Chapter 2: the walls around my heart.

Chapter 2: The walls around my heart.

After being betrayed and being hurt by so many people, I decided to keep as much distance as I could from all people, so in this way I ended up as an introvert. I focused on my education and managed to get admission in a top Medical College but still after such a huge achievement, something was not right, I felt nothing but emptiness in my life. Although I was popular among people for my good grades and my cute looks, especially among boys, such shallow thoughts no longer impressed me as I was once despised by people for my very own appearance.

I did manage to change my appearance according to the way people like it, but the scars that body shaming left on my self esteem never healed. Near the end of my undergraduate years, I started getting marriage proposals but no one managed to win my trust and my heart.

For the very first time and especially when I was near my death, I felt sincerity and care and this feeling of genuineness

came from a person who is a total stranger to me.

That night at which I met that person, I sat under the dark sky that was filled with twinkling stars wondering whether I will ever meet him again. Thinking if he didn't come at the right moment, I would have jumped off the roof. I would have been dead by now lying soullessly on a frozen ground with blood all over my body.

My parents would have been extremely sad to see such a tragic ending of their daughter's life. My haters would've been celebrating my departure. It would have been such a sad ending to my life.

Immersed in these thoughts, I fell asleep on my balcony. In the morning, a gentle breeze blew all over my body and took all my sadness and despair along with it. I wake up by the call from the hospital informing me to report at 8:00 am in the research department.

I looked at my clock and it was 7:45 am. I hurriedly ran towards my room to get ready. Something was different about that day as I totally forgot all my worries and the fact that I was so close to my death a day before. I got ready and hurried towards my hospital.

Suddenly a car stopped in front of me and Ben came out of that car. "Ben! Why are you here. Don't you know we have to report to the research department at 8:00."

"I'm here to pick you up, hurry and sit in the car."

Ben opened the door of his car for me to sit. I swiftly jumped into his car and ended up bumping my head with the door. Ben started laughing and gave me an ice pack to apply on it.

Ben was my closest friend in whole Medical University. We knew each other for the past 4 years. He always tried to help me but I was always reluctant to accept his help as he was the only son and successor of a successful businessman of the city and I didn't want people to misunderstand our friendship.

His father was also against our friendship as he always thought of me as a parasite leaching on his son.

We reached hospital at 8:15 am. We were already late on our first day in the new department. We ran towards the auditorium and suddenly I bumped into a tall man wearing the black dress. I looked towards him and my color turned pale as he was the same man who saved me last night.

Our eyes met for a few seconds and my heart started pounding as if it would get out of my chest. I looked towards the ground, apologized to him and headed towards the auditorium with Ben.

Never have I ever seen such a handsome man. Never in my life, my heart skipped a beat. Never in my life, I got mesmerized by someone's aura and personality this much.

I held my chest tightly and entered the hall.

My other friends were waiting for me around the corner. Yes, my other so-called friends were waiting for me in the corner.

They were perfect examples of snakes in disguise. Their actions were sharp like snake fangs and their words were more poisonous than snake venom.

They were Ben's friend to begin with but as Ben liked to hang out with me often, they also somehow became my friends.

After spotting them in the front row of the hall, I waved at them and went there to look for our seats.

Among these friends, one was Liza. Liza was Ben's childhood friend and their parents wanted them to get together but due to some reasons not known to me, Ben was always against it but Liza was trying her best to stick with Ben and to win his heart somehow. Our other friend was Liza's brother Henry. I never understood why I ended up among them but that's how it was.

We settled down on our seats and all the lights in the auditorium turned off. Then

a person enters the stage and the spotlight focuses on him. "Him again.", I said loudly.

Ben turned towards me and asked," Do you know him."

"No, I don't. He looks like someone I know so I was surprised at first sight." I replied.

Ben turned towards the stage and I started to cover my face but unfortunately my seat was in the front row and that man kept on staring at me.

He came towards the podium, took the mic and started to introduce himself, "I'm Brent Jones from Harvard University specializing in neurosurgery. I'm invited here as a Head supervisor of a new research project."

Before he finished his introduction, all the girls in the hall went nuts and started asking absurd questions about his personal life and his relationship status.
