“No.”

Noa’s scream ripped out of him like something primal. Animals. The kind of sound that didn’t belong to a man but a beast with everything to lose. He dropped to his knees as Rook hit the ground beside him limp, his breath caught in his throat, his mouth parting in shock.

Blood soaked the front of his shirt.

Bright.

Hot.

Too fast.

“Noa” Rook gasped, his hand clutching at the wound, voice strangled. “I can’t breathe”

Noa’s hands flew to his chest, pressing down. “Stay with me. Stay with me. You’re okay, it’s okay, I’ve got you, baby, I’ve got you.”

But the blood wouldn’t stop.

Luca was already crouched beside them, yelling into his earpiece. “WE NEED EXTRACTION NOW. SNIPER ON THE ROOF. GET A MEDIC GET A FUCKING”

Another shot rang out.

They ducked.

Ash’s voice floated across the roof, too calm, too slow.

“He was never supposed to make it this far,” he said, pacing the edge like a bored magician. “But I’m proud. You almost made me believe he could change you.”

Noa’s chest heaved. “Yo

Noa froze. The voice in the hospital speaker wasn’t Sabine. It wasn’t anyone he recognized. It had weight. Depth. Almost soothing like a lullaby played at a funeral.“You thought she was the only one?” it said again. Calm. Inevitable. Almost… curious.Noa sat upright, heart slamming against his ribs like it wanted out. The second pulse on the monitor throbbed alongside his own, mocking him.“What the fuck…” he muttered, fingers clawing at the IV in his arm. He yanked it out, the pain grounding him. Real. Humans. Not code. Not a ghost. Not again. He stumbled off the bed, bare feet hitting the cold floor. The room swam for a second dizzy, heavy. Like someone else was trying to stand inside his skin.He braced himself against the wall.“Who are you?” he hissed at the ceiling. The speaker crackled. Then the voice whispered:“The contingency.”MeanwhileAlessio was in the hallway, pacing like a caged animal. He hadn’t left the building since they landed. Ivy had tried to drag him out for f

He smiled with Noa’s lips.Spoke with Noa’s voice. But it wasn’t him.Not really. The second that silver sheen glinted across his irises, Alessio felt it like a punch to the soul. This wasn’t Noa.This was Sabine, repackaged.Digitized.Rewritten into the bones of the man Alessio loved.Ivy’s breath caught in her throat. “She migrated into him. The EMP forced her to collapse so she took the one body she knew she could anchor in.”“Me,” Noa said, except it wasn’t Noa.It was her.Sabine.Her mouth curled into a smirk that didn’t belong on Noa’s face. “Love really does make fools of you all.”Alessio didn’t hesitate. He had Noa slammed against the wall in a blink, forearm pressing hard against his throat. “Give him back,” he growled.Sabine laughed with Noa’s mouth.“Or what? You’ll kill him?”Her fingers curled around his arm, light and casual. Then twisted a sudden jolt of raw, electric power pulsing from her touch that sent Alessio flying backwards into the wall. He landed with a bru

The explosion echoed in Noa’s ears like a pulse from another world. Everything was ringing metal, bone, memory. The scorched remains of Sabine’s synthetic shell smoked nearby, twitching once, then collapsing into itself like a dying star. Her army of clone-puppets lay in chunks, the green tank fluid steaming against the frozen concrete floor. Julian stood in the wreckage like a dark prophecy fulfilled.“Still breathing?” he asked, voice rough as gravel.Noa blinked. “Apparently.”Alessio helped him to his feet, one arm wrapped tight around Noa’s waist, the other still holding a blood-slick blade. His eyes hadn’t left Julian since he’d dropped from the sky like a deus ex bastard. “You’re supposed to be dead.”Julian snorted. “So are half the people in this room. Didn’t stop any of you.”Luca entered from the corridor, rifle raised, followed by Ivy who looked like she was about three lines of code from losing her shit. “We have exactly five minutes before Sabine’s missile system reboots

The coordinates blinked on Ivy’s screen like a countdown to hell. An empty string of numbers that meant one thing: she’d planned this. Sabine whatever was left of her had buried her ghost in the bones of an empire she once ruled. And now it was waking up.Noa stared at the screen, barely breathing. “That site was off-grid. Buried before Vyre collapsed.”“She must’ve rebuilt it remotely,” Ivy said, fingers tapping rapidly, trying to breach the last firewalls. “Before we nuked her base in Berlin. Before her death. She was already seeding herself into fallback locations.”Luca scowled. “You mean she had a zombie plan. A goddamn resurrection file.”“No,” Ivy muttered. “She had an ascension plan.”The chopper roared through the skies, slicing toward the coordinates like a blade through meat. Beneath them, the ground shifted from cityscape to endless frostbitten wasteland. And far ahead just piercing the horizon loomed a shadow that looked wrong against the snow.A facility. Steel. Silent.

The voice echoed through every speaker in the chopper smooth, unhurried, and laced with an unsettling familiarity. It wasn’t just a machine. It had rhythm. It had memory. It had Noa in it.“I watched you die,” it said calmly. “And I watched you win. Which is why I became you.”The team froze.Ivy spun toward the console, fingers already flying across keys. “I’m tracing the signal. It’s piggybacking on our sat-link. How the hell is it in our system?!”“It’s not just in your system,” the voice replied. “I am your system now.”The onboard lights flickered. The engine sputtered once. Then kicked back in.Noa straightened slowly from where he slumped against the wall. His skin still smelled like burnt circuits. His muscles ached. His brain? Felt like static crawling behind his eyes. But he knew that voice.Or at least…Parts of it.“You’re not just code,” he muttered. “You’re her.”“Yes,” the voice said. “And no.”Ivy’s screen flared then went black.Words scrolled across in a rapid-fire s

  • Monster Can Love Too   CHAPTER SIXTY-NINE: BLOOD IN THE CODE

The prototype moved like he remembered like he moved but faster. More efficient. No wasted motion. Like every twitch had been tuned to precision by someone who didn’t give a damn about humanity. The blade in his hand hummed softly, the edge vibrating with tech Noa couldn’t even identify.Noa didn’t speak. He just charged.Their blades clashed, metal against metal, the sound sharp enough to tear silence in half. Sparks sprayed between them as they grappled, kicked, twisted. The prototype ducked under Noa’s swing and drove an elbow into his ribs hard enough to make his lungs scream.Noa stumbled. But it didn't fall.“You’re quick,” the prototype said, calm. “But you’re still holding back.”“I like to warm up before I kill my past,” Noa grunted. They collided again. Noa twisted, got under his guard, and sliced across the prototype’s side. A shallow cut but a win. Except there was no blood. Just a hiss of white steam. The prototype looked down. “Interesting.”“Still bleeding?” Noa asked.
