Kieran’s povI chuckled while nodding. “You don’t think I’m lying about this do you?”He shook his head. “I just want to know because this is… unorthodox. It’s not supposed to be a thing. Kieran’s povI nodded again, telling myself to keep my goddamn face neutral. “You just say when.”He clapped me on the back once more and then stepped away, moving back toward the camp. I turned around then and watched him go as he disappeared into the dark shadow of the trees. He walked with square shoulders and a quick confidence. When he was gone I looked back at the fire for a while.The smell of cooking meat was chokingly thick, the heat driving me to stand up and back a step, but it fueled my thoughts and plans and strategies. Kieran’s povThe training yard was alive with the sound of swords clanging, the scuff of boots hitting and the men still drowsy-eyed. Barely visible in the rising dust, I padded among them watching.
