Mira’s pov

I entered into the dining as I saw the table has been set already. There were toast meet with steamed vegetables.

My mother was at the head of the table with my stepfather next to her. Jamie was in her seat already, smiling at nothing really while Kayden sat quietly across from her looking at his plate.

I took my seat as I usually did, dragging it back so I could sit down. No one said anything for a long moment and only the occasional clinking of cutlery off of plates could be heard as they reached for something or another on their plates. It felt uncomfortable like this. Burdened like everyone had something to say but no one knew where to start.

After a couple of minutes, my mother broke the silence.

“I had another meeting today,” she said in that still voice. “With the wolf women.”

“And how did it go this time?” My stepfather chuckled slightly and reached for his cup.

My mother sighed before cutting a piece of her meat. “They are not very happy. Some are afraid. Others be

Lucas’s povThe wind was gentle on my face as I rode slowly through the palace gardens. The sun was warm in the morning sky and everything smelled so clean of flowers and dewy grass. I looked across to my side… she was also riding beside me… her long hair swayed with the horse’s steps. She looked calm but I knew she wasn’t.I slowed my horse a little to get closer to her. She sensed it and smiled faintly.I turned my face towards her and asked, “What do you feel now your stepfather has gone. What has changed?”She laughed a little bit. It wasn’t really a laugh though, it was more like just air coming out of her lungs. “He was never technically my stepdad,” she said quietly. “But he was pretty close.”Her voice sounded steady but for some reason it made me feel like she wasn’t.“Do you… miss him?” I asked as I wondered what her answer would be.“How about we don’t talk about him?”I nodded. “Alright.” I paused, then smiled at her. “Let’s change the subject then.”“To what?”I chuckled

Lucas’s povI sat in the living room as I drank while watching the tv before me. As much as I was there physically, my mind wasn’t there.Soon I heard loud footsteps as I looked up to see my father showing up with a frown on his face.“I can’t believe it!” He yelled.I looked up. He was angry. His face was red. His fists were clenched.“What happened now?” I asked calmly. He pointed at me. “That Alpha Remy! He’s a fool! A big fool! How can he leave? How can he walk away from the pack now?”I blinked. “What do you mean? Leave how?”He sat down on the couch opposite mine. He was breathing hard. “He’s gone back to his own pack. That’s what he did! After all that planning. After all the talking. And now he just leaves Freya behind like that. What kind of leader does that?”I tried to relax him. “Dad, maybe it’s just temporary. Maybe he had to go handle something—”He cut me off. “No! Don’t you see? Don’t try to cover up this mess! This is a disgrace! A shame! He is supposed to be focused

Mira’s povI was in the arcade with Zane again. That place was so bright, and the games were so loud with kids running all over the place. It was really noisy in there but I didn't care. I liked anything that would make me forget about Kayden.Zane was playing on one of the shooting games. Her smile was evil as she focused on the fun she was having.‘I met a boy yesterday,’ she said, still staring at the screen.“Oh,” I smiled. That was quick. Was she supposed to have moved on so fast from Cameron?“He was tall. Cute too. And guess what? He said I have nice eyes.” she laughed it off.I smiled a little, but my heart wasn’t in it.Zane paused the game and turned to me. “Hey. You’re not listening.”“Yes, I am,” I said. But I wasn’t.“Mira, what the fuck? You’ve been acting weird since we got here.”I looked at her then quickly turned away, “It's nothing.” “Look,” she said again, this time softer. “Tell me what’s wrong?”“I mean… I don’t know.” I sighed. “Is this about Lucas?” She asked

Remy’s povI sank down into the chair in my study, the large one near the window. I rubbed my temples. My head was pounding again. Not from stress, no. From aggravation. There was just so much of it.My whole week had been full of meeting after meeting with pack-elders of Alpha Freya’s pack. And each one was worse than the last. I didn’t know how she did it—how she stayed here; ruled and still had any spunk left over.I shut the door. I could finally breathe. I stepped back and closed my eyes before thinking about the last elder meeting I’d been in earlier.“That’s not how we do things here, Alpha Remy.” The man had sneered.I thought about it. These people had no sense of morality. None of them had any sense of morality and it was looking barbaric. They were animals; they didn't talk or listen in polite matters, they couldn't be talked to or listened to at all.None of them would even understand that maybe things here worked on a daily basis in an orderly manner.I was deep in my tho

Freya’s povI sat down at the table, my partner Alpha Remy joining me. It had only been officially a week since we announced that we'd be running the pack together – just one short week, and I was exhausted. The dining room was quiet again. Empty except for us two. My daughters Jamie and Mira refused to join us once more. I didn't blame them. Tension had been building.I looked over at Remy. He was eating slowly, staring at his plate. I waited three seconds and said, “So? What’s do you think?”Remy took another bite of food, wiped his mouth with a napkin then glanced in my direction.“What do I think?“ he asked. “Yes. About the pack. About how we’re handling things. Do you think we should do something about it?”He inhaled deeply.“I think… your pack needs to change a lot,” he said, plain and cold.I paused, blinking. “What?”“It’s the truth.”“You can’t be serious.”“What did I say? My pack is doing pretty fine. They are disciplined. Civilized. Organized. Your pack is… not that.”I

Kayden’s povI dropped my bag on the floor and walked up to my room. It was the same as ever. The bed was made, the curtains half drawn and my sword still hanging over the fireplace.I wandered round it at a slow pace before letting out a long breath.“Finally home.” I said to myself.I had missed this place. I had missed everything here and I was so excited to be here.I hadn’t sat down before I heard a rap on the door. The door opened; my old butler shuffled in, bowing only a little."It's ok," I replied, waving my hand."hope your trip was ok?" he asked."It was... long." I answered and folded my arms on the bed. The butler entered, pretending to be careful, his gaze sweeping quickly the room.“Well, we cleaned everything like you asked before you got here. I hope it’s okay to your taste.”“It’s good enough,” I told himHe nodded.“Since most of the workers are with your father and I had to stay here with minimal workers I had to do most of the chores myself.”“You cared for the e
