Sirella’s pov

The traitor knelt before me, hands tied behind his back, head bowed.

His breathing was uneven, shallow. He knew what was coming.

I did too.

Alpha Donovan stood beside me, arms crossed. His expression was unreadable, but his words weren’t.

“Prove your loyalty.”

The dagger in my hand felt heavier than it should. Cold. Unfamiliar.

I had trained for this. I had been taught how to kill—where to aim, how to make it quick, how to make it hurt. But this was different.

This wasn’t a training dummy. This wasn’t a lesson.

This was a man.

I could hear his heartbeat. Could see the sweat beading at his temple.

He was afraid.

My grip tightened around the handle.

I wasn’t sure how long I stood there, but it must have been too long because Donovan spoke again.

“Do it.”

I swallowed.

I could feel Keiran watching me from a few steps away, silent as ever.

I didn’t look at him.

I couldn’t.

I wasn’t weak.

I wasn’t weak.

Then, for the first time, I met t

Salvatore’s povI stood at the edge of the field with my eyes moving across it. The grass was yellow and dead as I looked around. This was supposed to be the meeting point with that bastard Donovan. My generals fanned out behind me—men and women who’d faced down monsters from one horizon to another. I paused for a moment in the center of that field and frowned because someone was missing.Kieran should have been with me, right here. The absence of his presence there beside me lingered in my gut like something had gone wrong. Kieran had always flanked me on days like these—days when I needed a sharp edge. He could be that edge when there wasn’t any other option. The general shrugged, his eyes narrowing as he looked around. “He was here this morning, Alpha. Maybe he went scouting.”That didn’t make sense. Kieran never failed to attend important meetings, not one like this. I narrowed my eyes in response. “Get him,” I said sharply. “I want him here now. I don’t like it when he’s not by m

Sirella’s povI sat there in the healer’s room, my hands shaking slightly as her assistants moved around silently, taking blood samples and writing things down on their little notepads. It was warm in the room and it smelt of herbs and something sweet I couldn’t put my finger on. I held the cup of tea she’d given me earlier – I sipped at it slowly – felt its warmth travel down my throat. Tried to steady myself but that knot wouldn’t go away. The healer worked well with her hands, quickly and lightly. She turned to me after a bit – her face was kind.“Sirella when last did you… um… when last did you lie with a man?”I looked at her, my eyebrows crossing in confusion. “What do you mean?” I asked, my voice cracking a bit. I held the cup tighter as my knuckles started to turn white. She smiled sweetly. “I’m just asking,” she said walking near and sitting across from me, her eyes seemed gentle like she didn’t want to alarm me.I swallowed hard, my mind going back to a place I had tried so

Sirella’s povI woke up that morning with a heavy feeling in my gut, one I couldn’t seem to shake off. My eyes flitted open and as soon as I sat up, the wave of nausea that hit me sent me stumbling backward onto the bed again. I clamped my hand over my mouth as I pushed myself out of the sheets, barely making it to the washroom before I vomited all over the sink. I gasped for breaths leaning on the edge of the sink while clutching it till my knuckles turned white.I looked at myself through bloodshot eyes in the mirror, paler than usual. I frowned at my own reflection, when was it ever this bad? Granted there had been pressure with talks of war in air and peace treaty underway surrounding every inch of pack house, but this?I tried to breathe in a calm manner as I turned on the tap to rinse my mouth. The water felt good as I splashed some on my face to calm myself. An intense pain has me clutching my stomach as the pain has me leaning towards the sink.“What’s happening?” I asked the

Damien’s povI could hear the pounding on my door as I growled awake and looked at it for a while. What was it this time? Were we under attack?I heard the knocking coming on again as I groaned to my feet and walked to open it as I saw a palace guard standing there.“What?” I said grumpily. He stepped back and bowed. “Your father is getting ready for the war, sire.”I stared at him, trying to make sense of his words. “What?” I asked in disbelief. “My father said he wasn’t going. He said he was sending someone else.” I felt my heart accelerate as my brain tried to process what new madness had arisen. The guard simply nodded. He didn’t change the expression on his face. “He’s with the convoy now, sir. He says to have you get ready and to meet him there. Also, bring your weapons.”I hesitated for a few seconds saying nothing more. “Alright,” I said as I rushed to brush, arrange my morning hair and dressed into my armed clothes.I grabbed my sword and guns and headed out.I didn’t underst

