“I’m full,” I said, and Evelyn gently rested her hand on my hair.

“I hope Caspian didn’t disrupt your appetite?” she asked, and I forced a smile. “Definitely not!” I replied.

Evelyn didn’t push further and let me go. As I walked off, the smile on my face darkened. I slammed the door shut and stared around the room. It was a gigantic room, and had a slightly eerie, unsettling feeling, Mia's vibe.

I sucked in a breath and gently took off my shoes. I glanced at the documents on the desk and walked towards it. I should get familiar with everything. Tomorrow, I would go and check out the company.

My hands settled on the first document, a clear rundown of the company’s finances. I flipped through the pages, scanning everything. It looked normal until I saw that. Something felt off.

“A huge transfer of about one billion… and to a shipping company?” I thought and sneered. I checked the name underneath and Dorian appeared.

My eyes darkened.

One billion for what EXACTLY? Since Mia went missing, had he been embezzling funds into his own company or perhaps a fake one? Also the people who actually wanted Mia were surely those who would gain everything, but Dorian… he didn’t seem like much of a suspect.

KNOCK KNOCK

I dropped the document as the knock came. I stared at the door. The serious look I had was replaced with a forced smile. I walked over and opened it softly.

Sloane? What was she doing here this night?

“Hi,” she said softly, but I didn’t reply. My lips stayed glued together as I just stared at her: her eyelids, her lips, everything, searching for any hint of something. I wanted to read her body language, but she gave nothing away.

“Can I come in?” she asked.

I snapped back to reality and my smile widened.

“Sure!” I said, and she stepped in.

Her eyes scanned the room and then landed on the document still open on the desk.

“So, eager to get back to the company,” she said softly.

I chuckled. “I have to. A lot seems to be going on at the company. Did you know?” I asked, folding my hands under my chest.

"For a second, I suspected you weren’t Mia, but right now I have little doubts. Mia would surely check the company on the first day. So this confirms you… for now,” she said.

“Don’t call me Mia like I’m someone else. I’m standing right in front of you.”

She paused for a second, while I just stared at her, not adding another word.

Sloane was also a billionaire, but she focused more on the entertainment industry. Unlike Mia, she was gentle, but she could also be cold when needed, especially when it came to Cassidy.

“You’re still mad about it, aren’t you?” I asked, changing the subject.

“About what?” she asked.

“That I neglected my own child for years,” I said, stacking the documents, but secretly watching her reaction.

Her lips trembled slightly, and her eyes turned cold. She chuckled lowly. “So you do know. You treated her badly, Mia.”

“That’s in the past,” I replied, and she gritted her teeth.

Of course I knew. Mia was ruthless, not only did she sabotage parties, she slept with multiple socialite men and even bragged about it. She ruined contracts and made wealthy families go bankrupt with a snap of her fingers. Who wouldn’t want her dead? Even I couldn’t stand that woman… and she did worse to her own child. It was a miracle the girl still loved her and still craved her attention. Really, anyone would want to kill Mia. That’s why I had to find her killer, and survive being her.

“I am aware of my past. I’m trying to do it right now,” I said.

Sloane gave me a look that clearly said 'what the hell..'

“I don’t care whatever show you are putting on for Cassidy, but if you dare hurt her or go back on your words, I will slash you in two. Don’t dare hurt her. She has been without a mum for too long,” she said, then walked to the door.

“Sloane!” I called softly.

She stopped but didn’t turn

“I love my child,” I said.

She scoffed. “Sure you do,” she muttered and opened the door.

“Have you found anything suspicious in the company lately?” I asked directly.

She froze. She didn’t turn. Didn’t speak. For what felt like forever. “Mia! A lot is going on in your company! And how would I know?” she snapped, then left.

A smile curved on my lips. That hesitation… that was my answer. She definitely knew something, but that was for tomorrow!

I collapsed onto the bed, letting the soft cushion hug my stiff body. It’s just been a day here, and I already feel like my life is about to end. Being Mia is stressful and hectic.

My eyes began to droop softly, but then a knock snapped me back to reality.

I stared at the ceiling for a second before blinking.

Was it Vincent? Why didn’t he just come in?

“It’s open,” I said, and the door creaked open,i froze in shock for a second.

Why was she here?

“Cassidy?” I blurted out, sitting up on the bed. “What happened?” I asked as she gently tucked her hair nervously.

“Can I sleep here?” she asked.

I stiffened. “Sure, you’re welcome, love,” I said, and her nervous expression turned into a smile. She rushed toward me and hugged me.

“Thank you, Mum,” she said, and I couldn’t help but smile...a genuine one. After all, a child is surely a blessing.

I pulled away from the hug and held her hands. She was eleven now. I had prepared a gift before coming.

I reached for the drawer and brought out a box. “Open it,” I said, stretching it toward her.

She stared eagerly at it but didn’t take it. Her gaze was fixed on my hand.

“Mom… didn’t you have a mole on your left hand? Where did it go?”

