Ivy's POV
As soon as I hung up, I squealed into my pillow. I'd just asked a strange guy to be my prom date, and he agreed.
Was this really happening?
He was so nice, and his voice…I fanned my face as it got hotter. It was low, sexy, with a timbre that sent a shiver down my spine. That helpline must get a lot of calls.
That voice has to belong to someone equally visually captivating. But why would an attractive man agree to go to prom with a random girl?
Taking my phone, I made a video call to my best friend, Zoe. I couldn't wait to share the exciting news. She would think I'm crazy, but at this point, I didn't care. I was just happy to have a date for prom.
“Hey, Ivy. What's up?”
“You won't believe what just happened,” I told her excitedly.
Zoe raised her brows. “Spill.”
“So, I've been having a hard time finding a prom date–”
“You?” she cut me off incredulously. “Are the boys at that school blind?”
“Clearly,” I agreed quickly, eager to get to the point. “But it doesn't matter anymore.”
“Are you going to miss the prom?” she asked.
“No. I found someone to go with me. I called a helpline to vent, and guess what. The guy agreed to be my date.”
“What? A stranger? Are you crazy?”
“He was nice!”
“Do you even know his name?”
“Sean Harris!”
Zoe's brows pulled together. “Did you say Sean Harris?”
“Yes.”
“The Sean Harris?” she emphasised.
“What do you mean? Do you know him?”
“There's a popular guy from my campus with that same name. If he is the one you talked to, girl…I'd say you are playing with fire. Women worship the ground he walks on, and he soaks up the attention like sunshine. Rumour has it that he has a different girl in his bed every night.”
I chuckle. “That must be an exaggeration.”
“If you saw him, you'd see it's quite possible,” Zoe insisted. “He’s just…I can't explain it to you. Trust me, you don't know a celebrity who is hotter than him.”
“I'm sure my Sean is not that Sean,” I told her. “Why would such a guy accept a date from a random girl?”
“He could be bored and looking for his next plaything,” Zoe deduced. “Let me send you a pic.”
Moments later, the photo arrived. My eyes widened as I looked at the man in the photo. I swallowed and nodded. “Okay, you are right. Who wouldn't want to jump that?”
“Told you. He is a serious player.”
“Well, it can't be him,” I told her. “First of all, like I said, there's no reason for a guy who looks like that to accept a strange girl's proposal. Second, I'm not that lucky.”
“Let's hope so,” Zoe said.
I stared at the guy in the photo a bit more. He was ridiculously good looking. Zoe was right, I could not think of a celebrity who was this good looking.
I was sure he could not be my Sean Harris, but…just saying, his face would totally match the voice over the phone.
And such a combination? I couldn't even begin to imagine how lethal it would be in real life.
“I just hope he won't stand me up,” I told her. I was excited, but I was aware that he could fail to show up.
He had insisted on accompanying me, but I wouldn't blame him if he changed his mind.
Zoe clapped her hands together. “Now that you've found yourself a date, I'll be in charge of your makeover. I'll turn you into a princess and make those meanies at your school eat dirt.”
“I already have a dress,” I said, getting out of bed and heading to my closet. “I found it a few months ago and held on to it. Let me show you.”
I opened my closet and removed the dress. It was a red sleeveless mermaid gown embellished with rhinestones.
“Wow, that's perfect,” Zoe said, giving me a thumbs up. “Once I do your makeup and hair, they won't know what hit them.”
***
The next day, Zoe came to my house and did my makeup and hair as promised.
Sean had not retracted his offer. In fact, he called me in the morning to confirm our date. After hearing his voice again, I'd been thinking about him all day, imagining what he'd look like in person.
Once Zoe was done with my makeup and hair, I showed her the scarf I had knitted overnight. “I made this for my date. Do you think it's fine?”
Zoe took the scarf and examined it. “This is so beautiful. It must have taken a while to make.”
“Yes, but it's worth it. He's saving my ass, so I wanted to give him a gift in gratitude.”
Zoe wiggled her brow at me. “I'm saving your ass too, what will I get?”
I grinned at her. “What do you want?”

My mother dropped me at the prom venue and wished me luck, demanding to see photos of my prom date once I got home.
I stood outside the venue, waiting and watching my schoolmates arrive. Everyone was dressed to the nines and in a happy mood.
While I waited for Sean to show up, I attracted a lot of attention. I caught a few of the words as people went by.
