The lights in the room were blinding.

I calmly folded the last of my shirts to pack into the luggage when the door opened. Jonah Gregor’s tall figure appeared, and his hand paused halfway through loosening his tie when he saw the luggage on the floor.

“You are home early. Have you eaten?” Jonah sounded natural, as if he had not thrown our mate ring into another woman’s hands only hours earlier.

I felt tears rising, but I held them back and continued packing.

Jonah was doing it again. He pretended nothing had happened, the same way he did after every argument. Each time, he coaxed me gently, bought me gifts, or held me from behind at night, and I always gave in. I always let the argument fade away.

I felt too exhausted tonight. I no longer had the strength to fight for us. “Did your wonderful secretary, Sapphire Kane, tell you what I said?” I did not look at him.

Jonah’s face darkened. “You brought Sapphire into the Werewolf Council, Jade, and now you act like she is the enemy. Who are you really angry at?”

A bitter laugh almost escaped me. He was right. I had brought Sapphire into our world because both of us came from a small pack in a remote area.

We came from a forgotten territory deep in the Northern forest. Before I left, the Alpha of our pack, the Sovereign Moon Pack, pulled me aside. “Take care of her. Werewolves like us need to help each other for a better life.”

That was why I brought Sapphire into the Werewolf Council when she could not find a job after graduation. I taught her every rule and did everything I could to protect her. She had been quiet, sweet, and grateful, and I never noticed how her gaze followed Jonah whenever he entered a room.

To be honest, a man like Jonah drew attention everywhere. He was a powerful Alpha, the chairman of the Mainland Werewolf Council, and an investment tycoon with a net worth in the billions.

Many women in the city watched him, but he never looked at them. That was why I thought Sapphire’s crush was harmless, and I ignored it. This continued until that meeting.

Sapphire made a careless mistake that almost caused a massive loss, and I gave her a verbal warning according to Council rules. I was not harsh, and my tone was not malicious, but Sapphire started crying as if I had humiliated her.

Jonah lost his temper and yelled at me in front of everyone. “That is enough, Jade. Sapphire is a young Werewolf who just left her small pack. Do you need to be so harsh?”

His words cut through me, and I held back my tears. “Her mistake means all of us must work overtime until midnight for the next three days.”

Jonah only gave a careless laugh. He acted as if the loss of millions and the extra work meant nothing. He looked around the room at the Council members. “Are all of you planning to gang up on Sapphire? Fine. From today onward, Sapphire will work in my office as my private secretary. She will report to me directly.

“Anyone who gives her trouble should resign from the Council.”

He left the room without looking back, and Sapphire ran after him with admiration in her eyes.

I blinked hard to push the memory away.

Jonah stood beside my luggage and stared at me with a cold expression. I did not know when it started, but as time passed, he stopped caring about my feelings. Every conversation became a battle he wanted to win. The Werewolf who once postponed meetings to stay with me and promised never to make me cry no longer existed.

My phone lit up. [Your flight details have been confirmed. Your flight to Sovereign Moon Territory will be three days later at 6.10 am.]

I stared at the screen for a long moment before standing to face Jonah. “You are right, Jonah. I made a fuss over nothing and asked too much from you.” My heart felt like it was breaking, but I forced myself to continue. “You will not need to tolerate any of this anymore.”

Jonah froze. A frantic look flashed in his eyes. He had expected anger, but I only admitted my mistakes.

Silence filled the room. Jonah pulled off his tie and spoke in a cold voice. “Do whatever you want.”

He slammed the door as he left our condo and did not return that night.

A year later, Sovereign Moon Pack went through a complete change.Fenton and I planned to recruit popular influencers to promote our pack and attract more werewolves to trade or settle here. When I went to welcome visitors at the border, I saw Jonah. His clothes were rumpled, and he looked exhausted. I had not seen him in a year, but I knew what happened to him and Sapphire because Layla often joked about them over the phone. After Jonah was removed as chairman, Sapphire tried to run away because he had lost his power and money. Jonah caught her and vented all his anger on her. He yelled at her for being a liar who ruined his life.Sapphire did not hold back. She taunted him. “You were the one who wanted to act like the good guy and take my side. Why blame me when you wanted to flaunt your power?”They broke up after a huge argument and never saw each other again. The last news about Sapphire was that she found a job in a large company in the city. She made a major mistake within

