Chapter 1

"Yes, baby, I want you."

The kisses were sloppy as she watched with bewildered eyes.

"Jeremy!” She gasped in shock, her chest heaving as she watched him kiss another lady while unbuckling his belt. He moved away from the kiss instantly and looked at her in surprise. He must not have expected her to be here.

‘What was she doing here, by the way? And how did she get the key to his house?’ These were thoughts infiltrating his now disoriented mind.

Jeremy gulped hard, staring at her directly with teary eyes. She caught him. She did this time. She sniffed and trudged back into the room in anger. She started picking each bag she brought. Jeremy left the lady he was with and rushed after her into the room.

“Babe…” He pleaded. She halted for a while and glared daggers at him with tears running through her green eyes.

“Don’t you dare!!!” She yelled at him sternly and packed her heels into the bag. Just as she was about to pick up her bag, he held her hands.

“If that hand touches me….” She jerked her hands away and held up the remaining things she had brought.

“Babe, I‘m sorry,” Jeremy begged as he tried to stop her from carrying her bags.

How could he do something like that to her? After all, she did for him. She crept out of the room and returned to carry a portrait she had brought and vacated the room. All this while, Jeremy kept pleading with her, moving here and there to stop her.

Sweat dripped down his forehead, and his shirt was already soaked. He caught hold of her hands as she exited his house. She turned around and gave him a resounding slap.

“If you ever lay your filthy hands on me, I will kill you.” She gritted her teeth menacingly and snatched her hands away from him.

“After all, we had Jeremy. Everything we did together. After the love we shared. I chose you over all the guys that asked me to be their girlfriend. I turned them all down because of you. Yet you chose to cheat on me with this—” she pointed to the lady watching the entire drama unfold.

“How dare you? How dare you, Jeremy? You disappointed me.” She said with spite and rage.

“Tell me, what does she have that I don't? Brains? Ass? Nice tits? Jeremy Maxwell, it's over between us.” She said with finality and a sniff before dashing out of his house.

"Ophelia, I‘m sorry.” He cried out after her. Just as he was about to follow, the lady he had brought home stopped him seductively.

“Do you want to leave me for that bitch?” She asked as she began to unbutton his shirt. He suddenly became immobile. He looked between the both of them, Ophelia's retreating and the temptress that was in front of him. He could not make a choice. He chose sex over love.

Ophelia continued dabbing off the tears that kept falling freely. She definitely could not believe it. He has been cheating on her all this while?! She trusted him. She did.

After all, he was her first love and boyfriend. As she got to the main road, she signaled a cab to stop. And it stopped almost immediately; she opened the door and stepped in, throwing her bags on the seat.

“Where to, ma'am?” The driver asked.

“The airport.” She replied to him. She sobbed out and facepalmed. She was heartbroken.

How did this happen? How?

Flashback

“Ma'am, we have arrived.” The cabman announced to her. She slowly opened her eyes and looked out of the window. She smiled willfully and passed his pay to him before getting down.

“Thank you.” She said with a smile. Opening the booth of his cab, she carried her bags and stepped aside for him to drive off. She turned around and walked towards his door. She knocked on the door but did not get a response. She grinned as she remembered the surprise she was planning for him.

“I think he said he keeps his key in the corner of his house. Where is it?” she mused as she looked around, searching the flower pot on the windowsill outside.

Just as she was about to turn, her elbow hit a place, and the key fell with a thud. She swerved around swiftly and saw the key on the floor.

“Found it!” She beamed a little smile and picked it. She pushed the key into the keyhole and twisted it. She turned the doorknob and pushed it open. She sniffed in the air of his living room.

That bachelor scent. She shuddered a little and yawned. An eleven hours and some minutes journey from London to Los Angeles was not something she could just let go of without feeling sleepy. She dragged her feet towards his kitchen and poured water into a cup before gulping it down.

“Wow, his apartment is quite homely.” She thought. She released a deep relief and returned to the living room. She pushed up the cream-colored curtains, and the sun of the noon seeped in. She shaded her face away and pulled up the remaining curtains.

She placed before her chairs dark brown fur materials, an average flat screen, and a speaker set. Perks of being a male with no lady at home. She chuckled. Since they started dating, she has been unable to visit him at his house. All they do is video chat.

Well, their relationship could be one they call a long-distance relationship. She walked towards the three-seater chair and slumped down on it. She went through her phone messages and saw the time was 3:14 PM.

She went ahead to re-read the birthday message she had sent to him at precisely midnight. It was no lie she stayed awake to send that. She breathed out with relief as she rested her head on the chair and slowly dozed off.

A message alert beeped on her phone, making her open her eyes. She looked at the time and saw that it was 5:13 PM. Almost two hours of sleep. She rubbed her eyes sleepily and stood up.

“Oh my gosh, I need to prepare before he returns.” She thought aloud as she remembered what she had come here to do for him.

It was his twenty-fifth birthday, and she was here to surprise him. She hurriedly ran to the room and pulled out the clothes and heels she had brought. I quickly ran to the bathroom and had a clean bath with a shave.

She wanted to give him a special gift. Something so special. She bit on her lower lip as she envisioned it.

After she was done, she wore a free shirt she got from his wardrobe with a tube bra under; she was having second thoughts about not wearing a tube bra, with a pair of baggy trousers to show just how homely she was.