“Hold on, who's that?”
“Does she go to our school?”
“I’ve never seen her before.”
“Are you blind? That's the new girl in senior year.”
“What new girl…Ivy?”
“Oh my god, it's really her!”
“Wow, look at that dress. Where did she get it? It looks designer.”
“Didn't people say she is a poor small-town girl? She doesn't look like one right now.”
“Let's take a picture with her.”
“Uh…but we don't really know her.”
“Who cares? Come on! I want to know where she got her dress.”
The two girls approached me, smiling at me. “Hello, Ivy. You are so gorgeous. Where did you get your dress?”
“I found it online.”
“Really? What's the name of the shop? I have to check it out!”
Before I knew it, I was involved in a conversation with five different girls who had never spoken to me before. Some wanted to know about my dress, others about my hair and makeup. It was the first time any of them had started a conversation with me or regarded me with anything besides contempt.
Even though Sean hadn't shown up yet, I started feeling relaxed. See? It was a good idea to show up despite everything. Maybe after this, I could make a few friends.
“What on earth is going on here?” Demi’s annoyed voice broke through the circle.
As if they had been caught red-handed doing something wrong, the girls all backed away from me.
Demi walked forward, backed by her clique of girls who always followed her everywhere like she was the centre of their world.
“What are you doing here?” she asked, looking me up and down, her lips twisted in a sneer.
“I'm here for the prom, what else?” I asked.
“Only couples are allowed inside,” she told me. “And you don't have a date.”
“What is she wearing?” Casey, her main minion, asked. “This looks like something from a thrift store.”
The second minion, Annie, reached forward and tugged on the dress. “I know, right? It's so tacky.”
I pushed her hand and stepped back. “What do you want?” I asked Demi.
“For you to leave,” she said. “We put a lot into this prom. The last thing we need is some has-been ruining it.”
“What is this?” Casey asked, grabbing the gift in my hand. Annie blocked me when I tried to get it. Within a few seconds, Casey tore the gift wrapping and opened the box.
Suddenly, she started laughing. “Oh my god! What are you, an old lady?” She lifted the scarf and showed everyone. “Is this supposed to be a gift for your date?”
“Give it back,” I demanded.
“It could be a bribe to some poor boy to take her to prom,” Stacy, the third minion, said. “As expected of small-town trash.”
“Who would accept this?” Demi asked. “This is the ugliest scarf I've ever seen.”
Casey held it out to me. “Here.”
I reached for it, but she laughed and threw it at Annie. Annie threw it to Stacy. Meanwhile, Demi produced a lighter from her purse.
Seeing her intention, I rushed to stop her, but Casey pushed me back. I barely caught my balance to keep from falling. By the time I recovered, Demi had set the scarf on fire.
Ivy’s POVAnger brewed in me as I watched the scarf I'd knitted burning on the ground. I hadn’t slept all night while making it for my date, but now it was ruined.“Why did you do that?” I demanded, glaring at Demi. “I made that for my date.”“Date?” she scoffed. “Who would be foolish enough to be your partner? Is he brave enough to go against me?”“Not everyone is afraid of you,” I told her. “I wouldn't want to go with any of those cowards who tuck their tails between their legs in front of you.”“Is that so? Who is your brave knight? Huh? Who is it who agreed to be the dance partner to a country bumpkin like you?”“I’m curious too,” Casey said. “You must have lied about your identity. Anyone who knows you knows better.”“She must have hired some dude from outside school,” Stacy said.“You are right,” Annie agreed.“If that's so, I hate to break it to you, but outsiders are not allowed to our prom,” Demi said.“You are lying,” I called her out. “I've seen many students enter the ball
Sean’s POVI was pleasantly surprised to find out that Ivy’s voice was not only sexy, but she was hot too. But her pretty face and sexy body was not what floored me.She was my fated mate.As I got closer to the prom venue, I could feel a strong attraction. When I got out of my car, all my senses focused on her, singling her out as the source of the attraction.I wanted her all to myself, but I could not just take her away. She did not seem to recognise me as her mate, so I could not rush things. I had promised to be her prom date. So, before I broke the big news to her, I’d give her the best prom date ever. There was one problem, though. A noisy bitch had waylaid us and was talking nonsense about my mate. I recognised her. She was the insufferable daughter of Twilight Pack’s Beta.“Who the fuck are you?” I growled, pretending to not know her. She liked to be the centre of attention, so let’s take her down a notch. She blinked and gaped for a moment before quickly collecting herself.