My plane landed safely on the borders of Sovereign Moon Pack. I had applied to work from home, and I spotted the werewolf the Alpha sent to pick me up the moment I stepped outside. It was Fenton Luvan.Fenton and I grew up together. We were the only two werewolves from our pack who earned places in Central City schools. We learned to hunt together in the snow when we were young, and when we started school far from home, he always walked ahead with a flashlight to guide the way. We eventually lost touch after attending schools in different districts. We had now returned to the pack after facing many challenges, and it felt like we were children again.Fenton looked sharp in a windbreaker, and he waved the moment he saw me. I did not hold back as I pushed my heavy luggage into his hands. “Are you back because you are also of age for the Moonpick Ceremony?”He took my luggage with ease and dodged my fist when I tried to punch his shoulder. “I have to be here. My dad would run to Centr

Jonah looked at my calm expression, and a flicker of panic crossed his eyes. He quickly hid it. “Stop being stubborn, Jade.” His tone softened. “I know you are upset. You should return to your pack to calm down. I will come for you after I finish my work, and we will continue our mate bond ceremony. After that, we will let everything go.”I sat quietly and watched him. “Why are you so sure I will allow you to order me around, Jonah?”He frowned, and his voice turned sharp. “Do you not know how to reflect on your behavior? If you were as obedient as Sapphire, I would not have used this method to teach you a lesson. A woman should not act like a shrew. You will only lose.”The office door flew open with a violent kick. “Keep your disgusting, misogynistic words to yourself, Jonah Gregor.”Layla’s heels clicked across the floor as she entered with several bodyguards behind her. She was the leader of another powerful organization in Central City and my closest friend. Layla sneered and

Jonah and Sapphire started laughing wildly, as if they had heard a great joke.Sapphire waved my resignation letter in my face with pride, as if she wanted to remind me that I had handed over my core duties and walked away with nothing. She acted as if I were still living in a dream.Jonah looked at me with a mix of pity and annoyance. “There should be a limit to your actions, Jade. If word gets out, how can you still be my legitimate mate?”He still believed I was throwing a tantrum. He spoke as if I would become a weak, lone female wolf after losing my position in the Werewolf Council, and I would come crawling back to him to become his personal side piece.I was never meant to be anyone’s side piece. I was an orphan of the Sovereign Moon Pack, raised by my grandmother, who spoon‑fed me milk in the snowy forest deep in the North. When I was ten, I hunted low‑level prey in the snow. I skinned them for fur and sold the fur at the market to earn a small income for our household. La

Jonah’s dignity might have been hurt from having his orders ignored, or he might have grown tired of pretending. He began taking Sapphire’s side more openly than before.Sapphire became his preferred date for commercial dinner events, and he even gave her the bonus that should have been awarded to me for my hard work.Jonah’s constant protection fed Sapphire’s arrogance, which grew rapidly at work. She started ordering department heads around and approving documents she had no authority to approve. She even barged into a high‑level meeting once while claiming she was Jonah’s mate. The assistant came to me often to vent her frustrations, but I always gave her the same answer. “Do not worry.”I meant it because I would be on a plane in a few days.My indifference to everything only fueled Sapphire’s anger. One afternoon, she finally snapped. She slammed my office door open. “Jonah already told you to go home and reflect on what happened.” Her shrill voice hurt my ears and made her

That afternoon, my best friend, Layla, dragged me out for a farewell drink. As she raised her glass to congratulate me for finally leaving a rotten relationship, my phone vibrated. It was a call from the Council’s assistant.“You need to get back to the office, Jade. Right now.”I grabbed my coat and placed a stack of cash on the table. Layla did not ask anything. She only held my arm for a moment before saying, “Go ahead.”When I arrived at the Council, I saw many entry‑level employees crowding the corridor outside my office. They stepped aside to let me through, and their silence felt like a funeral procession.Sapphire stood at the door giving loud instructions. My files, which held years of research, negotiation results, and contracts I had worked hard on, were scattered across the floor like trash. Two muscled men struggled to move my office table toward the elevator.“Stop.” I walked quickly toward the door and stared at Sapphire. “Who gave you the authority to touch my thin
