“How many girls have you brought here?” I asked, talking before he could say anything.

Maddox looked at me again and frowned. “Too many.”

Turning my back to him, I wasn’t sure why that hurt my feelings. “What did you talk to Cade about?”

“Your protection and who your mate could be.”

That got my attention. “Excuses me?” Turning back around, I had opened my mouth to say something. However, the look in his eyes stopped me.

“You aren’t 18 yet, but there are signs. My dad told me that when you find your mate, they consume you. They stay on your thoughts. Your skin tingles when you touch, and it’s like you are drawn to them. Running into them just by fate.” His voice faded away. “Do you know what I’m talking about?”

I looked Maddox in the eyes as his words sank in. I’m not sure my skin tingled when he touched me, but he is always on my mind. “No.” I lied.

Maddox snorted, but the side of his lip twitched up. “Are you sure about that?” He pushed away from the car and slowly advanced on

Jo had brought me something completely different from I owned. It was a solid blue romper. It was somehow tight but loose at the same time. Stopping just below my ass, my tits were not quite out, but visible. After she curled my hair and applied makeup, I felt more like a doll than anything. She was wearing shorts that looked more like a skirt than shorts with a t-shirt tied at the waist in a knot. Currently, we were in Jo’s blacked out Challenger. “So, what are we doing today?” I asked, unsure if I wanted to really know. “Manicures and pedicures. Some shopping and who knows? Just let the day take us!” She looked at me with her pink sunglasses. The sun was bouncing off them, blinding me even though I was wearing my black pair. “Maddox gave me his credit card, so we are shopping on him today.” “You are a little extra today.” I said with a smile. Jo shrugged. “What can I say? I am loving this sunshine with my future sister-in-law.” “Can we just focus on just us girls?” I asked, smi

“That means making sure you keep your shop and anything else you want to be a part of. I don’t want to be that guy.” I watched as Maddox’s face fell. He was seriously analyzing his actions and how he was going about things. His shoulders slumped. Partly because the chain was pushing into them, but I think he was trying to figure out what kind of man he wanted to be. “What did you want to accomplish as an alpha?” Maddox looked around. “Help those who can’t afford it. There are farming grounds that are for sale. We can grow produce for those families, that will increase jobs and opportunities. I want to rebuild the broken down buildings and restore the city back to where it was. That would increase our properties and income.”“More jobs and everything for people, too.” I added. Maddox looked at me and nodded. “It seems most of the alphas are focused on taking their existing businesses to the next level. They are buying out the middleman and increasing poverty locations. If I own the

He leaned forward and looked at me. “I decided on a BBQ for our birthdays.” “No pool party?” I asked, looking over at him. “Too many hormones and people running off and fucking everywhere. No, let’s keep our clothes on for a while, anyway. We can either do it at my pack or yours, Maddox. Both have great lawns for the size of this party.” “You tell me. I’ll do whatever you guys want.” Cade leaned back and put his arm over his chair. “If it’s okay, let’s do it at your pack. Michele has a way of making things about her and ignoring Tatum’s wants.” “Sounds good.” Maddox looked over at Cade. “Just give me all the details of what you want and we will make the rest happen.” “I don’t think we are picky. Tatum will want a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. Maybe some yard games and drinks. I can either give you some money for our part or I can buy the alcohol and shit.” Maddox waved him off. “Neither. I will take care of it.” “I can’t let you do that.” Cade didn’t like that idea.

“You wanted this shop, not to pay attention to pack shit.” Cade kept cleaning as I kept handing him bolts and nuts. “It’s not that there is a meeting. It’s the fact that he said I am his mate, right? So, that means I am going to be their luna. Reed stopped by here and what if he would have said something to me? I would have looked stupid, not knowing what he was talking about. Plus, you want me to accept we are mates, but then not treat me like I will be a part of pack business? He said I was under your jurisdiction… like I was just an object. If that is the case, I don’t want a mate that sees me like this.” Cade just listened and nodded along. “Yeah, that probably wasn’t the best choice of words.”“You think?” I asked, slapping down another engine part. “You aren’t exactly the easiest person to get along with.” Cade looked at me and smiled. “I’m a delight.” “You are a pain.” Cade even laughed a little. “Did you really want him to tell you what was going to be discussed, or did y

Neither one of us spoke as Reed got in his ugly ass sports car and drove off. The silver made Jaguars look like mom vehicles. “What meeting?” I asked, looking at Maddox. He sighed and looked down at me. “Friday. We are having a full meeting with all the alphas about the laws or rules changing.” Maddox turned back to head back into the office. Our four packs were a main branch for all the alphas in the west part of the United States. My dad, being the strongest of them, had the most say. However, if Reed got enough support, our city could be a hot zone for an entire country’s war. “Why didn’t I know about this meeting? How many alphas are going to be in town?” Running after Maddox, it was clear this wasn’t something he wanted to talk about. “If Cade didn’t tell you, then that is a question for him.” Maddox sat down in his chair, trying to pick up his hamburger. Slamming my hand down on top of his, I wasn’t done with this conversation. “Excuse me? Why can’t you tell me?” “You aren

The truck slowly pulled in front of the garage. Storm clouds were slowly rolling in, making me smile. “I didn’t know it was supposed to rain.” I said, watching Steele carry the food inside. His eyes looked at Maddox, who still hadn’t moved. “Me either.” Steele looked at me and mouthed, “what’s wrong with him?” I pointed at my side and shrugged. “Let’s go sit down in the office.” Pointing to a room behind the front desk, Steele took the food and put it on the table. Only when my hand touched Maddox did his eyes open. There was something haunting in them as he looked at me. “My past sins have hurt you, emotionally and now physically.” “I’m not sure emotionally is the right word.” Rolling my eyes, there wasn’t much I could do but grab his hand and pull him into the office. “I got hamburgers and fries.” Steele was halfway laying it out for us. “I wasn’t sure what you liked, so I got a Dr. Pepper, Root Beer or Pepsi.” “Dr. Pepper, please.”Steele nodded and pushed over a drink to me
