Chapter 135

Layla’s eyes widened when she felt a piercing pain going through her chest. She subconsciously pushed Zev away and propped herself up. The flames surrounding them which weren’t there a few moments ago reminded her of a past she thought she’d long forgotten. She grabbed the satin cloth she put aside earlier and slid inside it. Layla tried to be calm despite the disturbing heat caused by the fire.

“Zev, let’s get out of here,” she said and pulled the man up, dragging him with all her strength. “I don’t know what’s going on, but we need to leave,” Layla added in utter panic. Her eyes kept wandering around, looking for a way out. The trees and bushes nearby kept burning, and the only place left unaffected was the stream.
