Rafaele and Jax left, leaving just Rina and Luna Rosa in the kitchen.
Rina gathered the plates and put them in the sink. "It's okay dear, leave it. The helpers will take care of it." Luna Rosa told her. "Oh it's okay mother, there aren't much, I can finish them quickly." Rina objected. Luna Rosa turned Rina around to face her. She cupped her cheek. "Rita dear, I don't know what happened to you but I am happy with the new Rita and I am sure Rafaele is too." She smiled at her and left the kitchen. Rina slumped against the sink, feeling very tired despite it just been morning. What was going on? Rita always had nice things to say about her mate and this family whenever she came home. But it was clear things weren't as she had said it. She would talk to her sister when she came back. What was her problem? Was she too hung up on Adrian to treat her mate and his family well? Hopefully this two days would finally get Adrian out of her mind and make her focus on her mate. After washing the plates, Rina went up to freshen up, she looked among Rita clothes for something to wear. She sighed, despite being identical twins, she and Rita couldn't be more different. Their fashion choices were so different. She finally settled on a dress which made her feel like a princess about to be saved by a prince. After dressing up, Rina was so bored, she didn't have anything to do. She went through Rita books, there were all fashion magazines of werewolf latest styles. She went down to the stairs. Maybe Rafaele would have something she could read. She went into his study, hopefully Rita had entered her mate's study and this wouldn't be strange. Somehow, despite all the info Rita had given her, it seemed all she had done was raise their suspicions. Rina soon found a book on the ancient history of werewolves, it was an edition she had never read. She soon settled down on the sofa in the study to start reading. Rafaele was in his office, however he was not working, he was staring at the lunch container in front of him. What was going on with his mate? He had fallen for Rita, the first time he saw her, her beauty and bubbling personality had attracted him to her. But soon after bringing her home, he had realized Rita wasn't the typical mate, it seemed she wasn't into him or interested in building a home with him. The more he tried, the worse it got. So what had come over her this morning, making a delicious breakfast, making him lunch, sitting with his family, and calling his mother, mother. This was strange. "What are you thinking about?" Jax asked him as he walked into the office. "Rita." "Hmmm, and what about her?" "Don't you think she acted strange this morning?" "Strange? I see she acted just as a normal mate" "But Rita has never acted as a proper mate, so I am a bit surprised." "well haven't you always been praying to the goddess to make her a good mate, it seems like your prayer has been answered." "But isn't it too sudden, it seems she is a complete new person." "Rafaele my friend you do have a lot of complaints, first you didn't like that Rita wasn't acting as a proper mate, now she is acting like a proper mate and you still aren't happy. Pick your battle Rafaele" "Fine, let's see how long this new attitude will last." "be optimistic Rafaele." "Okay, I will." "So do you have the document Alpha Reese asked for?" Jax asked him. "Oh no! I forgot it, with all the drama about Rita's breakfast, I didn't remember to take it." "oh no! What are we going to do, should we send someone to the house?" Jax asked worriedly. "No, there won't be a need for that, you know how I hate people going through my things. I will just go home." "Hmm,are you going home for just the documents or to see Rita?" Jax asked teasingly. "I don't know what you are talking about" Rafaele replied as he left the office. "Come back soon" Jax called after him. Rafaele walked back to the pack house, as he walked, he answered greetings from the pack members. He observed sadly, how they asked after his mother and Rain but no one asked about Rita. In the three years, she had been here, she hadn't made any effort to integrate herself into the pack. Maybe now, hopefully she had changed. Maybe things would be better. He got to the pack house and went straight to his study. To his surprise, he met someone there, it was Rita. She looked so engrossed in the book she was reading. Wait a minute! Since when did his mate start reading history books? "What are you doing?" he asked. She jumped up, dropping the book on the floor. "Oh! I am so sorry." she apologized as she picked up the book. "What are you doing here?" he asked again. "reading, I was so bored so I took one of your books to read, I am really sorry" she apologized. Rafaele walked towards her. "You have been acting really strange today." "What do you mean?" she asked him, taking a step back as he approached. "You made breakfast, you haven't even entered the kitchen to cook since the day I brought you home. Then you made me lunch, Rita, you are usually asleep by the time I leave for work. And now you are in my study, you have never been here, and since when do you even like history?" "I...I...I" Rina stuttered. It wasn't even up to three hours and Rafaele already knew something was strange. She had warned Rita this would happen but her obstinate sister had refused to see reason. Sit and smile my ass. Rafaele had her pinned against the wall. "Tell me Rita, what do you want?" he asked.Stefan carried Kaia back to the same hidden underground room where he had kept her before. He laid her gently on the small cot and waited, his eyes watching her closely for any signs of movement. The potion’s effects had been powerful, and for a brief moment, he wondered if she’d truly wake. But then, after what felt like forever, her fingers twitched.Kaia groaned softly and blinked, her gaze unfocused as she stirred awake. She looked around, confused, then finally settled her eyes on him.“It worked,” she whispered.Stefan gave a rare, small smile. “Yes. You’re safe now, your mother played her part well. The king believes you are dead.”Kaia nodded slowly, rubbing her eyes. “She must have been scared.”“She was,” Stefan said gently. “But she didn’t let it show.”Kaia looked away, her face solemn. “What happens now?”“You rest,” Stefan said, standing up. “Stay here. I will be back soon.”With that, he left the room and made his way back to the palace. She looked up when he entere
