LOGINMy mum didn't say a word, crying her eyes out, but Xena stepped forward. “Killed? I wouldn't do that to my sister, and neither would my mum do that to her. If we killed her, would she have even left two houses in our names? We would have gotten nothing!” she screamed back, and the crowd stopped. She glared at them and continued, “I just lost my sister, how dare you do this to the deceased's family? If it was you, how would you feel?” she barked, bursting into hot tears. Hearing her say those words made my heart ache.
I always fought with Xena because she never liked Christian. She would always tell me how he gave off a weird kind of aura, how he irritated her, and how he was too close with his ex. Even when she provided photos, I never believed her...I should have cut everything off then. I should have ended it all. Instead, the one dead was me, and I left them grieving.
“The someone you all should suspect is Christian. He got everything. Isn't that suspicious?” she yelled, and Christian, at a corner, eyes widened in shock and confusion. Clearly, he was faking it. I scoffed as he walked closer.
“I earned that fair and square because she trusted me!” he said, making sure he dragged out “trusted.” He wanted the crowd to tag it as her trying to push the blame to him to avoid suspicion.
“See, she's trying to push it onto him. You killed your sister. The police should arrest you first!” the same girl from earlier yelled and raised her hand to toss another egg, but one look from Xena and she dared not.
“Mum, let's go,” Xena said, holding my trembling mum as they walked out.
They must be devastated, I thought and wiped the tears that had escaped my eyes. I will make sure to reveal everything to the media, the paparazzi, who Christian really was! Hmm, he did say he also scammed other women. So right now? How many women like me actually fell victim? That aside for now, I stared back at the folder. At the last page there was a contract. Vincent had signed already, only mine was needed.
“Hereby Party A and Party B agree to sign a contractual agreement....” I read through the first paragraph.
“Rule one: Never disclose who you really are to neither family nor friends.”
“Rule 2: You are not allowed to become close friends with Mia's associates. They know how she behaved, her preferences, even small traces will end everything.”
“Rule 3: Protect Mia's fortune.”
“Rule 4: Never fall in love during these terms.”
Seeing the last rule, I sneered. After everything that happened to me? I had decided not to fall for any man, just focus on myself and my family. I read through every detail again. I didn't want to get ripped off like how Christian took my inheritance. I never gave them to him. He used love and other strategies to make me put everything in his name, especially after causing a rift between my family and me. After signing, I laid on the bed and closed my eyes, breathing calmly.
The door pushed open, and my eyes snapped open. A nurse walked in. “Good afternoon, Miss Mia,” she said softly, and I sat upright.
“Mr. Noir hopes you get changed instantly,” she said and set aside a clean outfit. Staring at it, they were extravagant and clearly Mia's style.
I nodded simply but paused as it dawned on me. As soon as she was about to leave, my lips parted. “What about the bandages?”
I waited roughly twenty minutes, and the doctor from earlier walked in, just as broad as Vincent was, but with a calmer face.
“Sister-in-law,” he said, and I raised a brow...what the f*ck did he mean? Or perhaps he was pretending because the nurses were around. After all, no one was to be trusted. Anyone could snitch if they heard him call me a different name.
I tried to flash a warm smile, but the bandages stopped me, and I didn't stress it. I sat down and gently moved closer as he began to unwrap the bandages. Vincent walked in later, his hands inside his pockets and his cold eyes glued to me. I didn't shiver because I was a queen at giving the same aura...
By the time the bandage finally fell off, I just stood there, glancing between the two men and the maids.
“What is happening?” I thought and reached out my hands, gesturing for a mirror. A nurse rushed to me, and I gazed down at it, staring as my eyes widened in shock, but I immediately replaced it with a smile...I looked exactly like Mia. Wasn't my face completely destroyed? How was the plastic surgeon able to achieve this?
“Welcome back, Mia,” Vincent said, and I snapped out of my fascination.
“It's been so long,” I replied. “You grew...in a different way,” I said, and I swore a satisfied smirk lay on his lips for a split second, but then he dismissed it.
