Lizzie's heart would not stop pounding even though they had already arrived at the emergency room of Clarke's Lake Hospital. Jerome was still unconscious, and he looked so pale he could be mistaken as already dead.
As soon as they entered him inside the operating room, Lizzie broke down on the floor. Her mascara ran down her face, and her hair had become messy. Cassie only sat by her side, hugged, and comforted her.
"I swear I will kill Frank once I see him again. I will study every book in my grandmother's shelves to learn how to kill an immortal like him," Lizzie said, then went back on crying.
"He didn't know what I am or what happened to Aria in the woods. He doesn't know anything," she sobbed. "But now, he's the one suffering."
Cassie only patted Lizzie's back to calm her down and stop her crying. She already knew what to do to save Jerome's life, but she couldn't do it with people around them.<
"I told you to wait!" Matt said. He slammed the door of the car and pedaled on the gas. The vehicle's engine roared as its tires wheeled against the concrete road and left the vampires with nothing but dust."Do you think a piece of jewelry with a piece of herb hidden on it would be able to stop them from attacking you?!"Aria did not like the way he spoke to her, but she kept her lips tightly closed. She knows Matt was right. She knows what she did was an impulsive decision that almost cost her not just her own life but her friends as well."Why is it not working?" Cassie asked as she tried to bite herself and let Lizzie drink some of her blood. "It should be working. It worked with Jerome," she said.Cassie's blood was all over Lizzie's mouth, her dress drenched in her blood, and her eyes were barely open. Aria held her cold and feeble hand tightly as Matt disregarded the speed limit to go to
As soon as Aria turned around and saw Leo's face, her face lit up in happiness, and she swiftly ran towards him. She threw her arms around his neck and buried her face on his chest."Are you alright?" Leo asked, then he hugged her tighter, inhaling the scent of her tangled hair."Yes, I'm fine now. Have you got any answer?" Aria asked.Matt stared at how Aria's mood lightened up as soon as she saw Leo. Something pinched his heart, and it did not escape Cassie's observing eyes."I think I've seen this film before," she said in a sing-song voice.Matt looked at her and rolled his eyes. "I don't know what you're talking about," he said, walking to the opposite side of the hallway, away from Cassie."You know it. I know you know it," Cassie said. "It's already there. I can tell it. You're not the first person I met who fell in love with his brother's girl."
Lizzie slightly opened her eyes as it adjusted to the brightness of the room. She removed her blanket and tried to feel the wound she had last night. It still stings, but it was not as painful as it was before.Mrs. France fell asleep beside her bed, holding her hand, but she woke up as soon as she felt Lizzie move."How are you, sweetie?" Mrs. France asked. She inspected Lizzie's bandage to be sure that it was still attached properly."I'm okay, just...what is this bitter thing in my mouth?" she grimaced."That's the medicine I gave you," Mrs. France said. She stood up and poured a glass of orange into a small cup. "Here, drink this. It can take away the bitterness," she said.Lizzie sipped slowly from the cup when she realized her mother was staring at her. She immediately gulped the drink and asked for one more, which Mrs. France gave right away, but her disappointed look did
The scent of old books and musty air lingering around the room welcomed Aria and the Hunter brothers as they entered the basement of Lizzie's house. It was impossible to know from the outside that a room like this existed beneath the France family home. Its ceiling goes as high as the sky, bookshelves stand as tall as the ceiling, and for a moment, Aria thought they had opened a portal to a different world."Wow!" was all she muttered. "How?" she tried to ask Mrs. France but couldn't get out the words she wanted to say.The room seemed to have bewitched the Hunter brothers too, and both were stunned to talk. Mrs. France grinned a little, proud of how amazed they were."This was the work of Lizzie's great grandmother," she said. "I think Lizzie tapped with her magical powers when she stumbled upon this room.""It's majestic," Aria said, still in awe of all the
Matt's eyes widened as he took a step back, mouth gaping in disbelief as he stared at the horror in front of him. His brother was staring at him with empty eyes, blood all over his chest, and his still-beating heart not far from where he was lying - lifeless.Beside him lays Aria. Eyes shut tight, her hands a few inches from Leo's hand, and a dagger embedded in her chest. But his horror turned to confusion as he saw Leo and Aria standing by his side alive and well, though they have the same horror-stricken expression plastered on their faces."What the hell? Mom! Dad!" Aria screamed as she rushed to where Matt could see his brother and Aria's dead body."What the hell is going on?" Leo asked."Calm down. We need to calm down," Mrs. France said. Ironically, she, herself, couldn't calm down. But she had stopped screaming and finally understood the situation.&n
"Mom? Dad?" Aria called out to her parents as soon as she stepped inside their house. It was oddly quiet, and the neatness of the living room was the exact opposite of the kitchen. The stove was still on, and the soup was overflowing from the cauldron down to the kitchen floor. The remnants of broken plates and glasses were everywhere, so Aria walked in carefully. The smell of burnt food was swirling all over the kitchen. Aria turned off the stove, then the oven."What happened here?" she loudly asked as if expecting someone could answer her.She was alarmed when she saw trails of blood below the kitchen sink. "Mom? Dad?" she called out once more with her voice trembling in fear of what could have had happened.Aria followed the trail of blood with shaking feet. It led to her parents' bedroom. She muttered a silent prayer that, hopefully, it was not what it seemed. She held her b
"Woah. Something's different, hmm," Lizzie said as soon as she saw Aria walk inside the hall. With a smile plastered on Aria's face and her smudged lipstick, Lizzie could tell that Aria and Leo finally had their moment."Shut up, Liz," she said, trying to look annoyed, but the blush on her cheeks betrayed her."Okay, maybe we should go fix your make-up first. While you tell me all about it," Lizzie said, giggling while pulling Aria to the girls' room."Aria, anyone who could see you right now can say what you just did," Lizzie said, still teasing Aria. Aria ignored her and continued fixing herself."So, do they have any news about who attacked Cassie and Matt?""No," Aria said, shaking her head. "Leo said they know who they are, but they don't have any idea what their motives are? I mean, why would they attack a werewolf and a vampire thousand of miles away from them?" Aria frown
Cassie's life changed from being taken care of to the one who needed to take care of things. Valerie, Cassie's mother, had a hard time moving on after the death of her husband. Matthew West's untimely demise had taken a toll on both his wife and child.Valerie spent most of her time working and drowning herself with alcohol and TV shows playing in the background, neglecting her fifteen-year-old daughter.Thankfully, Cassie had Aria and Lizzie by her side to help her go through the most painful phase of her life. But, that did not last.A few months after her husband's death, Valerie said she found a man she wanted to marry, so she left Clarke's Lake and took her daughter with her. They moved to Alaska, where Cassie lived for three years before going back to Clarke's Lake. At least that was what people knew. They never moved to Alaska.Matthew's great-great-great-grandfather took
