Chapter Forty- Six

Karina grappled with conflicting emotions as Aidan's words sank in. Despite the sincerity she sensed in his voice, years of hurt and betrayal made it difficult for her to let her guard down completely. "Let's focus on your recovery," she deflected, turning to the doctor for an update on Aidan's condition. "Doctor, how's he doing?"

“You don't need to worry, Miss Everhardt." The doctor offered reassurance, explaining that while Aidan was on the path to recovery, they needed to conduct further scans to rule out any underlying injuries. Karina felt a wave of relief wash over her, grateful that Aidan was making progress. "Fantastic," she murmured, attempting to inject some levity into the conversation. "Guess that means I won't have to play nursemaid anymore."