“Leave,” he said. I felt my body tremble at his words, even the nurses' eyes flew wide in horror, and they rushed out...
Once they were gone, I dropped the act and rushed to the large mirror by the corner of the room. I placed my hands on my face, gently running them through the smooth surface. I smiled, and it looked so natural, no sight of plastic surgery...the surgeon did well, I thought and turned to him.
“You were actually convincing,” the doctor said and stretched out his hands for a shake. “I'm Liam,” he said. I stared at it for a while and gently shook it. He smiled and looked over his shoulder, winking at Vincent, but Vincent's eyes grew darker.
“Wink at me again and those eyeballs of yours will be gone.”
Liam paused and looked away, but on landing his gaze on me, he smiled.
“Spa treatment?” he asked, and I raised a brow in confusion till my gaze landed on my hand.
“Oh, spa,” I said, and he smiled, his lips parting, but Vincent cut in.
“Get the bandages off your body and get changed.” He looked at his watch and turned back to me. “We leave in 45 minutes,” he said, and I nodded.
I took the clothes off the table and rushed into the bathroom. I even turned on the shower, letting the water cool my burning skin...I closed my eyes, feeling the melting sensation and shivered. Thankfully, the water was chilled and cold, so I felt no pain. I breathed softly and gently walked out, got dressed in the black bodycon, added a tank top on, and paired it with high heels...
Once I walked out, Vincent and Liam's gazes were fixed on me.
Liam smiled and said, “Welcome home, Mia!”
Christian gritted his teeth in anger as he heard my very words. "You bitch," he cursed. My blood still felt boiling hot. I rolled my eyes and turned to the muscular men, giving them a nod. "Teach him a lesson he won't forget."Christian's face twisted in fear and malice. He started screaming at me. "I paid you fifteen million! You are being so cruel and evil! How can you do this to me? Blackmailing me will be your end!"I ignored every word, as he sounded like a child throwing a fit. I turned to Vincent instead, dragging his sleeve gently. "Let's leave him here. I don't want to hear his shameless whining."I paused and turned to Christian, making sure my voice was very loud. "You wouldn't be here if you hadn't murdered someone. Tsk. Don't blame your situation on me."The men moved in to grab him, but Christian slipped something out of his sleeve. A dagger flashed in his hand.He rushed straight toward me. My eyes widened. I didn't see it coming at all. My body froze in shock, and the
"What the fuck is happening?" he barked, looking around, and I held Vincent's arm."Wouldn't he see our faces?" I asked. I didn't want him to know it was me yet."He can't see a thing," Vincent said, and I sighed in relief."Please get me down!" he begged, and I snapped back to reality. A grin slowly curled to my lips and I couldn't help but squeeze Vincent's arm tighter. He stared at my hands and my eyes widened."I'm sorry," I said, ready to let go, but he placed my hands back on his arm. "Your hands are warm," he said, and I just gazed at him... He really can be this cheesy? I never knew. The almighty Mr. Noir can be so good-hearted. The thought alone made me chuckle."Help!" Christian's voice snapped me back to reality, and a dark chuckle escaped from my lips."Who's that?" he yelled, and I cleared my throat."You delayed sending the other five million; besides, I didn't say your life would be this good during that time," I added, and he gritted his teeth."This is against the law
"We are done," Vincent said and looked up at me. I choked, and Silvia immediately passed me a cup of water. I gulped it down at once and gave him the "What the fuck" look and stared down at my bowl; I hadn't even had much and he was already dragging me out. "Not fair," I brought and stood up, still feeling grumpy inside. "Thank you for the meal," I said, and Silvia nodded, and returned a bright smile. I turned to Mrs. Chen and said bye; she did the same. "You guys are a cute couple," she said and I froze. Couple? "No, we aren't da—" I didn't finish my words and Vincent's hands rested on my waist, pulling me closer. I sucked down on my bottom lip and nodded. As he led me outside I shifted away but he dragged me back. "If you run I will be tempted to carry you, how would that feel?" he teased and I gritted my teeth softly. "You are harassing me and abusing your power!" I said and he chuckled. "Abuse? This isn't abuse, Laura," he said and my breath hitched. He just calls my name
