Marrying the Wrong Person

Shane looked at Valeria and stretched out his hand.

Valeria looked at him with confusion, not sure what he meant.

Shane shook her hand and said, "What's the matter? Have you forgotten? We're already married!"

Valeria hesitated for a moment, then placed her small hand in his large palm.

It wasn't her first time holding hands with a man, but it felt like a sensation that could last a lifetime.

Shane tightened his grip, fingers interlocking with hers, leading her to a Volkswagen car.

Valeria glanced at Shane, forming a better impression of him.

Shane opened the car door for her, then got in himself.

Before starting the car, there was a moment of silence.

Except for that period of dating, she had never been so close to a man, making her feel a bit breathless, hesitant to exhale.

"Don't be nervous, relax. If you keep holding your breath, you might suffocate in my car!" He genuinely didn't expect her to be so shy and timid.

"Yes, sorry!" The assertiveness she usually had seemed to disappear today. On their first day of marriage, she ended up with a bright red face, truly embarrassing.

But when Shane looked at her, he burst into laughter.

"Why are you apologizing?" Throughout the journey, Shane reassured her emotions. At red lights, he would hold her hand, conveying a sense of security.

"You've never been to my house. How do you know this way?" Valeria found it strange. Why didn't Shane ask her how to get to her house?

Shane looked at her and smiled, "Why are you so absent-minded? Doesn't your registration certificate have your home address?"

"Oh, right!"

Entering the house, the whole family was gathered, even the younger sister who was still in college had come back.

"Sister, why are you just getting back? We're about to have dinner!" Vanya Everhart, like a little rabbit, hopped over, clever and cute, with innocence in her eyes.

But when she saw Shane, there was a hint of astonishment in her eyes.

"Sister, is this... brother-in-law?" She suddenly frowned. Why did he seem different from the description?

Valeria smiled, "Yes, he's your brother-in-law!"

Vanya unexpectedly had a brother-in-law now; the world was truly strange.

"Hello, brother-in-law, I'm Vanya!" She happily extended her hand, speaking warmly to Shane.

Shane shook her hand politely, "Hello, little sister!"

Vanya blushed suddenly; he was really good-looking.

"Sis, you should go inside. Dad is waiting for you two to come back for dinner!" Vanya ran inside first, and then Valeria smiled.

When Shane stepped into the Everhart family's house, he glanced around.

Ed heard that his eldest daughter had come back and slammed the table happily, "The Everhart company is saved!"

As soon as he finished speaking, he hurriedly rushed out.

"Valeria, you finally came back!" Finally, she came back. He was so anxious.

When Shane appeared in front of Ed while holding Valeria's hand, he was first stunned. Why did he look different from the information?

"Valeria, where's the marriage certificate? Show it to me!" Ed, though puzzled, as long as he was a small business owner from H Group, everything was fine.

"Oh, it's in my bag!" Valeria obediently took out the marriage certificate and handed it to Ed.

Ed frowned, opened the marriage certificate.

"Shane Hunter?"

Ed glanced at Shane, then at Valeria, and then raised his hand and...

Slap!

"Dad, why are you hitting sister?" Vanya was stunned by this slap. What was wrong with Dad?

"Hey, Vanya, come here. Did you make your dad angry again?" Valerie’s stepmother, Mila, just came out of the kitchen and saw this scene. Her husband's face turned livid, and she hurriedly grabbed Vanya.

"Dad, why did you hit Sister?"

"Honey, why did you hit Valeria? It's a good day for our family, and don't forget about the company!" Mila advised Ed, but as soon as she mentioned the company, it was like pouring oil on the fire.

"Company! When you mention the company, why don't you ask what she has done?" Ed was furious.

Valeria stared at him defiantly. "What did I do wrong?" She got married because he wanted her to, and as soon as he saw the marriage certificate, he slapped her.

Ed thumped his chest and stomped his feet, "Yes, I asked you to get married, but I didn't ask you to marry the person you like. The person you should marry is Timothy Ryder, the small business owner of H Group!"

Valeria was stunned.

Timothy Ryder?! Shane Hunter?!

I misidentified these two people?

Moreover, she got married to the wrong person!

What on earth happened?

Valeria was becoming bewildered. Was there a mistake?

When she saw her stepmother's gloating look, she knew that today had gone completely wrong.

"Valeria, you are really careless. You're an adult now, can't you take care of your father's health a bit? Your father has a heart condition. I think it's better for you not to come back!" Stepmother blamed Valeria, comforting the explosively angry Ed.

Ed looked at his eldest daughter and then at his youngest daughter, shaking with anger.

"You disobedient girl! Back then, when I asked you to study finance in college, you chose journalism. Now that you've graduated, I asked you to come back to the company, but you went to work as an editor in a magazine. Are you trying to anger your father? Are you happy?" Ed vented all his frustration, "Do you think that if you become an editor, you can find your mother? She abandoned you long ago!"

Valeria's face turned pale; she hadn't expected her inner wounds to be so blatantly exposed.

Shane held her hand tightly; he could even feel her trembling.

"Dad, it's all in the past! I've already gotten married!" She said calmly, trying to suppress her emotions. Tears were swirling in her eyes, but she held them back.

This was the first time Shane had seen her so strong. She could be the shy woman at the coffee shop dealing with a blind date, but at this moment, she acted like a female warrior.

"How could you say that? Have you forgotten that your dad has invested so much effort into this company? Without your dad's years of hard work, would you and your sister have such a good life?" Mila was directing all the blame at Valeria.

Ed glanced at Valeria, then at the hand they were holding. "Tell me, what's going on?"

Valeria didn't expect that her father would be so angry that he was almost having a heart attack. She couldn't hide it, so she explained everything.

"Sister, it's not your fault!" Vanya looked at Shane, intentionally or unintentionally. However, Valeria pulled Shane, shielding him behind her.

With just this small action, Shane looked at her with a side glance.

"Valeria, get out of here! Go and get a divorce now! It's not too late; I'll talk to the Ryder family! Ed suddenly stood up, crazily grabbing Valeria's body. "As long as you get divorced, everything can still be salvaged. After all, only we and the Ryder family know that you got married!"

Valeria took a few steps back and looked at him, "Dad, I've already gotten married. I won't get a divorce!" She didn't know where did she get the courage to say it so directly.

"Well, Ed, don't blame Valeria for this. Otherwise, let Vanya go!" In the midst of everyone's words, only Valeria and Shane remained silent.

Suddenly, Ed picked up a teacup and threw it towards Valeria, who couldn't dodge in time.

"Ah!"

"Dad!"

Bang!

Valeria closed her eyes, resigned to her fate, but the teacup didn't land on her as expected.

"Sha, Shane?" Valeria opened her eyes and found that Shane had shielded her with his body, taking the brunt of the teacup. His suit was soaked with tea, and tea leaves clung to it.

In a hurry, Valeria handed him tissues to wipe off the tea, feeling guilty.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have let you face this!" Regardless of whether he was still the prospective son-in-law or not, he shouldn't have been treated this way on his first visit.

Shane shook his head, indicating that he was fine.

Valeria, with her resolute personality, said, "Dad, I've already married. I will live well with Shane. I won't get a divorce!"

"Sister, don't say such silly things. Dad is doing this for your own good! Besides, what's wrong with being with Timothy?" Vanya joined in the persuasion.

Mila glanced at Shane from head to toe. "Look at him, Valeria. Are you really going to spend your life with this poor guy? I have to remind you, Sweetie, a husband and wife in financial straits will face countless miseries!"

"Valeria, I'll ask you again. Will you get a divorce or not?" Ed clutched his chest, veins popping on his face in anger.
