Chapter twelve

Kennedy 

I woke up fuzzy headed and groan with a hand on my forehead. I could feel Samantha behind me and she lets out a relieved breath. She caresses my stomach and I feel tears at my back.

"You've been out for two days," she chokes in a whisper. "After you collapsed, I killed the council. They knew it would happen and didn't say anything. I lost it."

"I'm sorry," I choke in a wavering whisper. 

"No, it's not your fault. You only did what you thought was right. Just promise me, no more full shifts until after they're born," she chokes with relief. 

"I'm not sure I'll ever do another full shift. My head feels like it's under water," I say in a breathy whisper. I place my hand over hers and ask, "Can you sense them? I'm too fuzzy headed."

"They're fine," she says in a soothing whisper and I let out a relieved breath. "Do you want to try eating something?"

"Please, thank you," I say quietly and she kisses my forehe
