He woke up to darkness; it was already dawn. There was no sight of the beast anywhere and no noise. The only sound that could be heard was the rushing of the water as it moved almost violently back and forth from the shore. He couldn't decide if the silence was scarier than the chaos he had witnessed here. He stood up, turned around, and there it was.

Crouched a few feet away from him was a large wolf, almost larger than him, an Alpha wolf. It was a female, that much he could smell. She had shining black fur, so black that she almost blended in with the night. The only thing that didn’t blend in were her eyes, a moon-shaped symbol in the center of her eyes and a streak that ran a straight line on her coat across her back from her head down to the tip of her tail. She had pitch-white, bottomless eyes. The symbol on her head was gold with a white outline, with the same color and outline on her back and her tail. The tip of her tail, however, was the same pitch black as her coat. She was unlike anything he had ever seen before; she was gorgeous.

She was whimpering while shaking feebly; she was in pain, he realized. The pain she was in seemed to be increasing by the moment. Not knowing what to do, he walked towards her cautiously with his eyes not wavering even a bit from her so as not to alarm her. On getting to her, he crouched and tried to carry her to see what was causing her pain. As soon as he touched her, he felt a sense of calm wash over his entire being as his body relaxed.

The same seemed to have happened to the wolf as she crawled into his lap, trying desperately to enter into the man that was bringing her relief. With her head on his lap, she sighed with her tongue out. He chuckled at this, and she lifted her head to watch him. He immediately stopped, not wanting to scare her away; she let out a dog-like scoff and returned her head back into his lap. He gingerly brought his hand up to run it through her fur. The moan of satisfaction she gave encouraged him to continue.

Five minutes later, he was full-on stroking her now while humming underneath his breath. It seemed to calm her more. Not long after that, she was full-on asleep. This continued till morning; he looked around to see it was already morning. He gingerly carried her head off his lap and stood up. He had not walked very far when he heard her growling unsatisfactorily. She trotted over to him, still growling under her breath, and came to a stop directly in front of him.

Seeing her in her full glory once again left him speechless. She was even more stunning in the light. Looking at her tail, he found it was even longer than a normal wolf’s. It was more like that of a lion with the only difference being the color.

He bent down to her height and let his hand run through the fur on her head. “I’ll be back tomorrow, little wolf.” She shook her body and growled indignantly at the little comment. He chuckled, and this time she gave him a doggy smile with her tongue out.

“Alright then, not so little, got it. But on a more serious note, I’ll be back tomorrow. Wait for me?” He questioned.

She just pulled him with her teeth to his trousers back to their original position. She nudged him into sitting back to his original sitting position. She then laid back with her head on his lap. She shifted around uncomfortably for a while before raising her head to pull his hand back to her fur. Nestling her head into his lap, she was soon out like a light. He soon followed suit.

When he woke up, she was no longer on his lap but rather curled up majestically, licking her fur by a corner. She stopped and raised her head up when she saw he was awake. He took that as a sign that he could leave now. He waved his hand at her and promised to be back tonight. She slightly nodded her head before going back to cleaning her fur by licking it. But that was enough for him; he left the palm-front fence with a smile. He had left before he realized the waters had calmed down.

ALPHA JAMES POVThe office is quiet. Too quiet. Apart from the ancient grandfather clock ticking in the distance, I couldn’t hear a thing. I leaned back in my office chair after trying unsuccessfully to concentrate on the pile of pack documents spread across my desk. I know deep down why I cant concentrate but I refuse to acknowledge it. The weekly visits I pad to her cottage were becoming as necessary to me as they were dangerous, a dangerous thrill that clawed at my control and took over my mind whenever she wasn’t around me. The door creaked open breaking the silence and conveniently scattering my thoughts . I looked up quickly masking my irritation as Caitlyn slipped inside. Her dark hair was pinned back to match the elegant silk red gown flowing over her figure. I caught the sharp look in her bright eyes as it settled on me. . This wasn’t going to be good.“Jaamesss babyyyyy,” she slurred in her patronizing fake yodel voice. I used to love her voice but now it caused disgust to

Alpha James's P.o.vJames’s patience was wearing thin with each step he took into the dense forest. The stupid twisting forest with its tall and dead trees only irritated him further. The path he was on was narrow with thorns and shrubs that kept on snagging his clothes and scraping his skin. He muttered a curse and shoved them aside with force, his brows furrowing as he stomped angrily through the forest.“I’m an Alpha for crying out loud,” he muttered under his breath holding a glare at the path in front of him. “And yet here I am stumbling and cutting through this godforsaken forest for a witch.” He had left his guards and carriage behind at her last warning . A decision he as now regretting. Yet, he felt more like a lone fool than the Alpha he’d fought so hard to become. He angrily cut through the last thicket and there it was. A small, rickety house. “I can’t take it anymore, Paul. We need to do something. I can’t stand looking at him anymore. I hate him so much. Oh, goddess, I just want to step all over his cursed face,” I whispered to Paul, pacing across my office with rage.“Have patience, My Lord; we’ll figure out something. We always do,” Paul replied, trying to calm me.“It’s been six months, Paul, six whole months. Six months filled with nights of praying that he is killed off in the Troubled Waters just like every other goddamned mortal that ever goes there, and mornings seeing him walk back to the pack with that cursed smile on his face. I can’t take it anymore. It feels like I might go mad if I continue to see his face,” I ranted exasperatedly, pulling at my hair. I imagined how I must look like to him now, and suddenly I couldn’t bear to see his face anymore.“You may leave now, Paul; you’re dismissed,” I ordered, waving him away. I watched his back until he got out of the room, shutting the door behind him.#My eyes w

Dalton’s P.O.V I couldn’t stop thinking of the wolf. I can’t define it; it’s just there. I’ve been sleeping at the Troubled Waters for about 2 weeks now, and she just shows up every day to curl up beside me. I swear I’ve never felt so much at peace in my life. Sometimes it feels like I've known the wolf all my life, like I grew up with her, like I’m connected to her. I used to feel like this for Caitlyn, but that was understandable; she’s my mate. Up until I came across the wolf, that is. It wasn’t possible for a shifter to be gifted with two mates. What am I even thinking about? I wasn’t even sure she was a shifter and not a pure wolf. Goddess, I need to figure this out soon before I go mad. My thoughts were interrupted by the list of chores handed to me. What an irony life was, a pure Alpha Bloodbeing asked to wash toilets, but I’d do anything for my son, so off we go. It was already nightfall by the time I finished all the chores on the list and slowly made my way in the directio