Ivy’s POVI’d never been so turned on before in my life. My pants were soaked between my legs, and I would be embarrassed if I hadn’t felt Sean’s erection on the dancefloor. We walked into the elevator in Sean’s hotel. He pressed the button for the Penthouse Suite. Powerful, gorgeous, and filthy rich. A part of me was still waiting to wake up from a dream.Once the elevator started moving, he turned to me. I felt like prey beneath his blue-grey eyes. It was like they saw into and through me, as if they could see every little thought in my head. And right then, there was not a single innocent thought in my head. All I could think of was what an amazing body must be beneath his suit. Wide shoulders, washboard abs, strong thighs…I gasped silently when Sean suddenly took hold of my chin and lifted my face. He stepped closer, and I stepped back instinctively. I ended up against the back of the elevator, crowded by his body. Was it hot in here or was it just me?He lowered his head, bringi
Ivy's POVA few days after the prom, my mother woke me up at the crack of dawn.“Get up,” she said, throwing my curtains open. Sunlight spilled in. Okay, so maybe it wasn’t the crack of dawn. Regardless, she had woken me up from a very sweet dream featuring Sean, and I did not appreciate that.“We need to get moving,” she said, pulling away my comforter. “Finish packing your stuff.”That’s right, it was moving day. My mother had eloped with her mysterious new husband, and now, we were moving to live with him. Moving again was not my favourite thing at the moment, having done it again recently. My mother sat down on my bed and took my hands. “I’m so sorry to be uprooting you so soon again. I know it’s going to be a new environment, but I promise you’ll love it. Ken’s a really nice man.”I squeezed her hand and smiled at her. “Don’t worry about me. As long as he is good to you, I’ll be fine.”“Of course, there’s your new step brother too,” she reminded me. “I hope you two can get along
Sean’s POVI pulled up to our house to the sight of a brunette carrying a box from an unfamiliar car parked in our driveway. I gritted my teeth as I watched her walk into the house like it belonged to her.My father’s new wife was here. Her daughter must be here too. As if marrying a gold digger was not enough, my father just had to go and find one with another leech attached. And now, he expected me to accept them as my family, and treat one as my mother and the other as my sister. He must be crazy. I only showed up because he threatened to cut off my money if I acted out. But there was no way in hell was I going to accept the two intruders as my family. If I had anything to do with it, they’d be gone from our lives as soon as possible.I left my car and walked into the house. The woman was in the living room, looking through a few boxes. When I walked in, she saw me and rose, approaching.“You must be Sean, right?” she asked, smiling big at me. She looked younger than I’d imagined.
Ivy’s POVBy the time we finished unpacking our stuff, it was time for dinner. Not that I noticed the time going by. I was too busy avoiding Sean and trying to come to terms with my new situation.Never in a thousand years would I have thought that my mate would turn out to be my new step brother. Seriously, what were the chances? Only I would be so unlucky. Finding him had seemed like a miracle at first, but now, it seemed more like a disaster. We ordered takeout for dinner and sat together for dinner, as a family. My mother and I sat on one side, while Sean and his father sat on the other. Much to my discomfort, Sean was sitting directly opposite me. The food we’d ordered was delicious, but my appetite had disappeared. Too bad I couldn’t excuse myself out of this meal, being our first meal together as a family. I wasn’t going to ruin things for my mother from the get-go.“Sean, I did not tell you about how I met Janet,” Ken began as soon as we all had our food and began eating.“Yea
Ivy’s POV“Ivy, do you have any plans for tonight?” my mother asked me. Everybody turned their attention to me, anticipating my answer.Well, sorry to disappoint… “There’s a book I started a few days ago that I haven’t had time to sit down and finish. I’ll be reading that.”My mother was clearly not impressed by my plans. Sean wasn’t either, as he loudly commented, “Bookworm.”I ignored him and kept on eating.“Come on, dear,” my mother told me. “It’s summer, you should have fun. You read a lot, maybe you should take a break and go outside. You can’t spend all summer cooped up in your room with a book.”I very much could…“Reading is fun for me,” I told her.“Other things can be fun too,” she insisted. “If you tried going outside, you would realise that. Also, you won’t make any friends if you stay indoors all the time, will you?”She was wrong. I made many friends…okay, fictional friends, but whatever. They were much better than the people I had to deal with outside. Compared to my r
