Chapter six

The sun woke me. A stream of light that hit me right in the eyeball.

Rude!

I yanked the covers over my head, burrowing, but flashes from the night before made it impossible to return to sleep. I pulled the blanket off my face. Squinted at the clock. It was too early to be getting up on a Sunday.

But whatever.

I slid my legs off the edge of my bed. Rubbed my eyes, stretched, and yawned.

I wore my flip-flops and staggered into my bathroom. As I brushed my teeth to relieve my breath of the ick, the event that happened last night came flashing back. I stared at my ankle which doesn't seem to hurt anyone.

"Why am I just clumsy" I muttered lifting my pajamas, to have a look at my knee. It was as red as a ripe tomato.

"You woke up early today," mum said as she whisked a bowl of egg. That's just her problem, sometimes I wonder what was with her and egg! If not scrambled eggs it would be fried egg or omelet with sauce. We ate that almost every morning.

"I know" I mumbled audibly handing her a tin of pepper. " What about we have the chicken soup" I protested, eyeing the whisked egg.

"That would be for lunch and by the way, the doctor insists you eat more protein"

I turned my gaze at her. "Why egg?" I groaned.

"Didn't you observe you are shrinking, only God knows what you ate when I was away" she blurted, making me roll my eyes?

"I ate chicken soup mum!"

"Exactly, chicken soup every day!" She glared at me making me giggle. "Go set the table" She ordered."Yeah sure," I chuckled.

Am not a tall person, and not short either. Am more of a 5'5 in height, same as a mum. I have more resemblance to my mother than my father but possessed the same hair color. While my little brother, on the contrary, was a pure replica of dad.

"I thought we were having apple pie for breakfast" Dad complained with a pouted lip. "I don't want to eat this" He snorted, folding his hands. Tony giggled.

"Yours is different, you will be having cereals, that's why you find it funny" Dad mumbled grumpily.

"I kind of wish it was Chicken Soup" I groaned glaring at the plate of omelet.

"No way" He shook his head. "Chicken Salad is more like it"

"Or grilled cheese" We chorus and hummed in unions.

"But you would be having an omelet! How bad" She slurred with a grin. Dad rolled his eyes."It's been a while we had grilled cheese, what about we have it for lunch" Dad protests.

"Sound nice, with chicken soup for dinner" She shrugged.

"Great" I grinned.

"That would be after coming back from the hospital," Mum said sparing me a gaze. My shoulder dropped. Can't believe she is still on that.

"Double great" I mumbled with a frown.

"She sprained her ankle that's all, it's just a minor injury"

"And her knees?" Mum asked, she looked worried. The doctor stared at me.

"Do you feel pain whenever you walk?". He asked.

"Yes, slightly ".

He used his index finger to poke my injured knee. I groaned. Yanking my leg off.

"Thought you said slightly" He chuckled. "I will prescribe some drugs for her, with time I think she will be back on her feet". He said to my mum.

"How bad is the knee?" She asked curiously.

"Fracture!" He said. Mum raised her brow. "She fractured her knee and with the look of it" He took a quick glimpse at my knee before returning his gaze to my mum. "It must hurt a lot, you can tell with the bruise and tenderness around the knee"

"How bad does it hurt?"

Mr. Edward widened his eyes at mum's statement and chuckled. "You should ask your daughter, she is the one with a fractured knee," He said with a laugh.

Mum let out an embarrassing grin. "Yea...you have a point," She said, plugging her blond heir across her ears before asking for the prescription.

Mr. Edward had been our family doctor for decades. He has strands of grey hair which was due to his age and had always adored sharing random jokes. When I said random, I meant not "funny jokes!" We do laugh anyway, not wanting to hurt his feelings.

"So about your health?" He paused and stared at me. " I hope you followed my prescription."

I nodded and he smiled. "That's great, alright then, goodbye."

The drive home was quiet and peaceful, we did drop at a shop to get more groceries before heading home. Mum had always been the conscious type. Disdained running out of groceries. I think am more of my dad in character like we both are foodies and reckless. Not the best way to describe your dad right? Well, the truth hurts. I think it's runs in the family, both my Aunties and uncles are just like dad. Not like it's surprising thou, our surname was Klutz for a reason.

When we got home I plodded into my room. Picked up my cell phone and listened to music. I played my favorite blue song as I laid down the wide spacious bed.

"If a fractured knee can hurt this much I wonder how Ace felt when he broke his leg," I thought with a sigh. Ace is one of the most popular boys in school, in other words, my worst nightmare. He have been away from school when he broke a leg well playing hockey for our school and had been hospitalized ever since. I know it's mean of me but I wish he never recovers, school have been nothing but great with out him.

I stared at the ceiling, lost in thought when the door cracked open. I craned my neck towards the door to spot my dad peeping in.

"Was I supposed to knock?" He asked, grinning.

"That would be if you were someone else," I told him.

"Come down to my room, that would be if you want to play chess" He smirked.

"Come on! I had and will always win, can't you just give up" I said with a grin.

"Don't be too sure, I had some extra lessons when I was away" He said walking in. "And we should begin before your mother comes back from the mall"

"She went shopping?" I asked and he nodded.

"And Tony is fast asleep" He continued.

"Great!" I mumbled as I trailed behind him into their room.

Mum had always hated the fact I played chess. She deduced it was a "Guy Thing". While my dad on the contrary loves to challenge me since I was extremely good with it. Not like am perfect or something! It's just that I was very challenging.

Dad let out a loud groan as he rubbed his palm on his forehead. "Can't believe I lost!" He grouched.

"Don't feel too bad about it" I advised with a shrug. "It was obvious I was going to win" I added standing up.

"What about we..." Dad was interrupted by a noise coming from outside.

"Mum is back!"

Dad ran to hide the chess while I quickly fled into my room. I laid down flat breathing heavily as I giggled.

My family is just the best.
