Nivia POV.

I stare, frozen, my eyes fixed on the chalkboard.

Who had done this?

The answer came to me easily.

It was Claire. It had to be Claire.

No one cared enough about me to bother with such silly jokes.

How did I go from being invisible to being ridiculed?

I didn't want the publicity. Especially if it came with negative vibes and insults.

I liked it better when no one saw me and were too busy with their own lives to care.

Now, it seems the spotlight was pointed in my direction and everyone was having a fun day laughing at me and throwing low jabs my way.

I knew I was not a beauty, but I wasn't that ugly either.

I preferred it when they called me strange rather than now that they thought I was ugly.

No one likes to be called ugly.

Inhaling a deep breath, I whipped my head around and shot Claire a nasty look.

She was seated at the opposite end of the class with her own clique of friends.

I saw them watching me while they giggled and laughed.

"This isn't funny," I said and went ov

Justin POV.What did I just hear?Goosebumps crept up my skin. Here I sat, watching the exchange between Nivia and Claire, debating if I should intervene in a girl's squabble or not.As usual, Claire was just being Claire, talking down to anyone who stood in her way. She was spoiled and liked getting attention. It was one of the things that made her happy. However, I began to notice that things were getting a bit too serious when she shoved Nivia to the ground. That made me uncomfortable.I was just about to speak up when I saw her throw Nivia's keys and leave. I knew the confrontation wouldn't last. She was all talk and no action, in truth, she couldn't hurt a fly. She was delicate that way.As for Nivia's notebook, I would get it from her later and return it. I needed to do that if I wanted her to help me with my assignment.Relieved that the exchange was over, I was just about to plug in my earplugs and continue with my music when I saw Nivia look back directly at me with an accu

Nivia POV. I made no move to hand my keys over. She grew impatient and began to search me. Claire patted me down, front and back. Dipping her hands into every pocket and every fold of my hoodie and joggers. Finally, she felt the keys in the back pocket of my joggers. Zipping it open, she pulled out my keys. "So this is where you hid it?" I stood rooted to the spot and watched her open my locker and bring out my notebook. I saw her flip through the pages of my book and smile, "Your note is detailed and your writing is good. I wonder why I never borrowed your notes before." I wanted to stop her but I didn't know how. I knew she was just trying to get a reaction out of me so she and her friends could bully me. My eyes darted to the clock and the time was 2:40 p.m. I had only twenty minutes left before lunch was over. Deciding to leave my notebook with her to avoid any trouble, I reached forward to collect the keys from her. "Give me back my keys." "Slow down, why are you in a

Nivia POV. "Can you go to the dining hall alone? I'll put my books together and come to meet you," I told Mateo. Coming out of his emotional state, he gave me a curt nod. Turning around, I walked back to class. In my hands, I still held the tube Justin had just gifted me. With each step I took, my mind filled with a new determination. I would not let Justin come between me and my friend. I valued our friendship and would rather deny myself my carnal desires than jeopardize the only good thing I had going for me in my life. I had just walked back into class when I saw some of the students present, laughing hilariously and pointing at something on the chalkboard. Disoriented, I looked around for Justin till I finally saw him lounging on his seat with Kyle and four other boys. They were gathered together at the back, eating expensive snacks and gisting instead of going to the dining hall for lunch. Hmmm. Rich kids, always wanting to stand out for no reason. Lunch w

Nivia POV.Mateo rose from his chair.Without warning, he pulled me up and away from Justin's touch. My eyes darted as I feared another confrontation was underway, but luckily for me, he didn't confront Justin, just pulled me along and took me out of the class. The good thing was, Justin let him.He didn't make a scene or try to snatch me back from Mateo's hold. He was laid back and watched, somewhat amused as I was being taken away.A part of me wondered if his gift came from a genuine place or if the gesture was done solely to annoy my best friend. As Matty led me along the halls of the corridor, I could feel the other students turn and stare at us.Their attention seemed uncomfortable, so I let my gaze dip downwards, trying not to meet their eyes as I followed behind him.We left the class building and walked towards the dining hall. When I was sure nobody was looking, I pulled my hand away from him.He stopped and turned around."Why are you stopping? Are you not going to have lu

Nivia POV. A day later. Today was Monday and classes had resumed. The mating festival took place on Saturday, which was a weekend, and the next day, being Sunday, passed by in total silence. However, Monday being today was the start of a new week for us students, and everywhere was rowdy with the school activities. Everyone was focused on their daily routine, attending classes, taking notes, and participating in their vocational courses, be it sports, drama club, music, gardening, dance, or art. Surprisingly, many people had moved on from the festival outcome and resumed their daily lives. Except, of course, for my best friend, Matty, who had been giving me the silent treatment today. And Justin, who couldn't take his eyes off me. Matty's desk was adjacent to mine, and we were in the middle row. His seat was close to the window, and he spent the entire class period looking at the teacher or staring out the window. Whereas Justin, on the other hand, sat at the back of the clas
