Chapter 6

Chapter 6

It was loud, obnoxiously loud. The lights were all different colors flying across the room in their laser beam state and the crowd was over joyed with the ear numbing music.

Cheyenne had come to the club with her friend Melisa. Melisa was definitely a party goer and Cheyenne enjoyed a party every now and again.

They both were dancing and grinding against each other as best friends would to the beat of the music.

Later, they split off. Melisa went to get a drink and Cheyenne went to the bathroom. When she came out, she nearly ran into a tall drunken flirt.

“Hey there, sweet cheeks. You trying to come home with a real man tonight?” He slurred getting too close for comfort.

Cheyenne scrunched her face up at the stench of his alcohol breath and pushed him back.

“No thanks. I’ll pass.”

As she was about to walk away the guy grabbed her arm and tried to kiss her but she pushed his face away from her.

“Let me go!”

“Hey! Is there a problem over here?!” Another man boomed through the empty back hall.

The drunk man instantly let go causing Cheyenne to stumble back a bit.

“We’re just having a bit of fun.”

“I think you should go.” The man was now standing in front of her, as if protecting her.

The drunk man made a mocking face at the sober man and scoffed.

“You weren’t that cute, anyway, whore!” The drunken man slurred and stumbled away.

Both Cheyenne and the man stood there quietly and watched the man go back to the clubbing.

“I’m Oliver.” The guy said, out of nowhere.

A bit taken aback, Cheyenne looked at the guy and tilted her head, realizing what he said.

“Thank you, Oliver.” Cheyenne turned to the man next to her.

The man smirked down at her, not some cocky, heroic smirk but more of a sadistic kind that made Cheyenne’s blood run cold.

“No problem. I couldn’t just sit by and watch him harass you, sweetheart.” His smirk grew.

His words were kind but his tone, the way he spoke was sinister, unsettling and it made Cheyenne rather uncomfortable.

Cheyenne backed away from the guy, subconsciously.

“Right...thanks again.”

Within a second, Cheyenne’s head slammed against the wall and the man was towering over her, his arms on either side of her head, caging her beneath him.

“How could I? When I want you all for myself.” He whispered, after leaning into her ear.

Shuddering, Cheyenne pushed him away far enough to make a run for it. Her black heels didn’t let her get far as the dark haired man grabbed her by the waist and flung her back against the wall, this time facing the wall.

“Awe, don’t be like that. We could have so much fun together, sweetheart.” He whispered huskily and licked behind her ear.

She shuddered in disgust and struggled against his hold which caused him to hold on to her tighter but she didn’t give up. Cheyenne wasn’t going to let this guy have anything!

“Oliver, don’t do this! Let go!”

“Tsk tsk tsk, you’ll learn soon enough, sweetheart.”

Cheyenne was about to protest but a buzzy feeling came over her. The sharp pain in her back spread throughout her body. Her body violently convulsed against the taser Oliver held.

Once Oliver was sure she’d had enough, he pulled the taser away and caught Cheyenne as she fell against him. He then, briefly made his way out of the club and then on a rather long road trip with the unconscious dread head in his back seat.

Skylar was sitting next to Cheyenne as she slept in his bed. He watched her beautiful features tense as she dreamt.

Skylar frowned when She mumbled against the covers. She mumbled a name. A male name. Skylar frowned and made a mental note to ask her about that later.

He then stood up, leaving Cheyenne to her sleep and went downstairs to where everyone else was.

Skylar sat with his pack mates around the lounge area as they waited for all the details on last nights date.

“So wait a second, you guys went skating and then she fainted. What exactly happened in between there?” Chaskai asked.

“His mate sliced his hand open, try to keep up.” Aaron, the third in command, said.

“No, he’s asking how’d that happen? She just took her skate off and started swinging it?” Nadia asked.

Skylar frowned at all of them.

“She lost her footing and I was trying to steady her, when I tried she pulled away from me and we both went tumbling. I tried to catch myself but landed on her skate instead of the ice.” Skylar explained.

“Who are we even talking about?” Havana, Aaron’s mate, asked.

“Skylar’s mate.” Nadia said.

Havana made an ‘o’ with her lips and nodded but then smiled.

