“Ophelia.” Her mother called out immediately after she heard her scream.
“Mom.” She cried out.
“Please, my daughter, open the door.” She begged her.
Ophelia stayed for some seconds before getting up and staggered towards the door. Maria heard the door lock click, and she pushed the door open only to see how deranged her daughter looked.
“Oh, good heavens.” She grumbled. She looked around and saw how disorganized the room looked.
“Ophelia, you can't keep doing this to yourself.” She shrieked.
Ophelia brought her mom closer and engulfed her in a tight hug. “Mom.” She called out.
“I'm here.” Her mother replied in a calm voice.
“Why are we so unfortunate when it comes to men?” she asked with her eyes dazed.
“My beloved daughter, we are not unfortunate. It is just that fate is preparing your ideal man for you.” Her mother consoled her and her lips curved in a grim smile.
“Ideal man, you say.” She hissed out and pulled away from the hug.
“Jeremy was my ideal man, but what did fate do? It took him away from me in the cruelest way ever.” She spat out in sudden anger. “We were doing all good before it decided to interfere in our lives.” She added.
It was in the middle of the night. They could hardly see each other, but the faint light made it possible.
“You know what I think? I think fate is against us. I think it does not want to know what it feels like to be loved and cherished, mom.” She said, crouching down to her knees and started crying again.
Her mother was already crying too. She remembered the past with her husband also. It hurts, but she has to act strong for her daughter.
“Ophelia, you know before you were born, your father used to love me..” She was talking when Ophelia interrupted her.
“Used to love you? Really? Huh, what happened after?” she shouted.
“All men are the same. All they do is hurt women's feelings without remorse.” She yelled with her breath harsh.
“Ophelia, I understand the pain you are going through. It is your first breakup and also heartbreak. That is why I want you to be strong for me. And for you.” Her mother pleaded.
“I don’t think I can, mom. I‘m too weak right now.” She mumbled and faced down.
“When am I going to stop thinking about him, mom?” She asked and looked her mom in the eye.
“When did you stop thinking about dad?” she asked, looking at her mother when she got no reply.
“It is quite impossible to stop, but you can do things that will prevent you from thinking about it.” Her mother answered without meeting her in the eye.
“D-Does that mean y-you still t-think about d-dad?” she asked with scrutiny.
Her mother swallowed hard and looked away.
“I courted him for three years and then married him for seven years. How do you expect me to let go so easily?” Her mother muttered.
“So you have not forgotten about that man and what he did to you,” Ophelia said, looking at her mother with irritated eyes.
“I‘m trying my best.” She said,
“That best is not enough,” Ophelia said sternly.
“Ophelia, calm down and think straight.” Her mother urged her.
“I will come to check on you tomorrow morning.” She dismissed and left for her room. Their discussion was slowly going awry.
“Goodnight,” Ophelia said. Maria heard but did not give a reply.

Maria entered her room and locked it. She went over to her wardrobe and brought out a photo frame. It was a picture they had taken on their wedding day. And it was the only one left as he had angrily burnt everything that night. He wanted her out of his life.
Maria sat on the bed and stared intensely at the photo frame in her hands. She misses him, but she dares not say it out. Although he mistreated her, she still had feelings for him. She was always in love with him. He loved her. Yes, he did. She also did not know where she had gone wrong.
“Please, God, Let my daughter find someone to protect and cherish her.” She prayed silently.
She saw how happy they looked. How could mother and daughter suffer the same fate? This was impossible.
She remembered how he looked when he knelt with his ever-handsome face and proposed his love to her. He had done it on the left, and people were clicking photos. She felt like the happiest woman on earth that day. And the foolish her was all over the moon, shoving her fingers straight into her friend's eye.
Was she not later disgraced?
She never knew what a devil he was before marrying him. She watched him sleep with sluts. Go to beer parlors. Spend his money on other ladies.
You want to know more. He rapes her even after he has satisfied himself with other ladies outside. He compares her to those ladies and tells her she is never sexy.
That all those lovey-dovey was because of a bet he and his friends had placed on her. He beats her almost to the extent of fainting. And yet she was not ready to leave. Her daughter had watched her dad beat her up.
You know they used to be one happy family. Whenever he comes back from work, she makes sure to give him a soothing massage, and it sometimes ends in romantic lovemaking. She made sure that his food was always ready even.
Especially when she was pregnant with Ophelia, he took care of her like the Queen of his empire. He prepares breakfast before he leaves, and then when he comes back, he cooks dinner. He gives her a massage with so much love.
She wished she could turn back the hands of time and see where she went wrong. She should have known he was only after… she heaved a sigh.
She kept thinking if she could endure the pain, he would change, but then he was full of surprises, you know.
“Is this fate, as my daughter finalized? Or is it just not being lucky when it comes to men?” She asked herself in sinks whispers.
