"Adalyn!" Alix whispered in worry, his wide eyes flying to me. As one we both began to run out of the room and out of the female hostel, along with other girls on the same floor who had heard the howls.
"What's going on?" I heard someone ask another but I didn't wait to hear a response. Alix ran into Adalyn's room calling her name, but her room was empty of her. "Where is she?" I asked him in worry."She was supposed to be here waiting for me to bring you over." He responded, his fingers combing through his hair. I didn't ask why, I didn't need to. I guessed Adalyn wanted to throw a small surprise party.A whimpering sound came from the other side of the room drawing my attention. It was Lenda, Adalyn's quiet roommate."Go look for her. I'll take care of Lenda." I said to Alix who didn't look pleased. He looked like he just found himself in between a rock and a hard place. My eyes widened when I realized that he was worried for me, someone he just met. Touched beyond imagination, I took a step toward him, then another, ignoring the warning in my head not to start something I was not ready for.But the thought of someone caring for me other than my aunt filled me with a strange emotion that I couldn't decipher at the moment. He watched my approach. When I reached him, I stood on tiptoes and gave him a soft kiss on the lips. He closed his eyes and sighed with a smile. " Promise me that you will be careful." He asked me, looking down at me. But before I could answer, two things happened at once. The earth began to tremble as if something huge was approaching us, and the sound of an ear-splitting roar, closer and louder than the first, filled the whole school. I looked back at the Alpha, fear and worry evident on our faces. "Go find your sister, now."He placed a kiss on my forehead. "Be safe. Meet us in the Great Hall. The principal will soon announce for all students to go there. But I think the students are already on their way there. Join them." He told me and sprinted out the door as he began to shift into his wolf. That was a good choice because his wolf had a better chance of sniffing out Adalyn than his human form. I ran out of the door with him, forgetting Lenda for a minute to get a glance at Alix's wolf. I gasped when I beheld the enormous white wolf, the color of Alix's hair. I could feel the Alpha power that rolled from the wolf even though I was not a wolf. The magnificent wolf leaped over two students who were frozen in shock, obviously not certain where the danger was, outside or before them in the form of the unusually huge wolf. I watched as the wolf ran down the almost deserted hallway.A voice that I recognized as Mister Wilkin's, the school principal, blared through the school speakers."All students are to assemble in the Great Hall for their protection. All the teachers should follow suit. Do not worry, we are still protected by the ward made by the Elder Witches themselves."After the speaker went quiet, I ushered a trembling Lenda out of the room towards the Great Hall. We were the only ones out now, which meant everyone else was in the Hall. Shit. Another earthquake occurred just then, followed by another and another. The Hall was situated close to the school entrance, so as we drew close to the hall, I saw several uniformed young people sprinting towards the gate, followed by another group of uniformed people, followed by a third. The second group shifted to enormous wolf forms of diverse colors, while the third, though they weren't as many as the first or second group, was equally fearsome to look at for they had deadly-looking fangs jutting out from between their red lips. They were also very pale. Vampires.Vampires hated sunlight because of how it affected their visions and gave them sunburn faster than normal. These vampires were moving and seeing well in the sun toward the ward. Magic was certainly at work.I ushered Lenda into the Great Hall and closed it behind her. I couldn't control the urge to see what was going on out there. Where were these uniformed warriors from? Why was the school sending a group of teenagers to fight monsters? It seemed N. A had secrets that I had to figure out.Pursuing the warriors as quietly as possible was not an easy task, to be honest, but I succeeded in doing so. The wolves and vampires were too preoccupied with what was outside the gate to smell me, or it was probably because they were a little far from me.When I arrived at the gate, I let out a quiet gasp at what I was seeing outside the ward. The sound of the roar that had alerted us of danger gave us a clue as to how big of a danger we were in. Though the monsters that made that sound were terrifying to behold. What I was staring at were creatures that resembled hybrid experiments gone wrong. The monsters were as tall as the trees in the forest. Their arms were so long they used them to walk along with their two legs, like the gorillaens I had once seen in the zoo back at Coven Community. These beasts had huge heads like wolves, fangs as long as my arm, their eyes were snake-like, and their huge bodies had thick muscles designed by a map of veins. They had long scorpion tails. Th
It took me longer than it should have to answer him. I was shocked that of all people, I had to cross paths with the alpha of Alix's rival pack and that I was feeling drawn to him. I did not know he was back already."Mistcats got your tongue?" He mocked in a husky voice, drawing closer to me. I almost gasped out loud at the warmth that became slightly warmer but not uncomfortable.Scowling in irritation, I snapped at him, "Have you ever heard of personal space? Just get the fuck out of my way." "Personal space? Never heard of it. Will you enlighten me, pretty please?" He replied, obviously fucking with me.I loured at him and started to walk around him, intent on ignoring him but he blocked my path.Frowning, I moved again to the left, and he followed. Gritting my teeth in barely suppressed anger, I moved to the right, but still he moved with me, smirking. Finally, I snapped at him. "What do you want?""Your name." He replied, leaning down to my face level, he added in a low voice,
