LOGINI woke up with a groan. My eyes felt heavy and my body ached. The ball last night had weighed me down more than expected.
"What a terrible nightmare," I chuckled to myself, remembering the events that transpired. “Imagine being mated to..." The words dried down on my tongue when I spotted the green ball dress I'd worn the night before. It, in fact, wasn't a nightmare; I was really mated to Cassian. I laid down on my back, staring up at the ceiling. Cassian. "Talia?" My sister's voice called out from outside the room. I ignored her, hoping she'd go away. "I know you're up." I shut my eyes and turned to my side, the moment she twisted the door knob. I heard footsteps and then, blinding lights. She opened the curtains, the morning sun spilling in like poison, hurting my eyes. I groaned. She took the covers off me. "Come onnnn," she grabbed my shoulders, dragging me up to a sitting position while I grumbled underneath my breath. “It’s the day after your official Luna coronation." "There's no such thing as a Luna coronation," I countered, finally sitting up. She settled beside me, her eyes wide with mirth. “Well, you know what I mean." Why was she always so cheerful ? Tasha and I were twins, but we were what you'd call polar opposites. She had blonde hair and blue eyes, taking after our father, while I had ginger hair and green eyes, like our serpent of a mother. She was cheerful and social, while I was the gloomy outcast. "I saw an announcement on I*******m," she continued. “There’s going to be another ball where you'd be announced as Cass... Alpha Cassian’s," she corrected herself, "partner." "What ?" "Yep. The ball last night was strictly for pack members. Now he has to be officially announced to the world as the new CEO and you his bride." "I'm not his bride," I corrected. “Sure," she rolled her eyes, picking up her phone. I forgot about that. The humans were oblivious to the world of wolves so it's only natural that they announce me as a bride. In other words, another party is going to be held and I'll have to be around him again, smiling. I sighed, dreading the thought. "Now that you're the Luna, we'll need to prepare you f..." The doorbell went off, interrupting her. We exchanged a confused look. Our mother wasn't home, she worked at the pack hospital. We weren't expecting any guests so who could be at the door ? "I'll go get it" Tasha offered. I nodded, following after her to see who it was. The door opened to reveal Amanda, a girl from my childhood. "Hiii" she brushed past Tasha, barging into the house and throwing her arms around me" I frowned at Tasha in confusion. She shrugged. "Talia" she pulled back, holding my hands tightly. "It's so nice to see you again" "Um ... sure" I eyed her cautiously. Amanda. I didn't particularly like her or dislike her. She was just a girl in the background, a girl I never spoke to. It was a surprise she was here, hugging me and acting like we were old friends. "Luna" I looked behind Amanda and noticed an elderly woman bowing, a fruit basket in one hand. It clicked. Amanda was here for clout. I pulled my hands away, taking a step back. I pinned her with a hard stare. "Amanda" my voice was cold, disappointment evident in my eyes "what are you doing here?" "I came to pay my respects Talia, and to welcome you back" she smiled. "Luna" I corrected "you've paid your respect, you can leave now" She looked shocked, her mouth opening and closing. She averted her gaze to the ground, her cheeks flushing in embarrassment. She turned around and stormed off, the elderly woman following behind her but not before dropping the fruit basket at the entrance. Tasha shut the door behind them, her eyes wide with amusement. "That wasn't so nice" she reprimanded, picking up the fruit basket. "She deserved it" I followed her to the kitchen where she set the basket on the counter. "You're the Luna now. You need to learn how to handle things politically" "I don't want to handle things politically." I sighed "I don't want to deal with them." I casted my gaze to the ground "I just want to go home" "You are home" I shook my head, playing with my fingers. I felt my eyes sting with tears. "This isn't home" "Then where is home?" I said nothing. I didn't have an answer for her. I couldn't say America was my home. I went there for college and that's it. I didn't make any real connections in the four years I spent there. I couldn't consider here, Italy my home either. It held too many bad memories. So where was home ? The door bell rang. Tasha and I froze. "If that's Amanda again…” The door bell went off again. I stormed out of the kitchen, heading towards the front door, angered by the intrusion. The door bell went off again. I opened it, glaring daggers at the figure I didn’t expect to see. Cassian. Of course. Because hell couldn't let me breathe for a full hour.Talia's POV FIVE YEARS LATER The house was loud. Not the kind of loud that came with danger or panic, the kind that came with chaos, children, and one absolutely unhinged uncle. I leaned against the kitchen doorway, pinching the bridge of my nose as a high-pitched shriek echoed through the hall. "MILO! TELL THEM TO LEAVE MY WOLF PLUSHIE ALONE!" That was Rowan, my son. One half of the twins. He was wild like fire, sharp like a blade and stubborn like... well, me. "No!" his sister Aria snapped back. "It's mine now! You said I could hold it!" "I SAID YOU COULD HOLD IT, NOT KIDNAP IT!" Before I could intervene, Nicole popped out from behind the couch holding a tray of cookies and wearing a ridiculous apron. "Children!" he announced dramatically. "You must learn the ways of negotiation. Aria, demand concessions. Rowan, threaten war. This is very simple." "Nicole," I groaned, "stop encouraging them." "Encouraging?" Nicole gasped, fake-offended."I'm educating them. These are val