Ivy’s POV‘Your friend Catherine?’Zoe’s words about Sean’s reputation jumped to the front of my mind. Whoever this Catherine was, she was definitely not just a friend to him.I could not help the jealousy that awakened inside me. She must be very close to him if she came to look for him at his house.“I better go see about that,” he said.“Yeah, go,” I said, holding the door open for him. I can’t believe I forgot what kind of guy he was. Did I think his playboy ways would vanish just because he met me? He came towards me and reached for me, but I stepped back. “You should go, Sean.”He hesitated for a few more seconds before leaving my room and heading downstairs. Before I closed my door, I heard his voice.“Hey, Cate.”A feminine laugh that did not belong to my mother floated upstairs. Seconds later, the front door closed as they left together. The sound of Sean’s obnoxiously loud sports car pulling out of the driveway reached my ears.I shut my door and stomped to my bed. Well, it
Ivy’s POVSean kissed me hard, his hand at the back of my neck keeping me in place as his lips ravaged mine. His body pressed onto mine, pinning me to the seat.He used his other hand to capture mine on my lap, making it impossible to push him away. It was a punishing kiss that left my lips feeling raw. When he pulled back, I was fighting for my breath. We stared at each other for a few moments, neither of us saying anything as we sucked in much-needed oxygen. Finally, I was able to make words. “Sean…what the hell–”“Stay away from Ezra,” he ordered me.I paused to take a few more breaths and let his words sink in. “What?”“I don’t know what you think you’re doing, but I want you to stay away from him,” he said. “I hate him.”“What?” I repeated, feeling confused. He hated him? I hadn’t sensed any animosity between them,
Ivy’s POVEzra was Sean’s cousin. I wasn’t sure how I felt about that coincidence. I mean…I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t been a tiny bit disappointed when Sean showed up at the gym earlier.I know that makes me sound shitty but I really wanted to reconnect with Ezra, and I felt like Sean would get in the way of that.Since we left campus and headed to the restaurant, my stomach filled with butterflies every time I looked at Ezra. It was the kind of feeling I got when I was around someone I had a crush on. It could be memories from the past flooding my brain, but it felt like more.I hadn’t felt like that around anyone in a long while. Sure, I was attracted to Sean. But with Sean, it was the mate bond between us that drove my emotions crazy. With Ezra, that wasn’t the case. There was no bond between us, and yet it felt like I couldn’t take my eyes off him. I wanted to talk to him through the ev
Sean’s POV“Here, like this. Keep your shoulders straight…yeah, like that. And always remember to keep your core stable…that’s very important.”I groaned and scoffed. When I showed up to pick Ivy up after her last class of the day, I hadn’t expected to find her getting a one-on-one training session with my cousin.I had to stop myself from stepping in and stopping them multiple times. That bastard was using all kinds of excuses to be close to her. Like now. He was placing his hands on her waist, pretending to be correcting her posture. If it’d been anyone else, I would have ripped their hands from her a long time ago. But this was Ezra, my cousin who I’d always admired. He wasn’t just some sleazy bastard using excuses to cop a feel…right? The more I looked at the two of them, the more he looked like a sleazy bastard. He needed to back off from my mate by at least ten feet. But I couldn’t just jump between them, could I? Not only was my cousin Ivy’s trainer, but apparently, they were o
Ivy’s POVEach pair of students sparred in turn while the rest of us watched and Ezra evaluated their performance. I was nervous about my turn. I didn’t think I was extraordinarily bad, but my partner was the trainer, so I would probably look worse than I truly was. Finally, it was our turn and we took our positions facing each other.“Ready?” Ezra asked me.The rest of the class was watching more attentively than before. I’m sure they were all eager to see what the wolfless half-human was capable of.“Yeah,” I said, raising my hands up to my face.Even though Ezra was taller and stronger than me, I wasn’t scared. I knew he wouldn’t hurt me. But I also didn’t think he would go easy on me. Which was fine, because I didn’t want him to think that he had to go easy on me because I didn’t have a wolf. After all, this was a combat exercise in human form. In a real life situation, I wouldn’t be able to choose my opponent. I had to give it my all.Ezra threw the first punch, and I stepped bac
