Chapter 2

I don’t bolt right at the beginning, like many others here already have. I find my pace and keep it. Letting swarms of people pass me.

I’ve been training for this for years, and while I’ve perfected my timing, I’ve also done my research. It’s my only edge.

I know where my competition falters, I know who here is actually a competitor and who just signed up with hopes and dreams. I don’t pay attention to them. The other wolves will narrow them out, thinking they’re a competitor.

It’s one good thing about being wolf-less, they don’t see me as competition. They probably won’t even attempt to disarm me until they realize I might be, focusing their efforts on stronger opponents.

I’m many things, but weak isn’t one of them. While being fast is my main skill, I also could have been a member in one of the hunting teams, or competed in the boxing, if it was just human form. I can fight, just not against a wolf.

I keep my pace, keeping to the side away from all the other competitors, when the savage part of the race starts coming out.

A girl next to me, Sable, transforms her hand into a claw, reaching down and cutting the Achilles heel of the competitor to her right. She speeds up and cuts down three more contestants on her way ahead of me. They all go down.

They’ll heal, just not soon enough to win the race. Four down, forty-six more to go.

I keep count of all the fallen as I run past them. One bleeding from her head. I’m not even sure I want to know what happened to her.

Twenty-five left, but I’m currently in thirteenth place.

I look down just at the right time, seeing a hole dug into the ground and jump over it, but the person that was following close behind me isn’t so lucky.

I hear her fall and her ankle snap, but I keep moving. It’s all apart of the race. And it’s what she gets for using me as a shield.

Twenty- four.

I round a corner, and prepare for the hill, seeing the several fallen on the hill, I pay extra attention.

I start up the hill, not seeing anything, but counting ten fallen.

Fourteen, third place.

I catch the dirt moving, just in time to fall to the ground and skid beneath the wire as it’s yanked up to force me to fall.

Cheaters.

I stand back up quickly and start running again.

I turn my head to see the man helping one of the contestants hide behind a tree.

While it pisses me off, it didn’t affect me yet, so I keep running.

This hill is giant, and I can still see Natalie and Sable up ahead, straining to reach the top. They wasted their energy, which is good. It’s exactly what I was hoping for.

Both of them are my biggest competitors. The last two in front of me, I just need to beat one of them. I just need second place, but I want first. I want to win this completely.

I finally pick up my pace and stride towards them. Sable sees me, her eyes narrowing as she speeds her pace as well. I catch up with her though, pushing ahead of her.

She uses her claws and reaches for my ankle, but I was prepared for it. Her claws hit the steel shields I placed around them. Not super helpful when it comes to speed, but it was a risk I had to take.

Sable falters, her body falling when her claws hit the steel, I hear a groan of frustration as she tries to right herself, but Natalie and I have already moved on, down the hill at high speeds.

Natalie’s a lot like me, doesn’t normally sink to the taking down an opponent, she just wants to run the race and may the best person win, but these stakes are higher then most.

Hopefully, she lets that be the case this time, because if she switches things up now, with Sable hot on our heels, I’ll be screwed

Colt bites down on my ear lobe, “Answer him, Onyx.” He growls low in my ear. Shivers race down my spine. “Yes.” I answer and Cyrus slams me down on his cock.I see Cyrus start to stare at my neck, but it’s like that’s what Colt was prepared for. His hand tightens, making sure he can’t be moved, also managing to cut off a bit of my air supply.Cyrus’s eyes move to mine, “Fuck, Princess.” He rasps, grabbing my hips, and speeding me up. He lifts off the bed, grabbing my ass and my back as he starts thrusting into me.He grabs a handful of my hair and pulls my lips down to his, Colt still keeping my neck covered, his hands sliding over my sides, kissing down my shoulder.Cyrus thrust into me one more time and we both explode. My body falls into Cyrus’s as we both come down, but Colt doesn’t wait long.He pushes both Cyrus and I back to the bed, pulling my ass in the air and thrusting inside of me easily. He grunts, his hand holding my back against Cyrus.Cyrus doesn’t seem to mind as he s

