“Ella, stop!”

I yell at my best friend, who keeps taunting me. We were outside in the woods having a camp out.

“Oh, come on, we used to play chase all the time”

“Yes, but not right now. Let’s, go roast some marshmallows or go inside the tent”

She brushes me off and runs.

“Catch me if you can“

I could feel my wolf coming forward as she taunted me. My 16th birthday was the month prior , I shifted for the first time and ever since, I haven’t been able to control my wolf.

Catch me”

She called out, not aware of the inner struggle I was facing.

Eventually, I lost the battle with my wolf and I charged after her, shifting into my wolf in mid air.

The sound of a scared heartbeat, the quick breathing of the victim as it's being chased, the sound of the feet as it thuds the ground in hurried movements felt heavenly to my wolf.

“Claire!!”

Ella screams my name, as she looks behind her, my Wolf closing in on her.

“Help!, somebody help me, please, Claire ”

Clueless Girl, this made her more excited, I was no longer in control. This wasn’t me, this was my wolf, and she was blood hungry.

Ella tripped on a rock and fell. My wolf wasted no time to pounce on her.

'“Hi”

She whispers, but this makes my Wolf angry, and she growls at her. She was not supposed to talk back. The animals she had killed didn’t make a sound.

Doggie calm down. I’m not bad, do you want meat? Clarie and I have some not too far fro

Before she could finish, my Wolf was ripping through her, only stopping when her heartbeat became faint.

“Omg Ella”

I cried when I shifted and realised what my Wolf had done.

“Claire”

Ella looked up at me in shock before she choked on her own blood and died.

“no, no”

I held her close to me. What have I done?

“Clarissa I hate you “

Attempting to bring her back, I shouted at my wolf.

I hugged her close to my body as the rain poured down on us

From that moment, I vowed never to use my wolf again, never to accept her as part of me,I  rejected her.

"You are no longer a part of me. I don’t want you. Look what you made me do. You made me kill my best friend, you're a cold blooded killer Clarissa. "

Present Day

" Wakie, Waike "

My mom shouted and I slowly opened my eyelids.

" Hurry, and get ready for work, dad's waiting for you downstairs "

She then left and I climbed out of bed.

While taking a shower I tried to shake off the horrible feeling of the dream I had earlier.

It wasn't dreaming honestly, more like a flashback and I hate that I'll have to start my day off with this awful memory.

Mom was happy to see me in my nurse  uniform and so was dad, with not even a minute to spare we left for work.

***

I was a little nervous to enter the building of the pack's infirmary, since it was my first day, but my father gave me a squeeze and now I'm ready.

Opening the doors I was greeted by the

welcoming aura of doctor Lynch.

" Right on time!, your desk is over there"

She motioned to a desk and I noticed some files on top of it.

I placed my handbag down and tested out the chair.

Pretty comfy!

" The first task of the day is to organise those files in alphabetical order, then call the patients one by one, by their names to see me, after that you'll make a new appointment for their next visit.

Once that is out of the way, we'll deal with the patients who don't have an appointment.

" Noted Doc "

I wasted no time to start arranging the files, there were only 8 patients which made it easy to arrange.

One by one I called each of them in, they visited the doctor then I made an appropriate appointment date which is in 4 months time.

These patients were doing fine, but due to them having chronic illnesses, it's important to have them checked regularly to ensure they're doing well and their prescriptions are up to date.

A man walked up to my desk, just as I was about to start calling in the patients without an appointment.

He appeared to be in his mid 20s, pure black eyes that reminded me of someone I once knew and dusky brown hair.

" Good morning Nurse, I'm Beck Bloomfield, I have an appointment for today "

I didn't remember calling his name, So I checked and his name wasn't on any of the files.

" Sir, I'm sorry but you don't have an appointment and we've already- "

I tried to explain but he cuts me off before I could finish

" Nurse, I know what you'll say, but I didn't mean for this to happen, I'm severely I'll"

" You said your name was Back Bloomfield right?"

He nods and I sigh

" Give a minute please "

I checked his docket and he was, he has what is called low healing count, which prevents a Wolf from healing at the rate a regular wolf would.

While a normal Wolf would heal in minutes, it would take someone with this illness from a week up to a month and in most severe cases months to a year.

" I have to assess you, before I send you to the doctor. What's the cause of your concern? "

He lifts his shirt and I was shocked by what I saw. It's pretty bad

I sent him straight to the doctor, that's pretty bad injury for someone with cells that doesn't regenerate at a normal level.

***

It was now lunch and I was sitting by the water fountain eating the fruits mom had packed for me.

My first day has been fantastic so far and I'm glad I pushed myself to do this.

" Hey "

Someone called out from behind me, startling me.

" Beck "

It was the guy from earlier with the low healing count.

" Oh my gosh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you "

He apologises but I shook him off

" You're good, how's your abdomen?, "

He plopped himself down beside me

" Doc says it will take months before it would be fully healed "

" I don't understand how you could allow something like that to happen to you, your cells don't "

" Nurse, I know, but that doesn't mean I can't have a normal life or do normal stuff. I was training among the pack soliders when it happened "

" mmh "

I hummed, I understood where he was coming from, but they're " normal stuff" he could do, that wouldn't jeopardise his health.

"My aunt is into natural remedies, surely she must have a paste or a drink of some sort that could help speed up the healing process"

"That sounds great"

Something he said sparked my interest.

" Do you think she would have some herb or anything to help the relationship between a young woman and her wolf ?"

I asked hoping he'd say yes.

"Maybe, who do you want it for?"

"A patient "

Lying wasn't something I liked to do but I couldn't possibly tell him it was me.

"I will ask her when I visit her "

" Thanks very much Beck "

I went to hug him but quickly caught myself, that would be inappropriate.

For the sake of us both, it's time me and my wolf get over what happened 6 years ago.
