06 | Unwanted Presence

'MAKARI'

The unintelligible conversation of a multitude of voices accompanied by the shrill and long sound of the bell ringing was the mutual noise that was trying to wake up my listless body. The first half of class is over and everyone is now heading to the cafeteria for lunch but not me.

Instead of going to the place where the food was, I just chose to stay here, sitting as if I had no intention of moving. My arms are on the desk where my bowed head rests.

"Hmm, Makari? Are you sure you don't want to join us for lunch? We were about to talk about what we can do for our creative project in Arts," said, no doubt, one of my group mates in our art subject, Jenna.

Without haste, without life, and without enthusiasm, I raised one of my hands. I don't know if they understood the gesture I made but I think that was enough to convey to them my reply, "No. I don't feel like eating."

And I think they do because after I did that, I just heard their footsteps going away and out of the room. I e