Another officer from behind took the gun from the woman and led her back to her ward.“She’s dead,” the doctor said and used her finger to shut Mina’s eyes closed.“Was she a patient here?” the doctor asked and looked at the officer. “I haven’t seen her here, or perhaps it’s because I’m mostly indoors in my office,” she said, and the officer crouched down.“She was brought here. Her trial was supposed to be in a week. She deserved it, I guess. She had killed so many women and even stabbed a patient here!” she said, and the doctor’s eyes darkened.“Yeah, I saw her everywhere in the news,” she said and stood up.“Well, inform her family to take her body away,” the doctor said, and the officer nodded. As they walked off, another team covered Mina’s body with a white duvet.***********Celeste was on the beach. “I said I didn’t do anything!” Mina screamed, tossing around as the police officer tied her down with handcuffs.“Take this off me! I’m not a killer. I didn’t do anything!” She screamed at the top of her lungs.“Stay down,” the officer said as another doctor rushed to the patient covered in blood on the ground. Earlier, the patient had been ranting at Mina, and she had picked up a fork and stabbed the female in the eyes.“If she dies, you will really die in jail. Was being sent here not good enough to get your brain back on track?” the officer asked, and this only made her grit her teeth.“She kept talking, she was banging in my ear. How the hell is that my fault? How the hell?” she screamed at the top of her lungs, and then used all her strength to push the police officer off her. As the officer landed on the ground, she chuckled, laughing like a maniac.“Take her, lock her in the steel,” the head guard said, walking in as she shoved Min

"Chocolate factory, huh?" he said. "You really want sugar that bad?""Yes," I answered too fast. "I want to taste everything they have."He smiled a little, but his eyes still searched my face. I hated how easily he could read me.I looked down at the water, not daring to meet his gaze.Vincent lifted one hand and brushed a strand of hair from my cheek. "You're quiet," he said."I'm just thinking about the chocolate," I lied.Vincent didn't call me out. He only nodded and leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to the side of my head. My eyes closed for a second. It felt safe."Alright," he murmured. "We'll go. But first, we finish here."He reached for the small bottle of bath soap on the edge and poured some into his palm. The scent of orchid and vanilla filled the air. Then his hands were on my shoulders, slowly and carefully rubbing the soap across my skin. I stayed still. Part of me wanted to lean into him, the other just wanted to hear "I love you."His fingers moved down my arms, then

"I don't know how i got that on me," I blurted out, and he chuckled."Really?" He asked, and a small nervous smile curled to my lips. "We shouldn't be focused on this, aren't we focused on celebrating Christian's death?" I asked, and he nodded, then pointed at the bathtub. I walked towards it, but my cheeks were all flushed.God, how did I wear mismatched underwear?" I cursed in my mind, and sucked down on my bottom lip, but as my toe touched the water, I flinched."It's cold," I muttered, but then I felt Vincent's hands on my waist."Wait, don'-" I didn't finish my words, and he pushed me straight into the water. My hair was all wet now."It's not that cold!" He said, stepping in, but froze on sighting my death glare."Why did you have to push me?" I asked, with tears and anger lingering in my face."Hey, don't cry," he said and jumped in. The water splashed, but he didn't care about it. He held my elbows, and gently his left hand parted the strands of hair on my face."I didn't mean

"The beach is so cool," I muttered, burying my legs in the sand. "Hmm," Vincent said, and I curled my toes, watching as some couple ran and chased after each other."This really is peaceful," I muttered again, and then I felt his hands at the back of my head, gently caressing."Aren't you hungry? You barely ate inside," he said, and I pouted. "Do you want to make me fatter?" I asked and sneered. This only made him chuckle."Of course, I need you fattened up. Only then can I feel you aren't as thin as a skeleton," he said, and this made a smile curl to my lips, but something else caught my attention. It was a male and a female making out in public, their lips entwined, and he was possessively holding her waist. My cheeks reddened, and I looked away as Vincent caught my gaze."Do you want to do that?" He asked, and my lips parted to actually girl complains at him and call it just a public show of affection, but then nothing escaped from my lips.I gently looked away and licked my lips,

"Laura, I love you," I heard him whisper into my ear, and everything went silent..."Huh?" I asked, turning to gaze at him. "What did you say?" I asked and he chuckled."I said something?" He asked and I blinked my lashes, staring at him in confusion. I heard him just now? Or were those my thoughts? My ears reddened in embarrassment and I looked away."I keep hearing things today," I mumbled and he choked, hugging me tighter. I sure stared out, letting the cold breeze hit my face.Truly, if a man did love you, he would go to any length to show this! I never mentioned that to Vincent, yet he found out on his own."Hmm, let's eat, that's enough city viewing for today," he said and I nodded and pulled away from the hug, rushing to the room."What did you order?" I asked and the door dinged. I stared at it and couldn't help but squirm happily. I opened the door and the same female that welcomed us bowed down.
