Chapter Two

After three different but surprisingly fascinating classes, well, except my first class, Boundaries, and Territories. It was finally time for lunch, I was famished. Shaking off the nervous feeling of entering a crowded room for the first time, I opened the cafeteria door.

Unsurprisingly, no one else but Adalyn paid me any mind. She was currently waving at me from her seat by one of the cafeteria windows. A perfect spot for me.

"How were your classes?" I asked her, taking a seat beside her.

"Boring for me." She responded, diving into her fried spicy elk meat.

"I had interesting classes after my first one. Demons; Underworld Beasts and Monsters in MistWorld." I told her, waiting for a floating tray containing a plate of roasted mistdeers and milk, but nothing happened.

"Place your hands on the desk in front of you and think of what you want to eat. The tables are spelled to provide whatever we wish for." Adalyn said.

"Sweet. At W.A, a tray containing our lunch appears before us. I was expecting the same" I explained, smiling at her in thanks but she was not looking at me. Her cheerful attention was focused behind me. I turned to see the object of her attention.

"Wow," I muttered for the second time today. Seven people were walking toward us but my attention was captured by the boy leading them.

I had come across handsome boys before and honestly, slept with one back at Coven Community, even though he was much older than me. But this boy was the most handsome I had ever seen.

He was tall, lean, and possessed the body of a god. He had white hair and deep blue eyes. When they arrived at our table, he leaned over and placed a kiss on Adalyn's head. "Hey, baby sis. Looking good as always. Didn't see you this morning as usual." He told her, concern clouding his eyes as he looked at her for answers.

"I met a new friend, Reggy. Reggy, this is my overprotective older brother, Alix. He is a junior. We meet up every morning so he can walk me to class." Adalyn answered, diverting his attention from herself to me.

His blue eyes found mine."Hi." He greeted me, taking a seat beside his sister. "Are you new here? Cuz, I will never forget a beautiful face like this." He added, earning a chuckle from Adalyn and a blush from me.

"I'm new. Transferred from W. A," I replied, not able to keep my eyes off his blue ones. It was why I was able to see the mischievous glint in those eyes before he replied.

"Then allow me to welcome you to N. A." He picked up my hand and placed a kiss on it. I pulled my hand away, blushing. Okay, so I guess I should have kept my hands a little longer, but I was not ready to encourage flattery with this hot dude. Even though he was drop-dead gorgeous.

"You flirt. Stop making her uncomfortable " Adalyn admonished him, gently thumping him at the back of his head.

"Ouch. That hurts!" He playfully grabbed his head and frowned at her. She chuckled, and I shook my head in amusement. They were adorable.

He smiled and winked at me. Oh damn, he had a dimple on his left cheek. I liked seeing certain physical qualities in boys and this guy had everything complete. Possible crush alert!

"These are my pack mates, Ace, Xenos, Adrika, who is my beta, Morgane, Bliss, and Flash. Including Adalyn of course." He introduced. They all nodded in acknowledgment at me, I smiled at them in return.

"You are welcome to N.A Regina." Adrika said to me. She looked like someone who rarely smiled. Her face was unsmiling but not unfriendly. A long scar ran from her left ear down to her chin, a sign that the girl had gone through hard times.

In every academic institution in Old Wood, including this one, werewolves formed different packs with their pack mates from the same community.

I gave his packmates a wave before placing my hands on the table and ordering roasted Mistdeers and a glass of mistgrape juice. Mistdeers were among the diverse creatures in MistWorld that were hunted for consumption.

They all followed suit in ordering their lunch and began devouring them while chatting quietly with each other. I noticed that Adalyn looked happier talking to her brother. I wondered briefly why she didn't want him to know about this morning's event. I was certain he would be able to put an end to it.

I also noticed that Alix's eyes were on me instead of his sister's. I smiled uncomfortably and raised an eyebrow at him. He gave me a dimpled smile in return.

"Is it true that a man was found dead at The Mixed Community last night?" I heard someone ask. Alix frowned, hearing it too.

"Yes. My mom sent a message checking up on me this morning. I'm yet to reply to her. My damn Mistdove isn't back yet. I swear that animal acts human." Xenos replied. Mistdoves and Mistrows were pets that were used to deliver messages anywhere in MistWorld.

