Chapter 1

Chapter 1

I'm still thinking about what I remember from earlier. It was so unexpected. Elena mentioned blue eyes, and it immediately came to mind. Perhaps because Elena mentioned blue eyes. Should I consult Auntie Susan on this?

I took a deep breath as I arranged my belongings on my table. It's already five o'clock in the afternoon, which means my workday is over. I have to go home because I still have to prepare dinner. I frequently do this because Auntie Susan and Uncle Peter arrive later.

"Amara?" I came to a halt when I heard my name called. When I looked up, I saw Henry. I gave him a friendly smile. When I first started working at this company, he was my first friend. He used to be my manager, but he was recently promoted to a much higher position, so we see each other every time we go home.

"Are you finished? Let's eat dinner," he suggested. I considered what he said. Instead of cooking, perhaps I should buy Auntie Susan and Uncle Peter food. I'm not a good cook, and I know my auntie only tolerates my cooking, so I feel guilty when I cook.

"Sure!" I said, nodding to Henry. Henry and I both left the company at the same time. I was in his car as usual. Henry grew up in a middle-class family. That is why many people admire him, and he is also very attractive. Many people are envious of me because I am his only close friend. Henry is pleasant, but I am his closest female friend.

"How's your job?" he asked as he drove towards the restaurant where we used to eat. I remembered something earlier because of his question. Henry is aware of my predicament. He is aware that I only remember a sliver of my past and my name. But, like Auntie, I can't reveal my true personality to him.

I am not like them in any way. I am clearly different. That is for certain.

I attempted to find my kind on the internet, but humans believe that human wolves are myths. There are many books about people like me, but to them, it's all nonsense. That kind only exists in fiction and in the authors' imaginative minds. I decided to find my home, where my kind was living, the day I remembered a bit of my past and the wolf inside me, but I couldn't remember where it was. Especially since no one can tell where people like us live based on the internet.

I was raised as an orphan. That's what I recall. As a result, no one will look for me. I don't have any parents, so I wonder if this is really my world now. Because I don't have any family in the world where I used to live, no one misses me. But why does thinking about that world make my heart ache so much? I feel as if I'm missing something. It's almost as if I want to see something. I'm looking for someone, but I'm not sure who it is.

"Are you okay, Amara?" Henry stopped my thoughts. I quickly wiped away the tears that had fallen down my cheeks. Henry came to a complete stop in his car. I just realized we were already at the restaurant. Henry's gaze is fixed on me.

"I'm fine, Henry," I said convincingly. I fixed my gaze on him. His gaze was filled with concern.

"Please let me know if anything bothers you," he said softly. I gave him a friendly smile. Henry is a wonderful person. I consider myself fortunate to have him as a friend. I gave him a nod.

"Thank you, Henry," I thanked him. He smiled.

I was able to strike up a conversation with Henry as soon as we walked into the restaurant. We talked about everything, especially work and his family. He also mentioned what Elena had previously told me. The new investor in the company

"I heard about that a while ago; did he really invest a lot?" I inquired. I'm just curious why that investor instantly connected with the entire company because, aside from being handsome, he also appears to be very wealthy.

"Yes, he almost bought the whole company!" Henry exclaimed, astounded.

"What?”

"Actually, Amara, it's a secret, but the company is slowly losing everything; we're in the midst of bankruptcy, but luckily, this investor agreed to invest in our company, and that's why it happened," Henry explained. I slowly nodded. Now I understand why some employees left. But we've been saved. Thank you to the investor.

When Henry and I had finished our dinner, I took the food out. We had just walked out of the restaurant when Henry's phone rang, so he moved away from me to answer it. That's why I waited outside quietly for Henry. I couldn't take my eyes off the night sky. Millions of stars are visible in the sky, and the moon is in its second half.

I fixed my gaze on the moon. I'm not sure why I felt nervous in my chest while staring at it, and then my head pricked once more.

*Flashback*

"I thought we'd see the full moon tonight, but the moon is in its half," I said, staring at the half-moon shining above the night sky. My back was touched by a warm body. His arms snaked slowly around my small waist, sniffing my skin as his lips touched my left shoulder. As my feelings for him grew stronger, I swallowed hard.

"I prefer half-moons to full moons, Amara," the man behind me said. I scowled.

"However, full moons are our wolf nights; we go haunting and...we become stronger," I explained.

"When we first met, it was half-moon..."

*End of Flashback*

I tightened my grip on my neck and closed my eyes. What was it? Was it my memory? I dropped my bag as a result of my weakness. I winced because it wasn't the food that I had dropped. I was about to get it when someone got it for me.

"Here…"

"Thank you—" I was about to say something when I heard his voice. I froze in place, staring at the bag he handed me. I quickly looked up, but the man had already begun to walk away. I didn't know why my heart was racing as I stared at his back. He was wearing a hoodie, so it was difficult to tell, but he was tall and his voice was familiar.

My heart was breaking, but I couldn't call him until he was out of sight.

His voice sounded exactly like the one I had just remembered.
