lies

Alicia stood at the door, a hurt expression on her face.

“ Alicia…” I croaked out but before I could say another word, she stomped away, leaving me torn between chasing her or staying back with Mia.

" Go after her. After all, she's the woman you choose for yourself.” Mia's words sounded wrong in every way and I could tell that she was angry.. Great! I managed to get both of them angry at me.

Turning around, I decided to make things clear between us.

“ Mia, you are my sister and I love you but Alicia is my girlfriend, the woman you'll soon call sister-in-law. I don't Know why you hate her so much but she's a nice woman. I wish you could give her a chance and get to know her better.

I am your brother, you don't expect me to stick around you forever. We have different lives away from each other. I hope you won't ruin what your brother has built over the years.” After speaking my mind, I left the room and headed outside.

I know that my sister sees me more than a brother. I won't lie that she's just my little sister to me.

I have always felt this strong attraction towards her and seeing her all grown up and womanly, my feelings for her were getting just as complicated.

Those words weren't Just meant for her but a polite reminder to me as well. She can only be my sister, nothing more.

As I descended the stairs, my gaze collided with my mother's who gave me a sharp glare.

“ I know what you feel for Mia but you are her brother. Even if we allow your relationship, others won't." She had said to me before I left home.

“ But she is not my biological sister. I don't see anything wrong with having feelings for her." I countered.

Yes, I always thought that Mia was my sister until I overheard my parents talking about the strange moon shaped scar on her shoulder.

It turns out that shortly after my mother gave birth to my sister, she died. The same day, my father brought a child home that he had picked in the woods during his patrol.

The two of them later decided to raise her as their own daughter and gave her my late sister's name. So technically, she was not my biological sister. Nevertheless, she was the sister I had come to adore all my life.

Of course, Mia knows nothing about this and my parents were hellbent on keeping things that way.

They loved Mia as their own and cared about her feelings after finding out about her parentage.

Ignoring my mother's gaze, I followed Alicia's scent and found her outside the house, seemingly waiting for me.

She had a glare on her face as I approached her, making me cringe.

“Alicia…” I croaked out. I didn't even Know what to say next. I mean what was I supposed to say? Say that I'm sorry and that won't happen again when I know deep down I'll always choose Mia over any other woman.

“ What? Cat got your tongue? You don't have anything to say?" She asked, the bitterness in her voice unhidden.

“ Tell me something Damian," she said, taking baby steps until she was standing before me. Her gaze was scanning my eyes, perhaps trying to find any deceit in them.

“ Do you feel something for your sister?" She asked, her question sending a frown on my face while deep down, my heart was racing.

“ What nonsense are you spouting? Mia is my sister." I replied, faking anger to hide the panic deep down.

“ Then do you care to explain why you always call her name when we make love? I obviously don't look like your sister." She inquired, tears glistening in her eyes.

I was taken aback by her words. I call Mia's name when we make love? I admit I always think about Mia everytime I make love to her but I never thought I would say her name.

“I don't Know what you are talking about. “ I denied outrightly.

I wasn't going to admit having feelings for my own sister. Alicia would think that I'm crazy although I doubt she already does.

" You don't have to deny it Damian.” She said, sighing frustratedly.

" I am tired Damian. Let's just break up. I can't keep being with a man who loves another woman who happens to be his freaking sister. I just can't.” Alicia added, a tired look on her face.

Looking at her eyes filled with pain and sadness, I felt disturbed.

Alicia was indeed a good woman. She was beautiful and with a beautiful heart. Her family background was good too. Although we weren't fated mates, she loved me. She came into my life when I was at my lowest. To forget about Mia, j found solace in her. Who would have thought that I would end up hurting her? She didn't deserve it.

“ I'm sorry Alicia but I'm not in Love with my sister. My ex was called Mia."

Lies. To cover up the lie, I told another lie. Goddess help me.

“You never talked about having an ex!" Alicia stated calmly but I could see the flickering joy in her heart.

“ I never thought it was important so I didn't mention it." I replied, pulling her in my arms and hugging her tightly.

“ I know that I haven't been the best boyfriend you deserve but please, don't break up with me. I'll try my best to be the boyfriend you could be proud of." I added, kissing her head softly.

" I didn't know you have an ex called Mia.” My sister mindlinked. I could feel the sarcasm dripping from her words and perhaps… anger?

Without a reply, I blocked her. I could not afford to be distracted by her when I just promised Alicia to be good to her.

“ Really?" Alicia beamed. Looking at her smile so happily, I could only nod and hope that I could keep my promise to her.

After placating Alicia with kisses, we headed back to the house.