They circle me like pray, my breathing only heightening. Cyrus leans against my back, pulling my hair to one side of my shoulders and starts placing gentle kisses there. “Relax, Princess. We’ll take it easy… This time.” He whispers. My chest rises, Colt’s hand slides up my thigh, Orion’s rounding my stomach. “This time?” I rasp, my body rising to their gentle touches. Cyrus chuckles, deep, low, almost sadistic, “This time, Princess.”Fuck. Why does that turn me on?I lose track of where their hands are, where my clothes went, where their kisses touched. My nerves are so shocked, my body just feels like it’s vibrating.I feel a tongue hit my clit, a gasp leaving my lips, but only for a second before Orion’s lips cover mine, swallowing my moan. Cyrus grasps my breast, taking each in his hands, skillfully pulling, sucking and squeezing. My body arches off the bed, the orgasm slamming into me so hard I can hardly breathe.I pull away from Orion to catch my breath, but he just moves down m

I spend the rest of the day helping out at the diner, cleaning up the rubble, whether my mates are happy about it or not.Colt and I walk home in silence, he hasn’t necessarily been cold, he’s still talking to me if I talk to him, but he’s keeping a distance between us, that I haven’t been used too lately. We walk into our room, and I instantly bring it up. “What the hell did I do?” I snap, his jaw ticks, “Nothing.” He says through gritted teeth.I scoff, “Okay. Well, that’s clearly a lie.” I shout back.Next thing I know, my body slams against the wall, my body being held up by Colt’s. I suck in a surprised breath, his face inches from mine. “I’ve been fighting my wolf all fucking day. Trying to keep myself from throwing you over my shoulder, taking you to bed and having my way with you for the rest of the fucking night.” He rasps; my eyes widen. “What?” I whisper breathless.“Seeing you with her. How good you were… My wolf wants to put a pup in you.” His head falls, his eyes squeezi

Jacob, Polly, me and Colt all walk down to the café. It got a little bit damaged in the attack, but it’s still functioning, unlike the diner, which is going to take a little bit of time to fix up.We’re talking about the color of the streetlight when someone starts running towards us. The woman’s arms are opened wide, as she gets closer.Colt stops her before she can reach me, his hand on her shoulder pushing her back. She looks up at Colt, “I’m so sorry.” She says frantically, then looks over at me. “I’ve been trying to get ahold of you. I’ve wanted to thank you.” She rasps, and I place my hand on Colt’s arm to take it off the woman. She takes a deep breath, then looks back at me. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have ran up on you like that, especially after everything that happened.” My head shakes, “It’s okay.” I tell her, and she smiles kindly, then pulls at her leg… Not her leg… A little girl looks around her leg, and I recognize her instantly. The little girl from the diner.“We wanted

It’s been a week since the attack, and to say things have changed around here would be an understatement. People don’t just ignore my existence anymore.I get waves and people stopping me to talk. I actually feel like I’m starting to belong to this pack and not just my mates. Granted it’s next to impossible to get a moment to myself anymore. I always have at least one of my mates by my side.Even though I’ve made the point that the attack wasn’t even for me, so it’s pointless to be so concerned. They’re still on alert thinking that whoever in this pack that doesn’t want me here, made this attack possible.I woke up feeling completely fine, the healer has healed me everyday, even though he’s told my mates that what he can heal in my body has been healed for three days now.I walk out of the bathroom dressed in a sports bra and leggings, as soon as. Cyrus sees me he lifts an eyebrow, but I ignore him, walking to my other mate sitting on the couch. He watches me, his eyes sliding over th

“She lost a lot of blood. You have to give her some time. She’ll wake up, Orion. I promise.” I hear the healers voice, before I can gather the strength to open my eyes.“You’ve been saying that for two days.” Cyrus snaps, and I hear the healer sigh, “I’ve done what I can do.” He explains, and I listen as his footsteps leave the room.“I shouldn’t have left her.” Colt whispers, Orion’s tongue ticks. “We all left her.” He says through gritted teeth. My eyes flutter open, and I instantly have three Alphas standing over me. “Thea.” Colt rasps, grabbing my hand, Orion grabs my forearm and Cyrus grabs my shoulder. How they’re all standing that close to each other with their giant bodies almost makes me laugh, but I can’t find the energy.“How are you feeling?” “Are you okay?” “Are you crazy?” They all just start listing off questions that they’ve gathered in the apparent two days I’ve been here.I look at each of them, “Where’s Polly? Is she okay?” The words come out croaked and mumbly, Ori
