Hearing her words, I didn't tremble, because she was only making assumptions and wasn't sure of her words.

“Are you even okay in the head?” I asked her straight, and her smile fell.

“What do you mean?” she asked, stepping closer in anger, but my left hand stretched out, stopping her midway.

“You don't seem right in the head though! Who welcomes their cousin who has gone missing in such a way...” I said and stepped closer, letting go of Cassidy's hands.

“Or do you perhaps know something I shouldn't? Maybe even orchestrated my disappearance?” I asked, pinning her to the wall. She trembled, avoiding my gaze.

“I would never,” she said, and I chuckled. “Bu—”

“No need to dwell on that today,” I heard Vincent's voice and paused in my actions. I tilted my head to the side, and he came into view. He walked towards me and gently placed his hands on my waist. I felt goosebumps the moment his hands landed on my them.

“Let's eat,” he said softly and pulled me closer towards him. I swallowed a huge lump but kept a composed look on my face. Cassidy held his hand, and Vincent gave her a soft caress on her hair. We walked off. He said nothing throughout the walk, but I felt his eyes telling me to stay away from Sasha for now...

Once we arrived at the table, I gently took my place beside Evelyn, and she gently placed in some smashed eggs and pancakes on my plate. I smiled at her.

“Thank you,” I said and ate softly, chewing and letting the taste linger in my mouth. It tasted heavenly and divine...I ate again, but softly and poised like I always had.

The dining room was silent, and no one dared say a thing, Vincent was busy peeling shrimps for Cassidy and gently placing them onto her plate.

“Thanks,” she said and ate softly...

I smiled, seeing the way she ate happily, but then froze as Sloane's gaze landed on me. Seeing I had caught her, she didn't look away but kept staring. I didn't look away too, I wasn't intimidated. She narrowed her eyes as if trying to figure out something. She looked away at the next minute, and I breathed out a sigh of relief. Looks like even at this dinner I wouldn't eat in peace.

“So Mia...” Evelyn trailed off and gently placed my hands in hers. “How have you been? Where were you all this while? How did you survive?” she asked, gazing at me with motherly eyes that made me almost choke on my meal.

“I really don't want to relive through that. Can I just eat for now?” I said, and she smiled, nodding, but Caspian opened his lips.

“Or perhaps you have no lies to spread,” he said, and Evelyn's eyes darkened.

“Shut your child, Dorian,” she snapped, yet Dorian said no word and continued to eat, trying hard to calm down his raging anger.

“I just have to ask. What if she's an imposter?” he snarled, eyeing me angrily and continued eating.

“Perhaps you just have sent those men that night!” I said, and he froze. The knife that was moving earlier stopped, and he gazed at his meal, not saying a word or replying back.

“Oh, cat got your tongue now?” I said and gently added some more shrimps into Cassidy's plate. “Eat more,” I muttered, and she flashed me a warm smile. Her eyes carried faint suspicion though, but it wavered as she ate.

“What are you hinting at?” he snapped, slamming his hands on the table and standing up. Everyone paused on their meal. I sighed and tore my gaze to him.

“You see? Overreacting,” I said, and he gritted his teeth. “So now you want to lie that I murdered you?” he yelled, and I laughed.

“Murdered? Caspian, I'm right here before you. So how did you murder me?” I asked, and he froze. The realization hit him, and he lowered his finger at me.

“Did you try to harm my daughter?” Evelyn asked coldly, and Caspian turned to her.

“Hurt? If I wanted her dead, she wouldn't be alive,” he snapped and.....

CLASH

The plate in Dorian's hand landed on Caspian's face. It was fast, no one saw it coming except the blood that dropped down from his cheeks.

“Your sister just got back. Be respectful!” he snapped.

I just stared in shock. Earlier he had let him say all those words, and didn't Dorian favor Caspian? Why would he hurt him in such a way...something definitely wasn't right, especially when I had just made up some scenarios and he was already trembling.

I remembered Vincent's words at the car before I arrived at the mansion.

“Someone killed Mia then, so you have to watch your back,” he said, and my lips parted.

“But? Aren't you Mr. Noir? There is nothing you can't obviously find,” I said, and he chuckled.

"Hmmm, if I had a lead, you wouldn't be here. Laura, you are about to enter into the devil's den....be careful” he said.

Caspian didn't say a thing and calmed down instantly. He licked his lips and walked off angrily....I watched him leave and then turn to stare at Dorian, he looked away and that made me know, he was hiding something.

His phone rang, and my eyes lingered on it. His eyes panicked, and he immediately picked it up and walked off instantly.

