Her head was barely above the water when he lowered his face and growled in hers. As opened his mouth to attack, more wolves appeared just above the cliff. Their growls caused the wolf to immediately take off running. I watched as four wolves jumped the creek and took after him.

“He’s down here!” Steele’s voice barked orders as he ran down. Letting out a soft yip, Steele’s eyes instantly locked with mine. “Someone get her out of the water and get her a blanket!”

Two men in only gym shorts ran down to me. “Can you shift?”

Holding up my paw, their eyes went wide. “MEDIC!” One shouted. “Tom and Vincent. Get down here and help her wolf up.”

Two wolves were beside me instantly. The first one gently nudged under me and the other allowed me to use him as a crutch as I limped my way up the creek bed. After slipping the second time, a third some came splashing down and pushed me from behind to give me enough forced to break the barrier.

The movie kept playing at Alpha William, and my dad had to keep Maddox from getting up. Cade jumped in the ambulance with me. Needles were being pushed in, more fluid going in me. Cade had tears in his eyes, telling me to hold on. It would go black again before something else would flash again. This time, people were running, and Cade was being pushed back as I kept going. Even brighter, harsher white lights instantly blinded me. The smell of alcohol, white and blood filled my senses just before I was completely knocked out. It was only the sound of someone crying that woke me up for good and, more annoyingly, so. “Jo, you have to stop.” Cade’s voice was trying to soothe her. “She is going to make it.” “Yes, please stop.” My voice was barely above a whisper, and my eyes didn’t want to work. “Did she just talk?” I heard Maddox’s voice. “Tate? Honey, talk to me.” Cade’s soft voice was instantly beside me. “Make Jo (cough, cough) stop crying.” She started laughing, yet cried even

My back slammed against a tree, making everything crack that shouldn’t. I watched in horror as I fell to the ground as Maddox’s car rolled over and over again. Until it fell from my view and down into the creek. “Cade?” I whispered, hoping he could hear me. Three wolves looked over the edge at Maddox. They way they looked at each other, I knew they were mind-linking. I wasn’t sure what condition Maddox was in, but I would not allow him to die. Mate or not. With every ounce of strength I had, I forced myself to my feet. My shoes were ripped from my body, my dress was torn, and my bracelet was gone. The only advantage I had was the fact they didn’t seem to realize I wasn’t in the car anymore. One wolf stayed up top, while I watched the other two slowly advance down the creek bed. This was my chance to kill at least one. Clawing it’s neck would be the easiest way since it was too big for me to snap it. My heart raced as I heard the sound of metal being bent as I got closer and closer.

“I just wanted a chance to talk to you without your bodyguards around you. I could see it in your eyes that you felt the same way I did in Maddox’s office. You couldn’t speak freely there, but you can here.” He walked up to me with a look in his eyes that made my innate panic mode switch on. “I’m sorry, but I’m not going to take you up on your offer. I believe in the mate bond.” My voice was level, steady, and strong. Even my wolf was growling in my head, ready to attack if needed. There was a knock on the door before the handle shook. Reed was behind me with his hand over my mouth. “TATUM?” Steele’s voice echoed through the music. Since we weren’t part of the same pack, I couldn’t mind-link him. “CADE!” I said in the only person I could think of. “REED HAS ME!” He didn’t respond, but I could feel the anger through the mind-link. “Since I probably only have 30 seconds, let me make myself clear.” Reed turned me around. I tried to knee him in the balls, but he was quicker and blocke

“When you put it that way, it all seems so stupid.” Maddox finally said. Jo nodded. “It really does.” “Oh, I also got beat up by a girl that literally kicked me when I was down.”“Yeah, how did you forget about that?” Jo slapped my shoulder. “She isn’t even a blimp on my radar.” I said just as Maddox pulled into the club. “Ah, Cade is already here.” Maddox pulled into a parking space, barely missing Brett as she bounced over to us. “Damn, she looks good!” Jo sang as Brett’s breast barely stayed in her skintight dress. “I prefer maroon.” Maddox winked at me before Brett ripped open my door. “I missed you!” Yanking me out, she pulled me into a tight hug. “Don’t hog her!” Beau and Hayden came out, each wearing the most gaudy silk shirts I had ever seen. When Brett let me go, they each pulled me into a hug. “Miss you, Tate.” “I missed you guys, too.” Wrapping my arms around each of their necks, they both squeezed me around the waist, pulling me off my feet. “Alright. That’s enoug

“Thanks.” I just started doing a little twirl when the boys walked in. “Sexy!” Steele whistled just before Maddox slapped him upside the head. All three of them looked like body guards. Maddox was in all black. Sleeves rolled to his elbows with three buttons undone. His hair was left with that shaggy look that seemed effortless but probably took longer to do than my hair. Steele had one half of his shirt untucked, while Spencer didn’t even bother buttoning his. Just left it open with his abs on full display. As much as I wanted to let my body melt into Maddox, I kept the fire in my eyes as I handed him my ID. “Here you go.” I made sure to stay just outside of his arm reach. Even after he tried to snag my wrist, I was able to avoid him. “Everyone ready?” Jo was smiling at me, but her foot was tapping on the floor. “Yes ma’am.” “After you.” Steele opened the door and motioned for us to go first. Doing my diligence to avoid Maddox, I was able to slip around Jo and kept her between u
