Five

"Mum! What happened?" She immediately rushed to the back of the bed, skipping over either broken glass pieces or smashed furniture.

Her mother was crying, bruised all over. Seeing all her injuries jabbed stabs of pain in her heart and she bent down to her height—as she was sprawled on the floor—and she began to examine her mother's injuries.

They were cuts, slashes and scratches. From what she could see, these were injuries that can only be inflicted by someone who has claws, or an animal.

How was an animal able to break into our home?

"I was attacked! Some men broke into the house just after your father went to work and I thought they were just regular burglars, but then they turned into large wolves!" Her mother narrated and she gasped again.

She was attacked by werewolves! Just like Kyra was yesterday, if not for the brother's intervention she would've died.

Kyra decided to withhold the fact that she was attacked by wolves from her mother and focus on the present issue at hand.

"What would make werewolves attack us?" She thought out loud and immediately clasped her mouth shut when she realized what she had said. She mistakenly gave out the fact that she was attacked as well.

Her mother stared at her with concern and at the same time, was scanning her body for injuries.

"Were you attacked as well, Kyra? Is that why you couldn't come back home?" She questioned.

Despite the injuries on her hands, she still ran them over her daughter's body as she examined whether she got injuries as well.

Kyra carefully removed her hands from her body. "Mum I'm fine and yes, I was attacked. But it wasn't anything serious and I'm fine now, you don't have to worry." She quickly dismissed her and the matter entirely.

If she says too much, she might accidentally reveal to her the party at the Romano house, how they saved her, and the fact that she's their mate.

One step at a time, she'll deal with that one later.

"Are you sure baby?" Her mother questioned and she nodded in affirmation.

"I should be more worried about you, they really attacked you badly. Did you get any bad or serious injuries?" Kyra questioned just in case, although so far she couldn't see anything serious. Only scratches and cuts.

She shook her head in naught, "No actually, it's just a little bit of bruises. I'm fairly okay. But the house is not, they destroyed everything!" Her mother said and she looked around the room again, noting the great damage they had done.

"Have you called, Dad?" Kyra inquired.

"No. When they broke into the house and I thought they were regular burglars, I wanted to dial the cops but that's when they turned into the wolves and they smashed the phone." Her mother explained and Kyra heaved a deep sigh.

Today has just been a bowl of immense surprise. Kyra hasn't even recovered from all that happened at the Romano mansion and the whole mate issue, and now there's this? Her mother was attacked and their house torn apart.

Come to think of it, are the wolves who attacked her mother and the one that attacked her working together? Was this a plan made by them?

Everything was just so confusing.

Kyra made a mental note to ask the Romano brothers when she sees them at school. They're werewolves, alpha princes for that matter so they would understand what's going on.

"Alright mum. You need to rest okay." Kyra said to her and helped her up, her legs had so many cuts on them. "I will call dad right now and try my best to clean up the house as much as I can." She said to her and her mother nodded. Kyra held her, guarding her steps and then they walked out of the bedroom

Tomorrow, she will speak to the Romano brothers.

"What? You returned back home to see that your mother was attacked? The whole house was raided too?" Jax surprisedly asked and Kyra nodded in affirmation. Jace and Jack were also completely shocked.

"How do you know that the attackers were wolves?" Jace questioned.

"I saw claw scratches on my mother's body and I know she won't lie to me, she told me that they were wolves. This is the first time something like this is ever happening in our neighborhood and I'm scared." She expressed and sighed deeply.

"Why don't you and your parents come stay at our pack house for the meantime, until things are sorted out?" Jack offered and Kyra was convinced she was hearing things.

They were inviting her to stay at their pack house? Humans for that matter?

Kyra expected Jax and Jace to disagree with their younger brother and scold him for his impulsive offer but she was surprised to see that they conceded with it and were aboard.

"Yes Kyra, you can come stay at the pack house. It's safe and secure. You and your family would have nothing to worry about." Jax added.

A pack house full of wolves? Kyra was literally running away from wolves, why would she stay where there were going to be so many of them around? Besides, Kyra also wanted to avoid the Romano brothers because of the whole mate thing. She's only talking to them now because she thought they'd have answers for me.

"I'm sorry, I'll have to decline. Please excuse me." Kyra said to them and bowed then walked away from them and headed into the nearest bathroom and finally let out a pent-up breath.

Just as she thought she was away from looming trouble, she wasn't aware there was one waiting for her in the bathroom.

"I told you I was going to teach you a lesson, Kyra!" Kyra heard Lily's voice and she immediately turned around to see her and her two friends looking at her menacingly, with a knife in Lily’s hand.
