Mag-log inNivia POV.
"Let go of her," Mateo said, tugging on my arm and drawing me close to him. "No, you let go," Justin retorted, pulling me back. Was this some kind of joke? Was the universe messing with me? Not one but two mates? When I thought I wouldn't be lucky enough to get one and even if I managed to, he wouldn't want me. Now here I was, being pulled in different directions by my best friend and crush. They all want me. The moon goddess definitely had a weird sense of humor. "She is mine, I got here first," Mateo insisted, stepping in front of me. "You were only two seconds early, I was right behind you," Justin countered, also stepping forward. They were face to face with each other in a stand-off, their faces so close that their noses almost touched. "You don't even like her, you rejected her before remember?" Mateo grated, his voice growing thick with emotion. "That was before I knew she was my mate. I won't let her go now that I know she is mine," Justin replied with a lot of determination. I gaped from one male to another, surprised. Their grip on my hand was strong and unyielding, so I was forced to remain here and watch this exchange between them. On one hand, I was shocked to see this side of Matty. He was always so cool and level-headed that I was mortified to see this level of aggression from him. On the other hand, I was beyond mystified to see Justin, who had openly rejected my feelings for him the other day, fighting so desperately for me. Talk about life throwing you a curveball. A surprising and an unexpected incident. "She is not yours," Mateo refused, taking a step forward. "How do you know she is not mine?" Justin demanded, stepping forward as well. Right now, their noses were literally touching as they stared into each other's eyes. Hazel eyes glistening with a hint of firelight, gazing into smoking grey eyes that swirled with a storm. "Stand down, Justin. My wolf recognized her as mine," Matoe growled, showing that his wolf had begun to take control. "So did mine," Justin spat back, his eyes flickering from grey to a bright blue, as his wolf started to shift to the fore. Tension filled the air and malevolence permeated the atmosphere. Any minute now and a fight would erupt between them. Anxiety crawled up and down my skin as my chest tightened. Please, someone, stop them before they exchange blows because of me. Yet, everyone was silent watching the scene play out before them. Deciding that I had to be the one to do something, I cleared my throat and was about to speak when the orator spoke over the microphone. "Attention, attention all!" The orator began, trying to diffuse the tension. Mateo and Justin snapped their heads to him, distracted for a minute. "We have a very rare and uncommon situation happening tonight," the orator went on, "it appears Nivia Randolph has been claimed by two mates, which I must say is a daunting situation at best and a catastrophe at worst." Yes, I could agree with him. It was a catastrophe. When others couldn't get one, I was saddled with two, which meant I had just robbed someone else of a chance at getting a mate. All the more reasons for everyone to find me strange. The likes of Claire would hate me even more and the others would avoid me, thinking I had to be bad luck to take from others what could have been theirs. The orator scrubbed at his chin, seeming flustered by this situation. "I would like to invite Alpha Jaxon, Principal of the academy, to the stage, to make a decision on this matter," the orator announced. As we all waited for Alpha Jaxon, Justin's father to come on stage, I felt my stomach churn at what decision he might take. At this point, I was nervous and confused. I hated being in the spotlight, I preferred to blend in rather than to stand out. A habit I had imbibed after many years of being invisible to the world. I saw Alpha Jaxon come on stage and receive the microphone from the orator. I took in a deep breath even as I felt both Mateo and Justin hold their breaths beside me. Even the crowd around us seemed to be holding their breaths as the place grew eerily still and quiet. What would he say? "This is truly a confusing situation because both boys are being led by the instincts of their wolves and claim that she is their fated mate. Usually, the female would confirm the bond if her wolf is present with her, but as we all know, Nivia is yet to receive the spirit of the wolf." Alpha Jaxon paused, then went on, "My decision is..." he turned over and faced me directly. Gosh, I was so anxious that I could feel my body tremble. "My decision is that Nivia Randolph picks one from the two of them," Alpha Jaxon finished his speech with a flourish. Everyone's shoulders sagged in relief, including mine. I could see people in the audience nod in agreement with his decision. However, my relief was short-lived when I realized the responsibility he had just placed on my shoulders. I gazed up and found Mateo looking at me with a plea in his eyes that said; 'Pick me, Nivia. I am your friend and your best choice.' Meanwhile, Justin was staring down at me with an intense look that whispered; 'I know you want me, here is your chance to have me.' I managed to drag my gaze from their faces and looked at the crowd who were now speculating among themselves: "Who will she pick?" I opened my mouth... Speechless, I closed it back. Swallowing thickly, I opened my mouth for the second time and I saw Mateo and Justin slightly lean towards me, anticipating my answer. "I choose ..."Claire POV.As I stormed towards the abandoned block, Kyle followed closely behind, his quiet footsteps a testament to his loyalty. I could feel my anger boiling over, and I knew I needed to let it out before I exploded.I entered into the building, my eyes scanning the crumbling structure as I tried to calm my racing thoughts. Kyle entered as well and stopped beside me, his eyes fixed on mine, waiting for me to unleash the storm brewing inside me."Claire, calm down," he said with a knowing look. It was like he could see through me and knew what had just transpired with Justin.Anyway, I wasn't having it. I spun around, my eyes blazing with fury."Calm down? Are you kidding me?" I spat, my voice venomous. "Justin just rejected me, and you're telling me to calm down? He chose that...that...Nivia over me! I'll make him regret it, Kyle. I'll make him pay for choosing her over me."Kyle's eyes never left mine, his expression a mask of calm and understanding. "You will, Claire. You'll m
