A little closure

Lucas walked out of the inner room and into the sitting room, where Emma was waiting for him. "Are you hungry?" he asked.

Emma was taken aback by the question. Not like she knew how werewolves behave but she had expected him to be more aggressive or menacing, not nicely offering her food. "Uh, yes," she replied cautiously.

Lucas nodded and walked towards the kitchen. "I'll make us something to eat," he said over his shoulder.

Emma followed him, still trying to process the fact that she was sitting in a werewolf's Cabin. "Do you cook often?" she asked, trying to make small talk. She was also trying to confirm that he wouldn’t serve her a strangled deer or bush rat if that was what werewolves ate.

Lucas looked at her with a confused expression. "Of course," he said. “I've had to learn to fend for myself. My parents passed away a few years ago and I haven't had a girlfriend to cook for me." He chuckled sarcastically

Emma's heart drops a little at the mention of a girlfriend. She's not sure why she feels this way, but she tries to focus on the conversation.

They reached the kitchen and Lucas began to rummage through the cabinets and fridge. How was there even a fridge in this small cabin? Forget about the fridge, how was there electricity?

Emma watched him curiously, noticing that he moved with a surprising grace for someone of his size and build. He seemed to be having trouble finding something to cook.

"Do you feed in your wolf form?" she asked suddenly, unable to contain her curiosity any longer.

Lucas stopped what he was doing and turned to look at her. "What do you mean?" he asked, genuinely confused.

Emma blushed, feeling foolish for asking. "I mean, do you hunt for your food or something?" she clarified.

Lucas shook his head. "No, I hate the taste of blood," he said. "If that's what you're asking."

Emma felt a wave of relief wash over her. She hadn't been afraid that he would eat her, but knowing that he didn't like fresh meat was still reassuring.

Lucas noticed her expression and frowned. "Is everything okay?" he asked.

Emma nodded quickly. "Yes, sorry. I'm just not used to all of this," she said, gesturing around the kitchen.

Lucas sighed. "I can imagine," he said. "But you'll get used to it. Living in a town like Beacon Hills, you have to be prepared for anything."

Emma smiled weakly, not entirely convinced that she was ready for anything. But she knew she had no other choice. She had to adapt to her new surroundings, and quickly.

“So… I am short of supplies. Do you want snacks or would you like some fresh bacon?” Lucas asked coldly after searching through all the cupboards and shelves in the kitchen.

“Oh, snacks will do.” She replied, “and I will be back in the sitting room,” she added with a smile and walked out of the kitchen. She wanted to look around the place a bit and also not bother him while he did his thing.

As Lucas walks back into the room with the plate of snacks and a bottle of coke, Emma tries to suppress her curiosity and not ask too many questions, but her mind is racing. She looks around the room, taking in the rustic decorations and the flickering fire in the fireplace.

"Is this where you live?" she asks, gesturing to the cabin.

Lucas nods, "Yeah, it's been my home for a while now."

"It's so isolated," she comments, "Why did you choose to live out here in the middle of the woods?"

Lucas groans lightly, "I guess I just like my privacy. Plus, it's easier to control my shifts out here without risking hurting anyone. Also, the Packhouse is not too far from here, I can sprint down there in seconds if any of the pack members need my attention. I also get to keep my eyes on things out here."

Emma nods, understanding the reasoning behind his choice of location, she is tempted to ask about his Packhouse and Pack members, what did it even mean? But she held back. She takes a seat on the couch again, eyeing the snacks in his hands.

Lucas hands her the plate of snacks and bottle of coke, "Here you go. Sorry, it's not much, I don't really have anyone over that often."

Emma hesitated before she took a bite of the snack, and then she let out a contented hum. "It's good, thank you."

They sit in comfortable silence, snacking and taking in the warmth of the fireplace. Emma's mind is still racing with questions, but she decides to take a break from them and enjoy the moment.

Emma takes a deep breath, gathering her courage before asking, "What did you mean earlier about my family having a connection with the supernatural world?"

Lucas looks at her with his icy blue eyes and takes a moment before answering, "Your family has a history with the supernatural world, dating back over five centuries. Your ancestors were once werewolf hunters, but they gave up that life as civilization approached and wolves went into hiding."

Emma's eyes widen with surprise, "Werewolf hunters? I had no idea!"

Lucas nods without speaking further, they both ate quietly for a while and then Lucas breaks the silence. "You know, you never did answer my question earlier. Why did you come back to town? And where are your parents?"

Emma hesitates, unsure if she should divulge the real reason behind her return. But something in Lucas's gaze makes her trust him enough to tell him.

Emma's heart sank. "They passed away a few weeks ago," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. “I can't tell why I returned to this town, it felt like there was something calling me over here, I had to listen.”

Lucas' expression softened again, and he gave her a sympathetic look. "I'm sorry," he said. "I didn't mean to bring up painful memories."

"It's fine," Emma replied, her voice unsteady. "I've had some time to come to terms with it."

Lucas nodded. "Well, it's been a long day. I think it's best if you get some rest," he said, standing up from the old couch. "We can discuss the Lycan attack tomorrow and try to figure out what's going on."

Emma nodded, feeling grateful for the chance to rest. She stood up and followed Lucas to a small bedroom across the sitting room. He showed her where the bathroom was and then left her alone to rest. She could tell that it was his room and she wondered where he would spend the night if he gave her his bed.

As she lay down on the bed, Emma couldn't help but think about her parents and everything Lucas had told her. She wondered how they were able to keep such a big secret from her and if it had something to do with their mysterious death.

She sighed as the sleep slowly began to kick in, it was cold in there and she noticed that Lucas had no blanket, she stretched her hand and grabbed one of his shirts and used it to wrap herself. She loved the way it smelled, and before long she fell asleep.

"Feet shoulder-width apart, and make sure your dominant foot is slightly behind the other one."Emma adjusted her stance as he instructed, holding the gun firmly in her hands.
