Chapter 4

Alex POV

When I was listening to Evie's story, I got so angry, she didn’t even know what was happening. How could someone do this to their mate. I wish Evie were my mate. I would treat her like the queen she is supposed to be, or should I say Luna. How can someone deliberately hurt their own mate.

I felt like I was almost shifting because I was so angry. I wanted to choose Evie as my chosen mate, because I still hadn’t found mine and I felt comfortable with the idea of having her as my mate. But now, that's not even possible anymore. She's wearing his mark, Alpha Ashton of the Shadow pack. I heard the stories about him, he slept with almost every she-wolf in his pack. And apparently even after he found his mate. The pain she must have been trough and not even knowing why makes me and my wolf even more angry.

I needed to find a way to help Evie, I don't know how yet but maybe one of the elders know how to help her. When Evie was finished with her story my beta Dylan mind-linked me. Apparently, the famous Ashton was still waiting in my pack house. I knew that already; he had been there since we went to the hospital. I was not really in a hurry to get to him. He could wait for a few hours, for all I care.

I almost couldn't withhold my laughter when Evie and Kristin asked if she needed a tetanus vaccine. I mean sure I don't know what that idiot of a wolf carries, but I sure as hell hope he doesn't carry tetanus or even worse rabies. I didn't even know if that would be possible, for a werewolf to carry such diseases. I felt my wolf snickering in my head as well at the thought.

When I walked Evie back to her dorm, I begged her not to leave her room. I didn't know what exactly would happen to her, so I needed to figure that out first. But I also wanted to be there if something happens. On my way back to the pack house I tried to calm myself. I couldn't attack Ashton the moment I saw him and with the way I was feeling now, I didn't know if I could control myself.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I finally arrived at my pack house, after another half an hour I went to my office. I was a little calmer so I hoped I could control myself. I contacted Dylan to let him know he could bring Ashton in. A few minutes later I heard a knock on the door.

"Come in" I said. Dylan came in with who I assume was Ashton and he sat down. "You must be Alpha Ashton. My name is Alpha Alexander Ross of the Silver Moon Pack. Welcome to my territory, even though I don't remember allowing you to come" I said, I mean I have to stay nice right. Even though I just want to rip off his head for what he did to Evie. I excused Dylan and he left the room.

"Yes, but you must understand how it is. If you would have found your mate you would want to do anything you could right to have her?" He spoke. I felt my wolf coming to surface again and once again I had to control myself. Talking about his mate like this. Even mentioning my mate, who I've still not met, till this day.

"Of course, I mean if I had someone as lovely and beautiful as Evie as my mate, I would treat her like the queen she is" I responded. I just couldn't help myself and I'm not even sorry. The look on his face said it all. Ashton growled at my response and okay I get that too, he was definitely angry now.

"How do you know my mate" Ashton said with a growl. "She is mine!" I saw Ashtons eyes change color. He was definitely not happy now and trying to control his emotions to not force shift, but he knew I was an Alpha as well and he was on my territory. So, he had no choice but to keep himself calm. If he didn't want a war at his hands. He just became Alpha, not really a good first act as Alpha, to cause a war.

"She's just a good friend, one of the sweetest persons I know. Good Luna material too if you ask me. My Beta and Gamma would probably like her as well, I think my whole pack would like her if I would introduce her. I mean who couldn't like someone like her, I can't imagine someone hurting her, but then again. Here. You. Are." I said still trying to control my emotions. I felt my wolf surfacing.

Ashton looked ashamed to my statement. "It wasn't my intention to hurt her. I just wasn't ready for a mate. Any mate. I regret everything I did to her. I just want her to know how sorry I am. I also didn't mean to mark her in the parking lot. I just couldn't let her go, and I smelled another wolf on her. I couldn't control my wolf in the moment. He's been angry with me since the moment we met her. He was finally happy when she accepted us at first and then I screwed up again, when she discovered what I did. I haven't been able to shift in months. What Alpha can't shift." He looked like he was still hiding something. But I'll let it go for now.

I almost felt sorry for him. Almost. What he did was wrong, unheard of even. But I also kind of understand why he marked her. I don't know what I would have done if I smelled another wolf on my mate. Wolves are territorial and Alphas are even worse. Everyone knows that, so I get how he couldn't control his wolf.

"Okay" I said finally. Ashton looked confused.

"Okay? What is okay? Nothing is okay about this all." Well, he was right about that.

"I meant okay as in I'll help you. I care about Evie, a lot, and I'm not going to apologize for that. My wolf felt content with her, we were even considering having her as our chosen mate" Ashton growled at my response, but I continued anyways. "I get that she is yours, I don't want her to die. We all know what could happen if you don't complete the mating process. I would much rather have her alive, and sadly enough with you than have her die."

"Thank you" Ashton replied still not really sure of what is happening. "Thank you for being there for my mate when I couldn't. I know I don't deserve her, but I'm going to spend every day of the rest of my life, trying to make it up to her." I nodded not really knowing what else to say. He better makes it up to her, the sooner the better.

"Do you have a plan on how to help her? I'm scared, the next full moon is going to be in 3 weeks. So, I have 3 weeks to make it up to her and she can be quite stubborn." He continued. 3 weeks were not a lot of time.

"I asked her to stay in her dorm for now, not really knowing what will happen to her. I was thinking about taking her to the elders tomorrow. I think she needs to know what will happen to her before she can even begin to accept you." Ashton looked hurt at my statement but nodded.

"Okay, I'll leave my number for you to contact me. Me and my Beta Josh will stay here for a while if that is okay with you." It's not really ordinary for an Alpha to ask permission for something or to apologize. He must be really broken so I just nodded. If this doesn't go as planned, I could always just take over his pack because he's weak now.

"Okay" I said "I will let you know the day after tomorrow. Ashton stood up and held out his hand. I accepted and shook his hand.

"Thank you." With that he left the room.

I stayed in my office to think about what just happened. I'll just have to go to Evie tomorrow to see how she's doing and to visit the elders.

Well, what could go wrong...
