Luca's Pov

“You hurt me, Samantha. We had an argument, and you left me for… him,” I said, barely hearing my own voice. I was hurting from seeing her with him, but what was worse was her betrayal.

“I know…” she said.

“Do you want to know what I thought?” I looked back at her and wiped my tear-stained cheeks. It was ironic, because I had never cried for anyone before—not even for a woman. I had never felt this broken and utterly useless.

There was this need to make her want me, this need to fill the hole in her chest just as she filled mine. But I wasn’t enough for her; she didn’t see me that way.

“Don’t come any closer,” I warned when she took another step.