It didn't take us long to settle into one of the vacant classrooms in Essex Hallway. After they had settled in, they all looked at me, waiting. Combing my fingers through my thick hair, I began."It seems that there are secrets in this school that I didn't know about." They all frowned in confusion."What secrets?" Lenda asked, no longer looking like the terrified girl I had accompanied to the Hall.I told them about the uniformed warriors, the absence of teachers and the principal at the gate, the strange scorpion-wolf hybrid that was intent on slamming the ward down to get to me, and Erix being among the warriors. I purposely left out my interaction with him and what I had felt with him. I didn't think Alix would be pleased. After I concluded, they were all quietly surprised.Adrika broke the silence first, her hard face looking even harder as she frowned in thought. "That's strange, indeed. I've never heard of these uniformed warriors before.""Erix told you they were there to prot
Hey, freak!" Adalyn groaned and rubbed her hands across her face tiredly. She stopped and turned to face the Clique of Mean Girls, who were walking with Erix and his packmates. They had stopped harassing her after what I did, but I guessed their silence had lasted long enough."I'm not a freak," Adalyn defended."You sure are. The freak omega daughter of an Alpha. Come to think of it, it shouldn't be a surprise. Compared to our Alpha back at home, your father is a weakling. It makes sense that he sired a weakling." Rhaegal said, smirking.Erix was watching the interaction with an amused expression on his face. Two of his female packmates, a girl with ebony hair and another with lavender-colored hair, clung to him. I had been meaning to talk to him after yesterday's meeting but didn't see him until now.His eyes met mine and he smiled at me. I felt a tug in my heart at that but ignored it. "Hello, Regina. We meet again. You look wonderful today."I snarled, ignoring Adalyn's confused g
"Alix! Reggy!" Adalyn's voice came from outside the great hall entrance. She had been waiting for us alongside Lenda and the pack.Adrika and Ace looked ready to jump into battle, while the rest of the group wore different expressions ranging from fear, and worry to horror. When we got to the Hall entrance, two things happened at once. The scorpion-wolves arrived and a swirling dark hole appeared before us, a red figure flew from within it before it closed back.We all stared at the figure in shock. It was a tall woman with wild red hair and flawless skin but when she turned to face us, I gasped. Her face was a reflection of mine. The only difference between us was our eyes. My eyes were gray whereas hers were all black, with no whites. A dark witch."What the hell?" Alix muttered."Hello daughter," the dark witch greeted in a voice that sounded sweet as honey but spiced with venom. I frowned and stepped back, Alix moved to stand in front of me and his sister was clinging to my arm
CHAPTER 12"Wakey Wakey, sleepy head," Karissa said in a sing-song tone in my ear, her breath brushing against my cheek.I groaned awake and sat up. Karissa sat up too and grinned down at me. She was sitting beside me on an unfamiliar bed, in a small unfamiliar room that was painted a light green color. "Slept well?" She asked, still smiling. There was a manic gleam in her eyes that terrified me. I knew without a doubt that she was a nutcase. A dark and powerful nutcase and I were so screwed."Why am I here? What do you want with me?" I asked, trying to control my fear. I wasn't one to panic easily, but being in the presence of a dark, powerful, and crazy witch in an unknown Location was enough to scare me like hell.Karissa gave me a look that said, 'did you hit your head?' before answering, "I already told you, baby girl. I want to train you. Your powers are going to do things for me that I couldn't achieve alone, even with my powers."I shook my head, "you are mistaken. I don't h
"Your magic is a part of you as I'm sure you would know by now. You don't need to think too hard about it. Now, what I want you to do is create monsters in your head, including every quality you want them to have, then summon them into being." Karissa teaching me magic with patience wasn't something I had expected. It was scaring me because it could mean that she planned to keep me here for a long time. We had been practicing magic for three days now outside the building where I was being held captive and I still couldn't create monsters like I had done before In school subconsciously. Even with that, she did not hurt me or get angry at me. And that terrified me.I had decided to do as she wanted, only because I intended to use it against her. For everything she did, she would pay."Do you need a whistle to begin or do you want to continue staring at me?" Karissa asked sarcastically with her eyebrow raised.Taking in deep breaths, I attempted to do as she instructed. I wasn't an ima
"Who is my father?" I asked her as I ate and drank the food Karissa had summoned for me since I was yet to try it myself."Your father's name was Daemon. He was a vampire, witch, and demon." Karissa answered from her spot by the window. I was grateful for the space even though she had not been violent since the first time she had flung me. She had been surprisingly normal. My eyes widened at her in shock, my hand pausing halfway to my mouth. "How is that possible?" I asked.Even though interspecies marriages happened from time to time, it was unheard of for a person on Mistworld to be a demon. Demons couldn't stay long in MistWorld. According to what I heard, MistWorld was toxic to them if they stayed too long."Your father was a rarity and the most powerful being that walked MistWorld after the Elder god and goddesses themselves." "You keep talking as if he's dead," I didn't know how I felt about a dead father I didn't know, but if he was as evil as Karissa, then he was better off