~Ophelia's POV~My best friend, laid before me, with blood spilling from her lips and her eyes opened but lifeless. How the hell did this happen? How could I have forgotten that I was being followed? A waiter had come to meet Demetrius where I was standing and he had whispered in his ear. It was the look of shock that was his face that caught my attention and how the waiter was trembling. I knew something bad if not worse must have happened. I had asked him what was wrong only for him to walk outside and I followed him then I came in contact with this horrific view of the corpse of my best friend. How did it happen?Why... I don't even know what to do. Whether I should cry or just stare, I was shocked.Demetrius had called the cops and they would be here at any time but still I could not find myself moving away from Kelly's dead body. Our friendship had turned rocky ever since we came here. I tried to get back with her but she was not letting me in. And now she was dead. Like dead.
It was evening already and the guests were beginning to stride in. Ophelia was busy welcoming them, she had gone upstairs to change and Loretta had helped her mother into a nice dress and after so many resistance from Maria, she put a little make up on her face. "Thank you for coming." Ophelia said to one of the guests. They nodded their heads and made their way to the place. The cake was brought in by the waitering services and the party soon kicked start. Ophelia was very excited as she could not stop grinning from ear to ear as she watched everyone conversed. Demetrius went to stand close to her as he knew that she could need him at any moment. She turned to him with a appreciative look and he just shook his head."You deserve it and more." He said and she giggled. She was soon called on the podium and people began to drop their gifts then the cake cutting time came where she took pictures with people. The waiters began to serve the wine and everyone chatted away. Unaware to any
I looked up at Demetrius. "Someone is here?" Kelly asked."Come in." Loretta said and the door was pushed open. My mother stepped in, she looked around the place and then her eyes landed on me. My brows creases together."Mother..." She raised her hands to me."You..." She trailed off as she moved closed to us."So you now stay with a man? Or are you here for a celebration? Wait, you are the one celebrating?" She asked and I could feel the hurt in her voice."Mother...." I said as I moved closer to her."Stay away from me." She said, using her hand to make a distance between us."Ophelia." Demetrius called out. I turned to him."This is my mother." I said and his face brightened up."Didn't know you had one. Good day ma." He greeted with a polite smile."You are... That stupid boss of hers?" She asked and I gulped softly.Demetrius turned to look at me with an amused smile then back at her. "Considering that we are meeting for the first time, I will introduce myself. I am Demetrius Va
Weeks later....~Ophelia's POV~Gosh, no one told me morning sickness could be this bad. But–Water splashed on my face and I yelped out."What the heck? Demetrius?!" I yelled out in shock. Water dripped down from my hair to my night gown."Happy Birthday!" Kelly and Demetrius squealed and I could not help but glare at them."I know you wanted to surprise me but do you have to wet me with water like this?!" I asked them and they scoffed. The both of them, Ha!"Happy Birthday to you, Ophelia." Loretta came in with a gift in her hand. Gentle lady manner.I looked around. "Where is Maureen?" I asked. That little devil."She...." Demetrius scratched the back of his neck."How about you dress quickly and come downstairs?" He asked instead and I knew that there was something going on. I stared at him with interest and he shrugged with a smile on his lips. I snorted and climbed down the bed. They both exited the room for me and I picked out the clothes I will be wearing. My baby bump was not
PART FIVE~Demetruis' POV~She is carrying my child? My own freaking child? My child. And she left me. What if something happened to her? Or to the kid?I pulled the car over and stepped out. I walked towards the entrance of Emery's house. Pushing the door open, not caring to knock, I walked inside.I saw her, the devil herself, sitting there with a smoke in her hands and watching Netflix. Spoilt brat."You came back?" She asked as she faced me with a amused look."No, I did not. And will never." I bit out as I clenched my fist from going straight for her plastic chin. Instead I moved closer to her, I leaned over, almost choking on the awful cigarette smell. This brand was really really hard, I wonder how is she yet to run mad. Even I must not take these. Well, what do you expect from someone like Emery?"I know what you did." I whispered and I noticed her throat burp and she choked on the smoke.Good.She started coughing out and reached for the drink. I took it away in a swift motio
PART FOUR~Ophelia's POV~Loretta's lips widened into a grin as she took note of me. From her huge grin I knew her heart leaped with joy. Which was weird for me. I mean why would she be so happy to meet me? I am just an ordinary secretary to her son."Ophelia." She called out with every ounce of your joy she could show. My lips turned into a small smile and I moved forward. "Ma'am." I greeted."Oh my goodness, you are real." She said as she touched her chest. She pulled me into an instant hug and squeezed me tight. Okay, this treatment I am receiving is weird for me today."You don't know how much I missed you." Maureen said and I noticed she was crying. She was crying? For me?I am really heartless.I crouched down to her level and cupped her face in my palms. "I am so sorry, Maureen. I promise you I won't leave again." I said and she blinked her eyes."You won't?" She asked and I nodded my head. "I won't." I stood up."Okay then. I have so many things to show you." She said and was
