Nivia POV.

"What?" Mateo and Justin both blinked, looking surprised.

"What did you just say?" Justin asked.

"I choose none," I repeated, the words leaving my lips in a rush.

Shocked gasps echoed around the crowd.

I was torn and at a loss on who to choose, so I decided to plead the fifth. To remove myself from this complex situation.

It was the safest choice.

How could I betray my friend, the only one who has always stood by me, and choose another?

It felt wrong.

Also, I couldn't publicly reject Justin's claim on me for Mateo. That would be setting myself up for a difficult life in the pack. He was, after all, the Alpha's son and the next Alpha of our pack.

Moreover, I still had butterflies in my stomach when I looked at him.

I felt Mateo's grip loosen around my wrist as I saw his gaze falter with a sense of disappointment.

Justin's grip still remained firm but I saw his jaw slacken with disbelief. As though he could not believe that I could reject him.