Claire POV.The silence that followed was palpable, the tension between us thick with anticipation. Would he say yes? My heart was pounding in my chest, waiting for his response. The moment was intense as I gazed into Justin's eyes, my heart racing with anticipation. His response to my kiss had given me the courage to take the leap, to lay my heart on the line.Justin looked at me, his eyes wide with surprise, and for a moment, I thought I saw a glimmer of excitement. But it was quickly replaced with a hesitant expression."Claire, we're in high school," he began, his voice low and cautious. "We can't get engaged. We're too young, and I...I have other commitments."I frowned, "Commitments? What commitments?" I demanded, interested to know. His eyes dropped, and he looked away, his jaw clenching. "It's not that simple, Claire. You know I now have a...mate.""So?" I laughed, "It doesn't matter. She doesn't even want the mate bond.""It matters," he said firmly. "We're working on it–"
Claire POV"Wraiths?" Alpha Jaxon exclaimed as he pulled back from the window."Yes, vengeful spirits that turned into wraiths due to their bitter grudge," Miss Antoinette affirmed, pulling back from the window as well."You mean to say that there are evil spirits in our school right now?" His brows shot up, and he looked incredulous."Indeed," the witch answered calmly. "And they are responsible for the decay of your environment. They carry around bad energy that plagues every living thing in their wake.""What the hell are they doing in my school?" He asked, sounding annoyed. She leveled him with a stare, "You know why they are here."His attention shifted to me, "That'll be all, Claire. You can leave my office," he dismissed me."What of my reward?" I demanded."We'll discuss it later, Claire," he said, and his eyes darted to the door, giving me the signal to leave. My eyes moved from him to the witch and narrowed. I knew they wanted me to leave so they could discuss more secret s
Nivia POV.The atmosphere in the room shifted, and the space crackled with electric energy. My eyes darted to Mateo and Suzanne, but they were still engrossed with each other, oblivious to the presence of the wraiths, which only meant I was the only one able to see them.I swallowed hard, a lump forming in my throat. Today was supposed to be my birthday, a day of joy for me. But from the moment I woke up, it's been from one crazy experience to another. My eyes shifted back to the dark figures, and I felt another wave of terror wash over me, keeping me locked in place, unable to move a single muscle. They said they were the spirits of the dead and they were here for me...But how did they find me? Of all the students in this school, why did they come for me?"We came because you are the moonchild, your power called to us," they answered, their voices sounding like a thousand timbrels."When did I ever call you..." I started to ask out loud when the question died on my lips as I sudden
Nivia POV.What is he doing?I asked myself as I sat dumbstruck, watching him from across the class. The classroom was currently empty because most of the students had run out of the building, scurrying to go see what was happening outside.Twenty minutes ago, we were in the middle of a lesson, and our maths teacher was giving us a lecture on Pythagoras' theory when a student screamed out in fear.Everyone, including our teacher, quickly rushed to the windows to see the source of the scream.Outside, below, a junior student stood, frightened and trembling with fear, in the middle of the schoolyard, while around her, everything had turned to a brown mess. Our trees, flowers, and lawn had suddenly turned grey, the colors fading and the leaves wilting to dry dust.Gasping in shock, my classmates had run out of the class, joining other students in the hallway, and together they all rushed outside, wanting to get a better view.I should have followed them.I should be outside, gasping with
Claire POV.I could see the surprise on his face as he heard my demand."Wow, what a tough demand for a reward," he mused wistfully, his eyes never leaving mine.I was sure he hadn't expected that I would use the reward as my chance to get engaged to Justin. But what other choice did I have? I couldn't let Nivia have him."Isn't this what you've always wanted, Alpha Jaxon?" I pressed on, "For Justin and me to end up together.""Well..." He said, trailing off."You can use this as an excuse to get us engaged," I offered."Well," he said, lacing his fingers together. "What I want is irrelevant, what matters is what my son wants. Since you're not fated mates, I have no reason to force him into a union unless, of course, he wants it. So I suggest you talk to him about it."At his words, my eyes raked over him.Why did it feel like he was deflecting? Our families were close, and we had been friends for years. I thought he'd wanted me and his son to be together. But now, sitting across the