"It's so early, yet dogs are barking so loudly!" I cursed."How dare you call us dogs?" I heard Carolina say, but I didn't turn and continued eating my meal, they stood up and moved toward me."You brought another gigolo here?" she said, staring at the jacket left on the seat. Oh, I forgot Vincent had left for the restroom earlier, after, they started to trash-talk me."What's wrong if I actually did that?" I asked.Celine folded her hands under her boobs. "You are disgusting, you know that? Countless porn videos of you are out there, and you still dare to hold your head high?" she said.I rolled my eyes. "Oh, I just use makeup to cover my shamelessness?" I asked, clearly targeting their makeup routine, and they gritted their teeth."My father will hear of this!" they snapped at the same time, and I clicked my teeth together. "Geez, cool off with the father stuff. Depending on your fathers as grown adults is pathetic!" I said and looked away. They insisted on causing trouble and actua

"From what I remember, we aren't this close, Mr. Noir!" I said to Vincent, but he retracted his hand, gave me a cold look, and scoffed softly."Where are we headed?" I asked. "Dinner?" he said and I froze on the spot. Weren’t we going to take care of the men Dorian sent? Suddenly dinner now? How and why?"But—""Killing can wait, Mia. You haven’t eaten, you shouldn’t go hungry!" he said and I raised a brow."Mr. Noir, killing can wait? Did you just say that?" I asked in disbelief and burst out laughing. Just thinking he was merely joking with me, I looked away and licked my soft lips when suddenly the car came to a halt...I looked outside. We really were outside a restaurant, I stared at Vincent for a while. Wasn’t he ruthless? Why was he treating me like some queen? It made me smile for a subtle second, but that smile vanished... maybe he only saw me as Mia, my eyes darkened. This special treatment, the way he actually looked out for me was all Mia's, I shouldn't delude myself, ad t

Her eyes sparkled, expecting nothing but cash to be placed in her hands. Instead, my long legs stretched out and I walked over, holding the cash. Her smile faltered."Who are you?" she asked as I walked closer, but I didn't reply.I stared at her wound and immediately held her bruised arm. She hissed instantly, and the crowd went wild."How dare you mishandle a child like that!""Hey!""Let her go!""Someone call the traffic police!"The crowd yelled, but my gaze was only focused on the wound. I sighted an opening and smiled."You were never injured."Everyone froze, including the girl. She stared for a while in panic before bursting into hot tears."It hurts so much!" she cried out, and the crowd moved closer, clearly trying to free her hand from my grip, but..."The car never hit you. You jumped in and fell before it even crashed into you," I said.It wasn't entirely what had happened, just my theory, but I knew it was exactly what happened."I would never do that!" she said and sni

Hearing his words, I took in a final heavy breath and nodded softly. He took my left hand and gently caressed it. "You are becoming fragile!" he said.I looked up at him, "I don't have any weakness!" I spat back, but he chuckled. His gaze met mine and my heart skipped a beat in panic.Would he see the fear in my eyes?"If Christian walked up to you again and said hello, would you greet him properly?" he asked.I froze at the sudden question....If I knew the answer already, I would die before he even continued, I retracted my hand, but he held it back."It will take time. You shouldn't meet up with him for now," he said, and I nodded softly."Thank you!" I said, he looked up and raised a brow."For what?" he asked, and I sniffed. "For giving me a second chance. If I died, everyone would have gone scot-free, including those who hurt me and landed me right here!" I said.He chuckled. "Don't thank me. I would do the same for anyone!" he said.I laughed at his words."The Almighty Vincen

Everyone was finally leaving the office, but my phone had been buzzing nonstop. Dorian doesn't want to give up, does he? I stared at the pop-up message and rolled my eyes."Why are you doing this?" Sighting the message, I couldn't help but sigh. I scrolled to the bottom and pressed the block button..Just then, Vincent's call came through."Hello!" I said, watching as Florida packed my stuff into my bag, and handed it to me."See you tomorrow, Miss!" she said, and I nodded, walking out of the room."I'll be there by seven. You don't rea—" I froze at the sight before me, a Lamborghini was parked in front of my building! Huh?I stared in total shock and the window rolled down slowly. Vincent came into view! He came personally? Wasn't he a workaholic and always busy with schedules?I didn't even like him then it be honest. He was always with Mia and protected the lousy bitch. Plus, he declined a very fantastic contract I badly wanted to sign with him. It pissed me off, especially when I h

Linda begged."It's really not our fault! We had to do it! Situations happen!" they pleaded, but my eyes remained closed.Once the door closed shut, a shareholder spoke up."How do we deal with three billion in debts already? We have lost a lot!" he snapped.Another spoke. "It's all because of you. You disappeared and left the company in no reasonable person's hands!" he snapped.I simply rolled my eyes because the very person who had sent him to say those foolish words was Dorian.I had noticed the way his lips twitched earlier, I should play along then."Yes, I totally agree with him!"Another chimed in, and I rolled my eyes once more, making the elders freeze."Ill-mannered! You don't deserve to be the CEO. Let's vote for someone worthy!" the fifth shareholder said and t
