I make a deal with you. You rest and I’ll tell you the difference.” She eyed him.

“You are trying to bribe me and distract me.” She said thinking.

“I might be trying to. Our Prime is concerned about your wellbeing and given instruction. You can rest here, and time moves slower on your side. A couple hours rest will not hurt anyone. From what I have been privy too, you are the only one that has made the cure. So that makes you important.” She sighed and thought about relaxing, especially with the full stomach.

“I have written down how to make it. others can now.” He had a kind expression, patient. It reminded her of her father when he needed to explain something to her and wasn’t sure how she’d take it.

“You may have written it down perfectly Miss, but it is your magic that has done it. You aren’t the first to try, but you are the first to succeed. There is always the chance that the cure won’t be correctly made by anyone else. Spells can be weaker or stronger depending on the caster you know. Yours seem perfect from what I hear.” He told her.

“But I’m better now, trust me I can manage.” She moved to stand and was proud of herself when she didn’t collapse and stood straight. Though her legs tingled a bit and felt almost numb for a second. “See I’m standing on my own. You should show me where I can make it.”

“Perhaps you’d like a change of clothes.” He commented pointing toward what looked like a bathroom. From here she could see what looked like folded clothes there. It might be nice to freshen up a bit before working.

“That would be nice.” He gave her a smile.

“Perfect, I will come back shortly and show you where to go.” She gave a nod and smile and then walked over to the bathroom making sure that she didn’t sway or anything and he left. Which once she was in the bathroom she definitely leaned on things a bit. Felt like she was growing stronger by the minute though.

She looked at the bathroom and like the other room, the walls were stone. Still it looked rather modern to her. She figured out how to get the shower on. Which was stand up and more like a basin in the floor with curving rock walls. A sheet that also curved around it and was slick to the touch. She found some showering items and just used what looked like soap. She hoped it wasn’t something else, but she really wanted to be clean and the hot water was blissful.