Ivy’s POVEzra walked into the class with an authoritative air around him. The class went as quiet as a graveyard as he made his way towards the group. When he stopped, his grey gaze swept over the class.“My name is Ezra Walker,” he introduced himself. “I’ll be your trainer for this class throughout the semester. I expect total cooperation and discipline from all of you. I don’t like slackers. If you’re not ready to put in a hundred percent effort, you might as well leave now.”He paused, as if giving any people with second thoughts a chance to walk out. When everybody remained still, he continued, “I also expect everyone to respect everyone in this room. In my class, the only thing that separates you from each other is your performance. I don’t care who you are or which pack you’re from. If you don’t play by my rules, I’ll strike you out immediately. Do I make myself clear?”Scattered replies came from the students. Demi, who had previously placed herself in front of the group, slow
Ivy’s POVBefore entering the dorm room the next morning, I stopped outside the door for a few moments. I knew Sam and Eve would definitely have questions about last night. Hopefully, they were not in the room and I could skip–or at least delay–the questioning.Taking a deep breath, I reached for the handle. The door was unlocked. They were inside. I hoped it would just be Becky inside, but as my luck would have it, I found Sam and Eve inside.“She finally returns,” Eve said as soon as I walked through the door.“Ooh,” Sam cooed, “I wonder where she disappeared to?”They looked at each other and wiggled their brows.“Nowhere,” I said, casually taking a seat at the table in the middle of the room. “I met an old friend and got distracted.”Eve hopped onto the table and raised her brow at me. “For the whole night?”I nodded. “Yeah. We had a lot to catch up on.”Eve gave me a smile and then said, “Drop it. We saw you leaving with Sean Harris.”What?“Me?” I asked, feigning confusion.“Don
Ivy’s POVI had to reject Sean. That was the only clear thought in my mind as I made my escape towards the restroom. I had tried and failed to move on from him. My feelings were too strong, and all it took was a small trigger to bring them back to the surface.Since they’d proven too much for me, rejecting him was the only way to end the connection between us. Once I rejected him, I would sever the bond between us. Maybe then, I could move on.Without the bond, I could be attracted to other guys and stop feeling like my world was ending whenever I saw him with another girl. Only then would I be able to look at him as who he was–my step brother and nothing more.It was the best thing I could do for everyone involved. I would be free from this uncontrollable need and unbearable pain. I would no longer jeopardise my mother’s marriage. Sean and I would finally be able to act like proper step siblings.I wiped away tears that spilled down my cheeks. Realising what I had to do hurt. It hurt
Sean’s POVAs soon as I saw Ivy, it was like a switch inside my body got flipped. I hadn’t been a fan of this outing, but suddenly, this was exactly where I wanted to be.My wolf stirred excitedly while my cock twitched in my pants. It was impossible to not crave her instantly when she looked like that. She was wearing a short backless dress that hugged her curves snuggly and left little to the imagination. If I got my hands on her, that dress would be gone in a flash. The problem was that I was not the only one noticing just how sexy she looked. I caught sight of several males whose eyes were stuck on her like glue, the only thing missing was drool down their chins. I had the urge to drag her away and bring her somewhere only I could look at her.‘What are you waiting for?’ Dax growled. ‘Claim her!’I almost jumped forward to do just that. But then, I remembered that she had chosen another male over me. She wanted nothing to do with me. She was likely here to meet her boyfriend.“The
Ivy’s POVI looked away, sucking in a breath. I was trying to act normal, but inside, I was going nuts. My heart was racing like crazy while my mind went blank. Why was he here? I had not thought for a second that he would show up here.“Holy shit, Sean Harris is here,” a girl on the table next to ours shrieked. “Oh my god.”“I swear he gets hotter everyday,” another one said. “Look at him…why is he so handsome?”“Who is that?” Eve asked, following everybody’s gaze.“That’s Sean Harris,” Sam supplied. “He is the famous Alpha that every girl on campus covets.”“Oh,” Eve said. “I totally see why.”All around us, more admirers sang his praises.“Shit, it’s Sean!”“He’s so hot!”One of the girls started fixing her dress to make her breasts look plumper. “I’ll definitely get him tonight,” she said.“Keep dreaming,” her friend told her. “You’ll be lucky if he so much as looks at you.”“What’s that supposed to mean?” the girl asked angrily.“Just saying,” the other girl said. “Don’t you reme