“Oh my gosh, Skylar! You found your mate?! That’s absolutely wonderful!” Havana beamed.

Skylar chuckled a bit and thanked Havana. He couldn’t blame her for just finding out, she’s been away at college for the past three weeks.

Just as Chaskai was about to continue the conversation, an ear piercing scream rang out the house.

Covering their sensitive ears, they looked around at each other completely surprised and concerned.

They all knew who it could’ve been and Skylar rushed upstairs to his room where he saw Cheyenne sitting up in bed completely fearful and breathing heavily. The rest of the pack following a bit behind, even Taylor and Cam came out of their room to see what the commotion was about.

“Hey, Cheyenne. It’s okay, you’re safe.”

She looked at Skylar and then at the crowd of people behind him in fear.

Skylar looked behind him to see that his whole pack was standing in the door way staring at them with concern and adoration.

“Uh, do you guys mind? You’re scaring her.” Skylar said.

“O-oh, right. Okay. We’ll be downstairs. Come down anytime.” Nadia said and pushes everyone downstairs after closing the door.

Skylar looked back at Cheyenne, fear dancing in her eyes.

“Cheyenne, it’s okay.” Skylar coos her, reaching to take her hand but she flinches away.

“Where am I, Skylar?” She asks, tears stinging her eyes.

“Hey, don’t cry, you’re okay. I promise. You’re in my room, in my house. You’re still in state. You’re safe.” Skylar tried reassuring her.

Cheyenne furrowed her eyebrows.

“What happened?”

“You fainted during our date last night so I—“

“Why didn’t you just take me home?!” Cheyenne asked, furious.

It stung that she was so angry with him. She was scared of him and she didn’t feel safe. He wanted her to feel secure with him, to think of him as her home.

“I didn’t know where you lived, Cheyenne. I could’ve figured it out but I didn’t want to invade on your privacy given that you don’t even like being touched.”

Cheyenne stiffened and looked down at her hands.

“Please take me home.” She mumbled, almost inaudible but Skylar of course could hear her.

“As much as I would love to, I still have to explain myself and you haven’t eaten since yesterday.”

Cheyenne frowned at him.

“You kidnapped me, Skylar. I trusted you!”

Skylar was taken aback by her sudden outburst and then hurt that she could even think he was the type of man to do such a thing.

“Cheyenne, I did not kidnap you. I’ll take you home once you eat something and I explain what you saw last night.”

Cheyenne’s face turned confused but the realization hit her like a truck. She looked at Skylar’s hand that was still just his hand. No blood, bandages, stitches, gashes.

“You’re hand.”

Skylar nodded.

“It healed immediately after the injury.”

Skylar nodded.

Cheyenne felt the need to tell him about the wolf she had healed a couple weeks ago. Yet, she felt like she couldn’t trust him even if every cell in her body is screaming for her to jump into his arms and spill every secret she had.

She refrained.

“Right. I thought you might want to know why.”

Cheyenne frowned at him.

Of course she wanted to know but she didn’t think he was going to just offer up the answer so willingly.

“Is it like some radioactive thing? Were you a part of some bad science experiments or something?”

Skylar smiled, a soft chuckle escaping his lips.

“No but that’s such a human thing to say.” Skylar smiled at her, really amused.

“A human thing to say? Are you implying you aren’t a human, Skylar?” Cheyenne asked, skepticism lacing her voice.

He looked at her, dead in her beautiful, mint colored eyes. She tensed against his gaze feeling rather uncomfortable but couldn’t look away.

His hazel eyes burning deep into her soul. She felt like he could see everything, all her flaws and obstacles. Every little thing she’s been fighting to bury.

But in his eyes she saw everything he wanted from her. She peeked adoration and love. His intentions with her were completely pure and he wanted her to trust him.

They stared at each other for what seemed like hours to her and yet, Skylar’s eyes did not waver. She could have sworn she saw a glint of gold under the hazel of his irises as if he had something deep beneath the skin.

“I’m not.”

And she believed him. She couldn’t understand why she was so open to the idea of him being anything but human, yet she was.

A month ago she would’ve laughed in his face and told him to hit the road but these past couple of weeks, spending time with Skylar made her want to give them a chance. Even if that meant throwing away all sane thoughts to get there.

