Chapter 5: Wedding ceremony

It was now nine o'clock, and she wanted to go to the bookstore to find some academic materials before today's afternoon class started.

Stepping down from the luxury Lincoln, she walked slowly into the bookstore.

Doris loved the smell of books, even the rustle of pages as she flipped them. From a young age, she showed her outstanding learning ability, always being an excellent student in the eyes of family, friends and teachers. She was always beloved by her parents, beloved by friends and people around, everything in life was great until at the age of fifteen, her mother died unexpectedly from a traffic accident. That day was also her birthday, her parents happily drove her to KFC to have a meal as she wanted. Normally, they rarely let her eat at outside restaurants to protect her health, so that day she was very joyful, even singing all the way home.

Her family lived in a peaceful suburb, so the road back at night was extremely empty. A truck with a drunk driver suddenly rushed out from the corner, her father immediately turned the steering wheel to avoid it, but his action couldn't match the truck's incredible speed.

In the emergency, her mother rushed to the back seat of the car to hug her, shield her...

After the awful accident, her father lost a leg, lost his beloved wife.

At that time, not only her, but her father also collapsed. The happy family just fell apart. Even though her father never opened up to blame, she always scolded herself, thinking that every misfortune that happened was her fault.

If she hadn't asked to go out to dinner, her family wouldn't have come home so late.

If it hadn't been late, the accident wouldn't have happened.

If her mother had not protected her, perhaps the one who would leave would have been her, not her mother.

That way, her father wouldn't be so desperate.

It was all her fault.

Since then, Doris was no longer lively and cheerful, her personality gradually turned chilly, quiet, rarely smiling, gnawing at her own pain and boundless regret.

Until Daniel showed up.

He was tender and warm like the sun, dispelling an icy corner in her heart. Their love was very pure and peaceful, she used to think that in this life, apart from him, she would not be able to fall in love with anyone no more. Her cold personality at that time remained unchanged because the pain of losing a loved one did not ease, Daniel also told her that she did not need to change. He loved her like that, loved the peaceful feeling when he was next to her.

But then he let go of her hands.

Disappeared without a word.

And he started a new life, with new people. A life without her.

Doris collapsed again. That year she was only eighteen years old, too many events happened in her life that made her no longer believe in the future.

She even thought that she was cursed.

The next traffic accident was proof of her thinking.

As Doris was walking in a daze on the street, a car broke up on the curb and hit her. Doris did not react in time, was slammed into the wall, hit her head on the ground and fell into a coma.

The moment she opened her eyes again, she felt that she had just returned from a trip to hell, completely losing hope in life.

After that, she and Ethan got married.

In the white ceremony with the decoration theme of the fairy wedding, in everyone's mind, the marriage of two people was the beginning of a new life.

In her father's worried eyes, Paul's happy eyes and the admiring eyes of the guests, only she knew that this marriage was exactly the grave in which she buried her life.

Only thing, after two years of living together, her attitude seemed to be no longer cold towards Ethan. It became a disguise for her true feeling instead.

It was also the variable she didn't expect the most.

After the wedding ceremony, Ethan used every means to warm her heart and pamper her like a princess. In his eyes, there was only her figure.

Until her heart began to soften, he let go of her hands.

Doris didn't know the reason, only sensed that his attitude towards her had changed. He no longer asked her to make love, no longer gentle, his warmth disappeared.

She has her own pride, she never asked.

His ego was even bigger than hers, which of course he never explained.

So at that time, she just assumed that he had passed the initial fresh period, gradually getting bored with her cold personality.

Like Daniel.

She once asked Ethan, "If you're bored, why not get a divorce?"

It was midnight, and Ethan had just returned from some sort of party that she hadn't noticed. After hearing her question, he looked at her nonchalantly and replied, "Unless I die, I will never accept the divorce."

"Why?" Surprised, she asked him.

Ethan raised an eyebrow, "Don't tell me you don't know the reason. Doris, you're so smart, you should have guessed early on. The reason this marriage started, the reason it couldn't end."

After saying that, he gave her a cold smile and left the room. He went downstairs and drove the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut supercar away.

At that moment, Doris finally understood.

After marrying her, he became the CEO of Sapphire Corporation.

Paul also gave her company shares even though she didn't want to, so she attended the annual shareholder meeting. Of course, she heard the whispers they had about Ethan, as well as the curious looks they gave her.

Before getting married, he was a genuine playboy, there was no such thing as a stimulating game he hadn't tried. All day, just playing around, spending money. Shareholders never thought that Paul would hand the corporation over to him. By the time she appeared, the two were married, and Ethan had gone from being a licentious man to focusing on his career.

They think that Ethan had changed because he loved her, only she knew the truth of how their marriage began.

That night, through his words, she realized that he married her to inherit the corporation. Although there were a few things that still didn't figure out, Doris also learned that Ethan had never been in love with her. It was all just a jest, a play he made up.

When he got married, he felt something fresh so he spoiled her to heaven.

When he was bored, he turned cold, indifferent, and savage.

A tear fell from the corner of Doris' eyes.

As it turned out, in that year's ceremony, she not only buried her life but also started another series of her own misfortunes.

She held a broken heart full of scars walking towards him.

He held a calculating and playful heart taking her hand.