"You shouldn't have left her without food. She'll be back." Flash responded, patting Xenos on the back in sympathy.

"But that can't be true, can it? TMC is a community of harmony." Morgane said, frowning in worry as she chewed. She had full eyebrows that fitted her well. She had long straight dark hair that she had styled into two long braids.

"We don't know what it means. It could have been one of the Mistanimals." Alix responded but frowned at the group of people who arrived at our table.

"Rhaegal, is there something you need?" Alix asked the leader of the group calmly, yet somehow, I knew he was anything but calm. His eyes were slightly narrowed, and his hands were folded into fists on the table.

"We just wanted to welcome the new student." Rhaegal turned to me, ignoring the alpha. Like all werewolves, he was handsome and had dark brown hair and eyes. "Hello beauty, you should not start your first day hanging out with losers." He told me, obviously trying to rile up Alix and his pack.

Alix's packmates growled in response but said nothing.

"Rhaegal," Alix called in a deep warning tone, which Rhaegal ignored. The alarm for the next period suddenly blared, saving the day.

I ignored Rhaegal, picked up my bag, and stood alongside the pack. "Don't want to be late. See you later?" I asked Adalyn who did not answer, she was attempting very hard to stamp down her laughter, although not quite succeeding.

Alix was not subtle about his laughter, and neither were most of his packmates. Adrika and Ace smiled at me. I smiled at them, though my gaze stayed on Alix. His deep laughter sounded almost magical, grabbing my attention instantly. He was even more good-looking when he laughed.

If I wasn't careful, I would fall for him and that was the last thing on my mind not because we were two different races but because I didn't need the complications that came with matters of the heart and also because we were not in the same status. I was a lowly witch with insignificant powers and he was an Alpha.

Interspecies relationships were rare because of the strife between the species, but they happened once in a while, especially in TMC.

Ignoring an angry Rhaegal and his pack, who watched us go. I saw the promise of revenge in Rhaegal's eyes which were now the golden color of his wolf's as we walked out the cafeteria door. Smiling, I gave him a pinkie wave.

Alix was suddenly at my side, his arm around my shoulder, he whispered, "I'm liking you already." I felt my heart skip a beat at his words.

"I don't like flirts," I responded, trying to step away from his arms even though my traitorous body was screaming otherwise. He let me go. A little part of me was disappointed.

"That's good though I'm not a flirt.  And I'm being honest when I say that I'm attracted to you." Alix responded seriously. Looking down at me, he smiled. "I've got my eye out for you, Lady red." He winked and walked away with his pack, leaving Adalyn with me.

"I thought he usually walks you to class," I said.

"Yeah but there's an emergency meeting with my father. He had been summoned since before lunch but he wanted to check up on me before leaving. He wasn't supposed to stay long though, but something, or should I say someone, changed his mind." She answered, wiggling her eyes at me, causing me to laugh.

"You look comical. And it can't be me." I answered back.

"Why not?" She asked, curiously.

"Well, he couldn't have decided to miss something important because of me. He doesn't even know me." I replied, not looking at her.

"My brother never flirts with any girl. He doesn't even pay the kind of attention he paid to you at lunch to any other girl. He wasn't even listening to me and that in itself is something I used to think was impossible. And when you ignored Rhaegal, damn! He was surprised and grew even more interested in you." She argued.

"How do you know?" I asked, my heart thumping in fast rhythms.

"I was watching you both and I know him so well." She replied.

I shook my head, disbelieving. He was probably acting. "What's the deal with Rhaegal anyway?" I asked as we neared my classroom.

"He is the Beta of Howlers Pack, our rival pack in school, led by Erix, their Alpha. Erix has not resumed yet, fortunately. Can I come to see you in the evening if you don't mind? I'd like to know more about my savior." She told me, looking at me as if she was worried I'd turn her down.

"Of course. I'm on the same floor as you, so just search for Regina Murghan. " I replied and walked into my classroom, waving at her. She waved back, smiling wide.

I was beginning to think that my days in N. A wouldn't be boring or lonely as my days at W. A had been. That filled me with great joy.