She packed her hair into a messy bun and stared at the mirror in his room as she applied lip gloss. She has to make this night special. She sat down and awaited him.

“Maybe I should cook before he comes back.” She grinned at the thought and hurried into the kitchen. The dinner could even make it more romantic. She thought. She brought the utensils she was going to use and started.

After she was done with the cooking, she carried the food in a tray and placed it on the dining table. She did not have enough money, or else she would have bought some decorative stuff to celebrate his birthday, but it did not matter anyways.

She checked the time, and it was already 8:30 PM. She breathed out.

“I thought he said he would return by 7:00 PM or earlier. Why isn't he back home yet?” She thought with worry. She sighed.

Then suddenly, she heard the door knob twist and push open.

“Jeremy, you've got to calm down. I am all yours tonight.” A lady giggled as Jeremy kept planting kisses on her neck.

“You don't know how I want this body of yours.” He groaned as he started unbuckling his belt. They fell on the chair, and Jeremy managed his position between the lady's thighs, still kissing.

Ophelia stared at it all in shock and confusion. She did not even know how to react. Her eyes were dilated in shock and daze.

“Calm down, and let's have a cool bath before starting.” She slurred her words, and just as they were about to stand up and move into the room.

“Jeremy!” She gasped in shock. His eyes went wide in surprise.

Back to the present:

She looked around Los Angeles. The city was bustling and sightless. She had planned to roam the streets with her boyfriend at night with lights everywhere, making it so colorful. Give him surprise kisses.

Go to the game center and play some games. Go to an ice cream bar and enjoy themselves. She had planned all this, but he just ruined this. He swallowed it all.

Ophelia realized at that moment that she had been daydreaming about all this. She had watched her father beat up her mom, even to the extent of raping her.

At that, she had sworn not to fall for any other man, but Jeremy had convinced her that he would always be by her side, but now she was all alone. She broke into even more tears.

She looked away from the window, and no matter how she tried to stop the tears from falling, she could not. She could not believe it, but she saw it. So clearly. She had been with him for the past three years, and he treated her well without flaws.

Then suddenly, the phone in her hands started buzzing with many messages and calls. She held it so tight that she wanted to crush it. She released it and switched it off.

“We have arrived.” The cabman announced. She looked around and realized that she had been in deep thought.

“Oh, thanks.” She muttered and paid him his fee. She stood in front of the Airport and stared at it like she was hoping all of this was a dream and that she and Jeremy could return to the lovely couple they once were, but no. It was impossible.

“LAX.” She thought. She entered the airport and went over to the counter.

“I need a ticket to London as soon as possible.” She said in her frail voice.

"Give me a moment to check, ma'am.” The stewardess said politely and looked back at the screen. She punched in a few clicks and then looked back at her.

"Yes. Taking off in ten minutes.” She said,

“Oh. Okay.” She said and collected it. She ran towards the waiting lounge.

After she was done with all the procedures, she went over to the airplane since it would be taking off in ten minutes. It was an eleven hours and some minutes journey... She can not wait to meet her mom. Her consoler.

"Tighten your seatbelt. We are about to take off.” They heard a voice say through the microphone. She sighed and did as she was told. You could see so many people also doing it. Slowly… ever slowly, she started dozing off.

•••

“Hey, ma'am.” She heard a distant voice call out to her.

Then she felt someone tap her a little. She slowly opened her eyes and stared at the person who had woken her up.

“Ain't you getting down?” the person said.

“Oh, s-sorry.” She stuttered.

She hissed out when she realized her body had gone stiff as she was about to stand up. She stretched out her bones and yawned willfully. She stepped out of the airplane.

“Home, finally home.” She thought as she went in to get her bags.

After all the passes, she was walking even faster, as if she was being chased. She needed to call home. Then suddenly, she bumped into someone.

"Ouch!" She winced out.

"I'm sorry, really sorry." She heard a masculine voice say as he tried to touch her. She looked up briefly and nodded her head before hurrying out. She signaled towards a black cab, which drove right in front of her. She opened the door and stepped in.

"Address, ma'am?" The man asked. She gave him the address and sighed. Her mind was numb. There was nothing else she could think about. Only him. But it causes her unbearable pain.

She looked around the place she had left a day ago. She had planned to stay for two months with him before leaving. But never had she thought she wouldn't even stay up to a week with him. She loved him to the extent of almost giving up her life in London for him, but he… he ruined it all.

“We have arrived.” The man said when he saw that she was not getting down.

They had already arrived at the place for like ten minutes, and she was not moving out.

“Thanks.” She said and stepped out of the car. She stood in front of the bungalow that they had managed to buy.

A woman came out with a basket full of dirt. She went over to the trash can and dumped it there. Then she looked around and saw a lady standing there.

She narrowed her eyes and then realized that it was her daughter, who had left a day before to visit her boyfriend, that was standing right there.

“Mom.” She called out as she ran towards her. Tears dropped down her face. She sniffed.

"What's wrong?” her mom asked with worry on her features. The Ophelia that left a day ago was full of joy, so who was this Ophelia? She was extremely worried as she pulled her into a comforting hug.

“He…” She sobbed out with a hiccup.

“Hey, calm down. You will tell me everything after drinking some water.” She cooed and held her hands.