“Then what are you?” She asked.

Her voice didn’t sound like hers. It sounded too curious, too bold compared to how she was feeling on the inside.

He smiled at her, lovingly.

“I think it’s better if I showed you.”

She looked at him up and down, breaking their prolonged staring.

She waited for him to do something miraculous but they just sat there. She didn’t move and neither did he.

“Then show me.” She furrowed her eyebrows.

Skylar shook his head and stood.

“Eat first. Secrets after.” He said.

Cheyenne looked at him like he was crazy, absolutely out of his mind. She was ready to protest but her empty stomach protested loudly against her protesting.

She sighed and got out of the bed, noticing for the first time that she wasn’t in the clothes she was in yesterday but instead in a long T-shirt and boxers.

She panicked, looking around herself for any signs that anyone had tried something or done anything.

Skylar looked at her worried noticing how panicked she was.

“You’re clothes are in the wash. Had to give you something in the mean time.”

Cheyenne looked at Skylar, fearful once more.

It pained him greatly to see her looking at him like that. Like he was some bad guy and she was his victim.

“Who changed me?” She asked, terror clear in her voice.

“Nadia changed you and I stayed out in the hallway until she was done.”

Cheyenne visibly relaxed and nodded at him.

Skylar made it a point to figure out what was causing her to be on such high alert and always fearful.

“Lets get you some food, yeah?”

Cheyenne nodded.

“Fine.”

Skylar refrained from taking her hand and led her out the door. He knew she was following him closely and led her to the kitchen where all his pack mates were scattered.

Nadia, Aaron and Cam were in the kitchen. Taylor was eating at the table. Havana sat on the couch reading a book and Chaskai was on his laptop across from Havana.

“Are you hungry, hun? I’m making brunch now. “The small red head, Nadia spoke.

Skylar looked beside him only to find his side empty and looked around himself to see Cheyenne standing behind him but out enough for her face to be seen.

“She’s hungry. Just put what ever you have on a plate.”

Nadia nodded and shoved a pile of eggs, three sausages, three strips of bacon, three pancakes on a plate and added a bowl of strawberries.

Cheyenne mumbled a thank you as Nadia handed her the hot food and sat diagonally across from Taylor who was staring at her.

Cheyenne tried not to make eye contact with the young girl but her staring at her made her want to glare back. She hated people staring. It made her anxious and self conscious.

“Why won’t you let uncle Sky tend to your wounds?! You love him, don’t you?!” She blurted.

Cheyenne jolted at the sudden outburst and stared at the little girl confused and flustered.

Everyone looked at Taylor just as shocked as Cheyenne was but the child clearly didn’t care about those around her.

“He’s only trying to help you! Can’t you see that he loves you?!” She shouted.

“Taylor, knock it off. It’s not your business to go meddling in.”

“But mommy—!”

“Cameron, take your sister to her room, please.”

The young boy that was sitting on the counter hopped down and helped his little sister out of the chair and took her upstairs. As Cameron left, he snuck a glance at Cheyenne and kept walking.

“I’m so sorry about that.” The red head said.

Cheyenne shook her head dismissively.

“It’s fine.” She said, continuing to eat what’s on her plate.

The faster she finishes her food, she would hear Skylar’s secret and then she could go home.

“Are you alright? She didn’t hit a nerve did she?” A man on the couch asked her.

Cheyenne shook her head. She stayed quiet and continued eating.

She started questioning herself. If Skylar had really kidnapped her, why was she allowed out of the room? Why wasn’t she chained up? Why was he feeding her? Why was Skylar doing everything he could to put her at ease?

None of it made sense to her.

What was the little girl even talking about? Her wounds? What wounds? All her wounds were healed, maybe just left some scars but healed nonetheless. And Skylar couldn’t possibly love her, they just met. They’ve been on two dates. All because she saved his wolf.

His wolf...

She thought about the elegant creature bleeding from his side. How it’s beautiful gray fur was stained crimson with his own blood. How the minute she removed the bullets, all was well as if it had never suffered any injuries. Just like Skylar’s hand.

His hand...

She remembered it clearly. His palm dripping blood from an open gash given by her skates. Yet, without any help at all, It healed completely. Not even a scar. There was no trace that injury had been inflicted on him.