Talia’s POV I stood in front of the mirror, staring at my reflection. “Is it like a wedding?”Nicole sighed, rolling his eyes for what had to be the hundredth time that day. “No, Talia.” He spun me around by the shoulders till I was facing him. “It’s a Luna coronation.”“I didn’t know that was a thing.” I whispered, playing with my dress. I felt an unusual stir of nerves.“It is. It’s ancient culture, not completely necessary but…” he trailed off. “It’s cute, I guess. Cassian had been planning one for you before…”Right.I straightened. But the nerves in my stomach didn’t die down.“You’re going to be alright,” Nicole reassured softly. “The pack loves you, you’re their hero.”I scoffed.“I don’t need their love.”Not after they abandoned me and turned their backs to me when I needed them the most.“You’ll grow to love them.”“I won’t.”He opened his mouth to argue when the door pushed open. Katherine’s head popped in. “It’s time.”I nodded. I looked at Nicole one last time.“W
Cassian’s POV“So Mason, huh?”Nicole’s head snapped up, uncertainty flickering across his face.“Yeah,” he mumbled almost sheepishly. “I know he’s your nemesis and all, but—”I crossed my arms, leaning against the kitchen wall.Talia was still asleep—after I’d thoroughly worn her out last night—so I’d taken the opportunity to talk to Nicole. My best friend.“It doesn’t matter what he is to me,” I shrugged. “What matters is what he is to you.”His eyes widened slightly.“Does he make you happy?”Silence stretched between us.Nicole’s expression shifted slowly—surprise, longing, relief, happiness. Then finally—Something softer.Something almost sad.My chest tightened painfully.“Yeah,” he whispered. “He does.”I nodded once, an unfamiliar ache settling in my chest. We both knew what that meant.I wanted to argue. Wanted to convince him not to leave.Wanted to selfishly ask him to stay. But I couldn’t.Not when the heaviness that had haunted him for months was finally gone. Not when h
Talia’s POV“How long was I out?” I asked Cassian as I pulled my clothes on.After another day hidden away in the woods, wrapped in each other, he had mindlinked someone to bring us clothes. He shrugged lazily from where he leaned against the tree, his arms coming around my waist the second I stepped close enough.“Two days?” He mumbled, pressing a slow kiss to my lips.I opened my mouth to respond, but he took the opportunity to deepen the kiss, his tongue slipping into my mouth like he couldn’t help himself.A soft sound escaped me before I could stop it.I kissed him back instinctively, my hands flattening against his chest.I didn’t know whether to push him away or pull him impossibly closer. His hand tangled in my hair as the heat between us thickened.I moaned quietly, feeling warmth pool low in my stomach. My wolf stirred hungrily.“Cass,” I breathed against his mouth. “We have to stop.”He stepped forward anyway, crowding into my space until my back hit the rough bark of the t
Talia’s POVThe stretch was exquisite—almost too much, yet exactly what I needed. We both cried out, the bond singing between us as he filled me completely. For a second we stayed like that, joined as deeply as two beings could be, trembling with the intensity of it.Then he started moving. It was slow at first, giving me a moment to get used to the fullness again. After so long without him, my body had almost forgotten what it was like to be filled up. But the slow pace wasn’t enough for me. My wolf clawed harder. “Cass,’ I gasped, “more.”That one word was all it took. I could see the moment his restraint snapped, and he pulled out, almost completely. Then plunged in.Hard. Deep.A scream tore out of my throat, my hands coming up to his back, my nails digging into his skin. His pace was relentless. Each thrust slammed into me with the force of a man who had almost lost everything. I wrapped my legs around his waist, my heels digging into his back, urging him deeper. My nai
Talia’s POV I didn’t know how long we remained in that position. And I didn’t care to know. I was with my mate. His arms wrapped tightly around me, grounding me in reality. The warmth radiating off him seeped into my bones. His scent was stronger now, drowning out the scent of the forest around us. And the feel of his skin against mine— Goddess. It was different. Stronger. More intense. Like the bond had rooted itself deeper beneath my skin. My breath caught in my throat. “Are you okay?” he murmured softly. “You almost died.” I pulled back slightly, just enough to look at him. His warm eyes were already on me. Filled with concern. Fear. Relief. He frowned slightly. “Your eyes,” he whispered. “They’re green again.” Oh. Something settled heavily in my chest. Something dangerously close to disappointment. His gaze slowly drifted downward, settling on my sternum where the Goddess’ mark had once rested. His fingers brushed over the spot gently. “It’s gone too.” I
Talia's POVI froze, bracing myself for the impact. His heavy body hit me, slamming me to the ground. But not with claws. With weight. Pinning me to the ground. My heart hammered in my chest, my wolf fighting, clawing to take over. He snarled, his face mere inches from mine. That familiar spa
Nicole's POVWe fought.Or at least, we tried to.But there were too many of them.Serena's goons closed in from every angle, disciplined, coordinated. We landed a few solid hits—enough to draw blood, enough to make it hurt—but it didn't matter. Numbers won.A fist caught my ribs.Someone drove a s
Nicole's POV"Alpha Mason," Serena greeted, her eyes darkening. "Welcome to the party.""Order your subordinates to back off," Mason growled, his eyes flashing between yellow and brown.Serena tilted her head, studying him with that calculating look. "And if I refuse?" She tested. Mason didn't bl
Nicole’s POV The door swung open, and a strange girl stepped inside. My wolf growled low in my chest—alert, uneasy. Something about her aura was wrong. It brushed against mine in a way that made my skin prickle, disturbingly familiar. Almost like Magnus’s. Only this time, there was a scent. He