Sirella’s povI closed the door behind me, my heart still pounding in my chest from the sound of the loud knock that had snapped me out of my thoughts. But when I spun around it was just Damien. In my room.I could see his angry expression as his arms were folded across his chest."I knew it." He said in anger."Knew what?" I repeated, mirroring his posture.“I knew that you were a traitor,” he said in rage.I wasn’t going to let him see that I was scared–he can't know… He doesn't know! He's bluffing! He stepped around and moved closer to me—his boot tapping on the wooden floor of the opening space as he halted just ten feet in front of me. “Oh,” he replied snidely, “I know exactly what your game is—I’m not blind Sirella.”“Look, I have no idea what you are talking about. You sound paranoid.” My voice came out steady, and even though I could feel my hands shaking just a little. I clenched my fists behind me to stop them.“You think you saying that would save you?” He smiled. His words

Sirella’s povThe moment I entered my room, I closed the door behind me in a quiet motion and looked at my shaking hands. How did it come to this?I released the breath I didn't even know I had been holding since as I leaned against the door for a moment. I had almost been caught by that bastard, Damien. His sharp senses and eyes felt like they could see through my lies.I shook my head as I walked away from the door and paced around the room.Did he have any right to talk to me in that manner? Who did he think he was?The urge to grab my knife that was hidden under my bed and march back out there to stab him was strong, oh so strong! I could almost feel the weight of the knife in my hand; its cold metal covering warming up due to flesh contact. But I knew better. I knew that would only cause more problems. Donovan would find out, and then I would be dead before I even had a chance to blink.I had to keep it together. At least that was out of the way but I had bigger problems to wor

Damien’s povI looked up at the skies to see the moon going high and high in the skies as I walked about with my hands in my pockets.I loved how quiet and peaceful it felt in the garden at this time; there were barely any moments during which I could think without being interrupted. But tonight felt different.I saw something from within my peripheral vision: a swift movement, a darting across the very edge of sight that belonged to nothing else but a shadow. Suspicion arose as I noticed how fast they were moving- legs pumping ceaselessly underneath themself in a desperate attempt to escape something. I stood there for a while, hesitating whether or not to give chase after them, before thinking better of it. Someone skulking about at this hour? Fat chance. This person might be a spy or an assassin and I would be a fool to let them go.Using my super speed, I managed to zip into the way of the intruder as I blocked the way before they could understand what was going on.Within seconds

Sirella’s povI didn’t look back as I ran through the forest while trying to stay alive. I didn’t know of anyone of those men were after me after fighting Kieran but I didn’t want to stay to find out.Soon, I heard laughter as I halted in my steps and hid behind a few bushes.“…he really thinks it’ll work?” one of them asked, his voice harsh and incredulous. The other laughed quietly. “Oh, it will work. Donovan wants Salvatore dead, and when Donovan wants something,” the speaker shook his head in envy at the alphas powers, “he gets it. The snipers are in position. One bolt to the heart—an instant death.”So these were the assassins? No matter. I would make sure they regretted their actions by reporting them to…I didn’t finish thinking when a rough hand grabbed my neck as I was pulled to my feet.I felt tears spring into my eyes instantly from the pain. “Huh,” a chuckle reached my ears. “And what if I might say do we have here? Little Sirella, what are you doing down here?”“Nothing,

Kieran’s povI chuckled while nodding. “You don’t think I’m lying about this do you?”He shook his head. “I just want to know because this is… unorthodox. It’s not supposed to be a thing. Is it?”He was even more confused than I was. “Well… to be honest, it’s what Donovan’s messenger said. He came into the camp, right into Salvatore’s tent, and delivered the message. They want to meet at dawn, in the middle of the battlefield. No weapons. No armies. Donovan just wants the two of them to meet up and talk about… peace.”I had stretched that last bit well so he would know how ridiculous the word was for our course. He sighed and rubbed his chin while he looked around with the cogs in his head turning.“I don’t understand these alphas,” he scoffed. “Why now? Why would Donovan agree to that? I thought he wanted revenge for Salvatore attacking him earlier. He’s been the one pushing for the war. Why is he having a change of heart now?”“I was thinking the same thing,” I said. “To be honest,