Is it possible that both Skylar the wolf and Skylar the human are the same..?

No, that’s crazy, but is it possible...?

“Cheyenne?”

She jolted at the closeness of Skylar’s voice and looked at him, blinking rapidly.

“What?” She asked quietly.

“Are you really okay?” He asked, tentatively, not wanting to spook her anymore than he already has.

“What was that little girl talking about?” She asked, softly.

Skylar looked at her and then at Chaskai who was looking at him over the screen of his laptop.

Cheyenne followed his gaze and met eyes with the Alpha. The man smiled softly at her and she turned her gaze back to Skylar.

Skylar smiled at her.

“I guess I should introduce you to everyone then, huh?”

Cheyenne looked around at everyone as they smiled at her softly.

Skylar proceeded into introducing everyone from Chaskai, their Alpha to little Taylor, their Alpha’s daughter.

“We’re so excited to meet you, the way things were going we didn’t know when you were going to show up.” Havana smiled.

“When I was going to show up?” Cheyenne asked.

Havana nodded.

“Skylar was starting to mope around but still did his job. It was just kinda hard to watch.” Aaron teased.

“I wasn’t that bad.” Skylar rolled his eyes.

“If you even mentioned mate around the guy he’d get all sluggish and sad. “ Chaskai, their Alpha teased more.

“Okay, okay, you guys are milking it.” Skylar laughed.

“We’re not, and you know it!” Nadia laughed.

Cheyenne found herself smiling at the teasing and laughing going on through the family. It was sweet and she wanted something just like this. This warm feeling she felt, she wanted to feel this, forever. She wanted this.

“Alright, Alright. Cheyenne, I promised you the truth.“

Cheyenne looked at him and nodded.

“Skylar, are you sure? Now?” Nadia asked.

Skylar nodded.

“I am.”

“Sh-should we help?”

“No, no. I can tell her.”

Cheyenne looked at everyone in the room, feeling their uneasiness. She couldn’t understand why.

Was the truth bad?

Skylar stood and held his hand out to Cheyenne. She hesitated looking at his hand before slowly taking it.

Skylar lead her outside and all of the pack mates stared as they left right out the front door.

“She’s going to loose it.” Aaron said.

Everyone in the room nodded in agreement.

As Skylar took Cheyenne further away from the house, she began to wonder how stupid she could possibly be. A man, who kinda kidnapped her is now leading her through the woods.

“Why are you so tense?” Skylar’s voice brought her out of her thoughts.

“W-what?”

“You’re always on high alert, why is that?”

“You are dragging me through the woods in an area I don’t know. It’s only natural to be skeptical and suspicious.” Cheyenne found herself saying.

She never spoke her mind like that. Ever. She was always cowering away from such questions and always tucked away to disappear. It’s been a while since she’s spoken how she felt.

Skylar smiled slightly.

“Yeah, I guess I would be a bit suspicious, too.”

“What couldn’t you show me up by the house?”

“If I’m being honest, it’s to prevent you from running away too far.”

Cheyenne stares at him, and stopped in her tracks.

“What?”

Her hands got clammy and her heart started to pick up speed.

“No, no. It’s okay. I will not hurt you. Ever. I need you to trust me. Can you trust me?” Skylar asked, trying to reassure her.

Cheyenne just stared at him. She wanted to believe him, but preventing her from running was one thing she couldn’t compromise.

Skylar let her hand go and held his up, to show that he could be trusted.

“What do you need to show me, Skylar?” She asked, eyebrows furrowed clearly on edge.

Skylar nodded and dropped his hands across his body and started lifting his shirt off.

“Skylar!”

After he took the shirt off and discarded it on the woodsy floor, he started at his pants.

Cheyenne was about to run. The possible worst was running through her head. What was he about to do? Without his clothes?!

“I won’t hurt you. I’ll stay here, in this spot. I promise you. You won’t be hurt.” Skylar said, putting Cheyenne slightly at ease.

But she said nothing, she just watched him completely in shock as he got himself naked.

She watched him get naked! What was wrong with her?!

Her face was heated but she couldn’t look away from him. He was so beautiful to look at. He was built but not sickly built. His tones and muscles tightened in all the right spots. His olive skin glistened against the faint sun rays. He was just...gorgeous.

