Chapter Four: Alliance

Chapter Four

Ares Pov

“How did she managed to escape into the night without any one of you knowing?” I spat glaring at the men in my office.

“We didn’t he-“ Ayesha sent him a pointed glare that had him shut up.

“It shows your incompetence and for this reason you’ll be working double time.” Ayesha said firmly pacing around the room with her hands tucked behind her back.

“You’re all dismissed.” I waved them off tapping my feet as they closed the doors.

“You should be resting Alpha Ares, you were injured.” Ayesha said calmly folding her hands across her chest. “You were injured last night.” She added.

“What about the girl? How is she?” I asked stopping by the window side as I inspected the training outside.

“I haven’t checked on her but Atlas said he would stop by to see how she was doing.” My brow ticked at the mention of my twin brother, Atlas.

“And you let him?” I questioned turning to her.

“You know Atlas, he doesn’t take no for an answer.” She replied. She was right, Atlas wasn’t the one who take no for an answer neither was I.

“You should let him-“ she suggested looking at the ground, her hair following her movements. “He might be able to convince her to stay.”

I sighed moving back to the chair behind the desk, my brother Atlas could get anyone to open up to him and it was envious.

“fine, we let him talk to her.” I answered.

‘Also we have news on that day, Laila’s parent seemed to want to tell her about her true identity when she got home that day, I found the note and a neckpiece which is a two in one, only that we cant find the second piece.” Ayesha answered.

“You think she has the second piece?” I inquired leaning on my elbow.

“Yes, she was wearing it back then, I think she still has it on.” She replied. “I can go check on her to see if she still had it.”

“What else did you find? What else did they find in the note?”

“That’s where the bad news comes in, its just one of the twelve pieces, it looked like the rest had been torn out of the book,” a frown formed on my face, there was an entire book?

“How did you know it was twelve?”

“the case of the books was found and from the rings it vould be deduced that they were twelve pieces available. Someone knew they were coming and made sure to get rid of it,”

“Find out who and why.” I commanded and she nodded. I wondered why someone else would want those notes, they were meant for the those of the werewolf clan, it had the secrets on the power of the white wolf and how to harness them. Morgana couldn’t have stolen it, if she did she would’ve taken every part of the note. Someone was a step ahead of us and It bothered me a lot. Who could be looking for the white wolf and why?

Laila POV

“You don’t mean that, I swear that has to be a silly joke.” I chuckled as I held my stomach in laughter.

“I kid you not, my hands got stuck for the rest of the day and it was horrible.” Atlas completed his story. “But I am glad that the younger me got to do stupid shit, now I have so much responsibility that I can barely have fun.” He leaned back in his chair and rubbed his chin.

“Its still hard to believe that you and Ares are brothers, I mean apart from the fact that you two look so much alike.” I stated licking my buttom lips and played with my fingers.

“Yeah, I hear that a lot, in as much as I love my brother I’m glad that I’m the one who compliments his really uptight nature. I mean, he’s not a bad guy just majorly misunderstood.” I rolled my eyes at Atlas statement.

“A major asshole you mean.” I corrected and he chuckled. “Why was he in my apartment that night? How- why was he looking for me?”

“He told you Lai,”

“No- I want to hear it from you.” Atlas sighed and moved closer and so did i.

“I’m not meant to tell you this, but we were instructed not to let you fall in the hands of Morgana, you know, the evil chick who wanted to take you.” My brows furrowed and my mind followed through his explanation. “We don’t totally understand why us but we were to come get you during your 18th birthday.”

“Wait- what if- what if my parents had been alive? Would you guys still have taken me away?” I asked with a small frown.

“Yes, your adoptive parents understood that during your 18th birthday you would start manifesting in your true nature which include transformation. Laila, they would have to hand you over to us.”

This couldn’t be ture. They wouldn’t do that to me, they wont just give me off to strangers. They wouldn’t do that, no.

“No- you’re lying.” I stood up from the bed and paced around the room with my teeth biting my fingers.

“Laila, listen to me, I know your parents loved you so much but they were trying to avoid two things. They were afraid you would transform and cause havoc-“ i halted and turned to him, my eyes bored into his.

