Chapter 22: Negotiation

“I heard that before…” Kate whispered. She remembered those times when she was easily duped to marry him. She once believed them. 

“I understand, Hope. It’s not that I don’t want to let you go, but I also don’t have a choice.” Kael leaned on the chair with his arms crossed. Seeing her confused look, he added, “We need to remain married, Hope. This will benefit us both.”

Kate was perplexed. Her brow furrowed with a mix of surprise and curiosity. 

“You filed a divorce when you learned that my parents were already dead. I assume it was because you thought that their promise would not be fulfilled, right?”

Kate absentmindedly nodded as she waited for him to continue.