I gently placed her hand on the pillow, and Silvia walked towards me."Thank you. I was so worried about where she had gone," she said, and I lifted my gaze, staring at my mum."She's very much fine," I said, and she smiled, then gently walked towards me. Her hands rested on my hair."Thank you for looking out for her," she mumbled, and I froze. Her touch felt like home, warm and welcoming. I missed this."Look out?" I mumbled, and she nodded."Whenever Xena gets into trouble, you are always there. If you don't look out for her, then perhaps you are her guardian angel," she complimented, and a chuckle escaped my lips."I'm just doing what anyone would do," I said, and she clicked her tongue."Others wouldn't," she mumbled and gently caressed my hair."You are such a blessing, child, Mia," she said, making me sigh."I had a bad relationship with Laura. Aren't you going to hold that against me? And I totally understand if you do. I wasn't much of a friend to her," I said, stood up, and
"It's fine," she said, and I nodded. I could feel my eyes already red; finally, I stopped crying and she let me go."Mum, cut your cake and make a wish," Cassidy said softly and placed her hands in mine. I stared down at her and nodded.I walked to the chair, sat down, and placed my hands together. I closed my eyes and all I could think of was: I pray we all get our happy ending. I said it softly and opened my eyes, blowing the fire off the candle."Everyone, come have a piece! Let the maids have a taste too," I said, and Evelyn nodded. The maids walked forward; shock still lingered on their eyes. They couldn't believe the notorious Mia was actually letting that happen. My gaze landed on Vincent; he just stared, and after having a bite, I took a piece to him."Taste it," I said. He stared at the cake and raised a brow."I should?" he asked, but I nodded positively. He didn't; instead, a smile curled to his lips."Beg me, and I might," he said. His face was inches away from mine; even
"Now it's steak pasta," Cassidy said, and immediately Sloane walked out holding the steak; she placed it on the table."I made it, FYI I'm a bad cook and it's a little burnt," she said, flashing a small smile that made my tummy churn."Can I get something edible, please?" I begged as my gaze landed on the heap of pasta and steak. The steak outside was clearly burnt beyond recognition, but the inside looked more raw than anything, and the pasta looked so sluggish and soaked with whatever she had spiced in there."No, you have to have a bite at least. I made it with so much love!" she whispered into my ear, and I choked on nothing."Okay," I said and softly pinched her cheeks. She just stared at me and a smile curled to her lips."I love you, sister," she whispered into my ear, and I chuckled.I hesitantly took the fork and knife, staring at the food; I swallowed hard."Here I go," I said and immediately took a bite of the pasta. It tasted salty and cheesy. I swallowed it hard, but I fe
Hearing her words, I didn't tremble, because she was only making assumptions and wasn't sure of her words.“Are you even okay in the head?” I asked her straight, and her smile fell.“What do you mean?” she asked, stepping closer in anger, but my left hand stretched out, stopping her midway.“You do
The camera flashes all settled on my face, yet I kept a calm look on.“Miss Mia, what happened all those years?”“Were you kidnapped, taken abroad to become a prostitute?”“Or did you run away with a man? What happened to the car you drove last?” Every reporter kept placing the mic next to my lips,
I could feel myself being carried in his arms. “Don't fall asleep, listen to my voice,” his bold, warm voice came, and I groaned. My skin burned. I wanted to voice out, but nothing came out from my throat except a sharp pain.My lashes fluttered and slowly began to close....the next second, I could
LAURA'S POV"I didn't expect this place at all," I said, forcing a smile."Well, anything for you, my love," Christian said. I looked down and gently cut the meat into pieces, but stiffened as I felt his intense gaze on me."Is anything wrong?" I asked, raising my head to stare at him, and he shook