“You mean they think I would go on a ramoage and kill them-“

“That’s not it, don’t interpret it like that.” He tried to calm me down but my throat was already getting clogged up. “If other people were to find a white werewolf they wouldn’t hesitate to call animal service and if you’re not so lucky, hunters.”

Hunters?

“Your parents only wanted what was best for you, they didn’t mean any harm.”

“Yet look at where they ended up instead, dead.” I muttered swallowing the lump in my throat.

“I used to think I had the perfect life and everything I could ever want,” I sat at the base of the bed and closed my eyes. “In the past seventy two hours, life has shown me that I really cant have everything.

“Laila- hey, that’s not true.” Atlas was in front of me squatted to my height, I cleaned my eyes and stared at his deep green eyes which reminded me of the forest.

“We can have everything we want if we truly desire it and see past the tubule that life brings, don’t forget that.” He squeezed my hands gently.

“I’ll sure miss them.”

“I know you will.”

…………………………………………………………………………………..

Its been a week since my life tragic incident, its been a week since I was locked up in this room and a week since I met Ares and Atlas, and lest not forget, the unlikable Ayesha.

“Hey you.” Atlas said as he walked inside the room with a plate of food in his hands. I was curled up on the chair next to the window as I watched the outside world from this haven.

I tucked my hands under my chin and turned to him, his hair was slightly damp and his chest heaved underneath the grey muscle tee he wore.

“Hey-“ I replied making no move to get up from the chair.

“I brought you something to eat.” He mentioned placing the plate on the desk, I spared it a quick glance at the food but turned my attention some place else.

“I had something earlier, Ayesha brought me something to eat earlier.” I lied through my teeth, she brought me something but I didn’t make any effort to eat but Atlas didn’t need to know that. I didn’t need him to baby sit me.

“Yeah, I know that-“he eyed me slowly, making an effort to reveal my true nature. “but I also know that you didn’t touch it, Laila you haven’t eaten anything since last evening.”

“You can’t assume that I didn’t eat, you have no proof.”

“I’m a were wolf Lai, I have a keen sense of smell. I know when a plate of food has been tucked under the bed.” My surprise was subtle and my lips thinned as I chewed on my buttom lips. He sighed and walked towards the large bed; did he think he would reach the plate? I pushed it far back he wouldn’t be able to reach it. And, and before you say that its not hygienic, a plate of spoiled food isn’t my deepest concern right now.

“You don-“ the bed squeaked as he lifted it off the ground. My mouth dropped open as I watch him raise the bed so effortlessly. He turned to me with a small smile.

“Now, that’s not where the food should go. It should be in your body and not under the bed. Come pick it up.” He said politely, defeated I pushed myself off the chair towards the plate lying in the middle of the open space. I picked it up and examined it sides, it still smelled good but there was no way I was going to eat it.

Atlas dropped the bed down and turned to me, he raked his hands though his hair.

“Please, if you do eat we can step out the gardens in the area, you’ll love what we have there.” He suggested, I eyed the food he brought again.

“I don’t want to eat.” I said.

“But you need to.” my eyes blurred with tears and my throat clogged, I was unstable and I wasn’t over what happened. If nothing terrible had happened I would’ve been back home, in my room sketching some outfit while dad watched tv and mum prepared for her bookclub meetings.

“Hey-“ Atlas stood in front of me, his hands clasped around my upper arms and his eyes filled with concern held me. “I know you’re in a very bad place and I understand that nothing should matter to you but think about what they would want.” My sob broke out and a drop escaped my eye. Atlas pulled me into him and held me against his chest, it was weird being comforted like this but it worked magic.

His large hands rubbed my back in slow motions while I soaked his shirt with my tears.

“They would want you to be strong and healthy, they wouldn’t want you to beat yourself up like this. They’ll want you to live for them and for you, if you want to avenge them Laila, you’ll have to be at your strongest. You’ll have to do everything you can to survive and that includes eating when you’re supposed to.” he replied softly.

I remained in his hold for a while, thinking on all the words he said to me. He was right, if I was going to avenge them I’ll need to be in good health to fight that woman, Morgana.

“What in the world is ongoing here?” Ares loud voice broke us apart in a single second.