Everything was just right...

Skylar noticed her checking him out, checking everything out. He didn’t mind but focused on the task at hand. He wanted to keep her reassured.

“Just keep in mind, I won’t hurt you.“

Cheyenne stares at him, too in shock that he got completely nude in front of her. But soon it wasn’t Skylar.

The sound of bones breaking and shifting filled her ears and she cringed a bit at the sound but still couldn’t bring herself to move. The rational part of her mind telling her to run for the hills but the irrational part wanted to stay and see how far this would go.

The wolf.

“Oh my gosh...” She gaped

Staring face to face with a large gray wolf. The same wolf she had saved weeks ago.

She stumbled back.

“Oh my gosh...”She breathed out.

The wolf only stayed there watching her. She could see he wanted to be near her, but she wouldn’t allow it.

“Skylar?”

The wolf let out a little yelp to acknowledge his name being called. He sat, trying to look less intimidating to her.

Cheyenne’s shock slowly turned into something else; awe.

She slowly made her way towards the giant animal causing Skylar to stand which scared Cheyenne back.

“You won’t hurt me. You won’t hurt me.” She kept saying, more to herself.

Skylar the wolf nodded, as if confirming that he wouldn’t.

She stared at Skylar the wolf again and let him sniff her hand to which Skylar the wolf happily obliged. He sniffed up her arm and too her neck.

Cheyenne squealed at the sensation of his warm breath against her neck.

She wanted to run her fingers through his fur and so she did. She ran her fingers through his soft yet slightly corse gray fur. She smiled at the feeling of him against her hand. Cheyenne could tell Skylar enjoyed it just as much.

She loved wolves. Skylar in this form didn’t scare her. She could get close to him without feeling like he would hurt her.

Of course she knew Skylar the human wouldn’t hurt her but she trusted Skylar the wolf just as much.

Skylar let her run her fingers through his fur just as she had let him sniff her. He was pleased that she got this close, considering that she was always putting distance between them.

He whined when Cheyenne stepped away from him, hands gone and scent further away.

“Skylar the wolf? Can you bring Skylar the human back?” Her voice was nervous.

Skylar the wolf did a wolfy smile before shifting back into Skylar the human, with pops and cracks of the bones.

And he was still naked.

“U-uhh! You can get dressed!” Cheyenne said, flustered.

Skylar chuckled and did just that.

“Sorry about that.”

Cheyenne stares at him, the shock still visibly there but not so shocked she’d run for the hills. He did appreciate that she’d stay long enough to see where this would really go.

“I don’t want you to be scared of me, Cheyenne.”

The her names slipped off his tongue sent shivers down her spine and made her shudder.

Skylar notices but didn’t comment on it, yet was pleased that he had that affect on her.

“I-I’m not scared.”

And she honestly wasn’t. At all. Of course anyone else would run for their lives but Cheyenne found that Skylar trusted her enough to tell her this huge secret, the least she could do was trust him to keep his promise of never hurting her.

“I’m a little in shock but I’m not scared.”

“You’re taking this rather well.” Skylar pointed out.

Cheyenne shook her head.

“No, I’m not.”

Skylar raised an eyebrow at her.

“No?”

“I should be running. Screaming for help, Skylar but I’m not. I should be fighting against you right now and I’m not. I want to run. The rational thing to do is to run but I can’t. Why can’t I run from you?”

Skylar was quiet for a minute, understanding what she meant. Their bond was getting stronger. They’d been together for the past couple of weeks, it’s only natural. Cheyenne was feeling the pull toward him. She couldn’t live without him and didn’t even know it.

Skylar smiled at her.

“Because you’re supposed to be here with me. I don’t want you to run.”

Cheyenne shook her head.

Skylar closed the distance between them and wrapped his arms around Cheyenne before she had the time to move away from him.

She stiffened.

“You have to trust me, or else this relationship will be doomed before it’s even started. I’ve waited so long for you and I don’t intend on letting you go.”

His words should have scared her. His touch should have sent her into syncope. His breath should have made her wrinkle her nose. The closeness should have sent her heart into cardiac arrest. She should’ve been falling apart.

But she wasn’t.