The door opened and Stefan stepped into the room. Rita stood near the fireplace, clutching a small glass vial in her hand, she rushed to him when she saw him.“You’re back,” she said softly, her voice unsure. He nodded stiffly, his expression was unreadable. She couldn't tell what he was thinking. She placed the potion in his hand carefully, avoiding direct eye contact.“This will make her appear dead,” she said quietly. “Meridia gave it to me herself. It carries her magic, Kaia will look lifeless, there will be no heartbeat or pulse. But she’ll be fine, after a few hours.”Stefan turned the vial slowly between his fingers, the contents within glowed with a soft green shimmer. He stared at it in silence, clearly torn.Rita looked at him, brow furrowed. “You are hesitating,” she said. “Why are you hesitating?”He clenched his jaw. “Because I hate that this is even necessary.”“But at least Kaia lives,” Rita said gently. “That’s better than letting the king get his hands on her, or wo
Rita slowly approached a house and knocked on the door. She had to be cautious not to attract attention. The door opened and a a woman with white long hair peered at her suspiciously. From her eyes, Rita could see she had been crying, her heart went out to her."Who are you?" she asked."Are you Meridia?" Rita asked."Yes, I am Meridia. Who are you?""Please I need to talk to you, it's really urgent" Rita told her.She looked even more suspicious, "who are you?""Please let me in and I will explain."Meridia contemplated for some minutes before letting Rita in.Rita entered the house, "can you put on a silencing spell around the house so no one can hear our conversation.""Why? What do you want? Did the king send you to kill me? I will do what he wants, I just want him to spare my daughter." she pleaded with Rita.Rita removed her cloak covering her face."the king didn't send me but someone else did.""Who?""Stefan"Her eyes got even bigger and she stepped back."The hunting dog? He
"You have a plan?" Stefan asked."Yes, but it depends on how good a actress her mother is?"Stefan frowned curiously."What do you mean, 'how good an actor?' how does the plan work?""We are going to do the exact same thing I did, fake a death.""But how, the king will know""Isn't she a powerful witch? Plus there is one thing you aren't considering""what's that?""Your loyalty, have you eve gone against the king?" she asked."No, I have never done that""So he wouldn't suspect a thing"Stefan was conflicted, he had never gone against the king before. But then he remembered how Kaia had looked at him and that was all the motivation he needed."I will do it" he immediately agreed. "But she hates me, she knows I was the one in charge of kidnapping her child, why would she believe me?" Stefan asked. "That's true, then, I will talk to her" Rita said. "How are you going to get there unnoticed?" Stefan wondered. "I and Teresa will have to go shopping.""But what if the king suspects yo
Stefan glanced at the young girl tied up. He had put her underground, she couldn't access her powers."Why did you kidnap me?" she asked. He kept quiet and didn't answer her."Please don't hurt my mother" she told him."nothing is happening to your mother, she will be fine" he answered this time.Stefan didn't want her to worry about her mother."I am Kaia, what's your name?" she introduced herself."I can't tell you that""Am I here because my mother doesn't support the king?"Stefan kept quiet."If the king sent someone to kidnap me to hurt my mother, maybe that's why nobody likes him" she continued.Stefan couldn't resist smiling at this, she was very cheeky."You smiled, I was beginning to think you were carved from stone.""are you always this talkative?" he asked."Yes, my mother says I am like a parrot""she is right, you are like a parrot. And I should know, I have one at home""You have a parrot?" she asked, curiosity in her eyes."No, but I have someone at home who talks a l
Stefan stood before the throne where the King sat.“I have a task for you,” the king said, sipping from a gold goblet filled with blood.Stefan gave a sharp nod, eyes cold. “What is it, Your Majesty?”“There’s a witch, Meridia. She has been aiding one of my rivals. Hiding his scouts and sending him visions. I want her silenced.”Stefan tilted his head slightly. “Assassination?”The king smirked. “No. That would be too easy. I want her daughter taken. A child’s grief weakens a mother. And a weakened witch makes mistakes.”Stefan’s jaw tightened. His fingers curled at his side.“She is only a child,” he said slowly, choosing his words carefully. The king’s eyes narrowed, a flicker of amusement and irritation in his expression. “Do I detect hesitation, Stefan?”Stefan didn’t answer. The king stood now, walking toward him. “I allow you to breathe here, Stefan. I let you wear the royal crest and bear my name even though your mother was a filthy half blood I should’ve erased. And now you
