Chapter 16

When Su Jianxi returned home again, Shen Siming’s car was already gone from the garage, and the huge manor was extremely quiet.

Su Jianxi did not want anyone to know she had come back for her phone, so she walked toward the living hall in the darkness.

When she found her phone in the crack of a couch, she remembered what had happened that night and realized that she might not be able to stay here again any time soon, so she went upstairs.

The only thing she wanted to take away from the Su Family was the necklace her mother gave her before she died.

Once she had the necklace, Su Jianxi quickly reemerged from her room, but when she walked past the study, she overheard Su Bohai’s conversation with Qin Fen.

“Bohai, my right eyelid has been twitching a lot lately. It feels like something’s gonna happen. Do you think Jianxi reacted so differently today because she found out about something?”

“Jianxi will find out about Siming and Huanran eventually.” Su Bohai was writing calligraphy with a brush, and he did not really seem to care.

“I didn’t mean that. I’m talking about Jianxi’s mother.”

Su Jianxi had intended to leave, but she stiffened at that. Were they… still hiding something from her?”

“The past is past, and the hospital never noticed anything. What are you worried about?”

“But Ye Chujun’s head doctor knows that we poisoned her. Although that doctor has retired now, I’m still worried.”

“That doctor is overseas, and I have eyes on him twenty-four seven. Don’t worry too much about it, and never mention this again.”

To Su Bohai, that was a part of his life that he never wanted to think about.

He had only married Ye Chujun back then because she was the Ye Family’s daughter.

Later, he struck it big on his own, so he did not need Ye Chujun.

Su Jianxi stood at the door, listening to the entire conversation with her hand over her mouth. Her expression was that of utter disbelief.

If she had not returned for her phone, she would never have known that Su Bohai and Qin Fen had killed her mother.

She had been comforting herself by saying that at least Su Bohai felt bad for her, but now she knew how naive she had been.

Su Jianxi had no idea how she walked out of the Su Family house. It was cold outside, but she felt even colder inside.

She turned around and looked at the manor standing in the darkness. One word at a time, she said slowly, “Mom, I will avenge you!”

Just then, there was a piercing light from the distance.

Su Jianxi turned around and looked directly at the blinding light. It was a world of white.

When she saw one of the car lights, though, she could already guess who the driver was.

Li Tingxiao dimmed his headlights and slowly drove up to Su Jianxi’s side.

“Get in,” Li Tingxiao ordered her.

“How do you know where my house is? What do you do for a living, Li Tingxiao?” Su Jianxi got into the car and hugged Li Tingxiao’s waist. This man knew everything about her, but she did not know what he did for a living.

“I’m a debt collector.” Li Tingxiao’s voice was deep and especially seductive in the shadow of the night. “You’re my wife. How could I not know where you stay?”

Su Jianxi did not say anything, but Li Tingxiao brought her directly to the fanciest hotel in the city.

“Aren’t we going home?” Frowning, Su Jianxi looked at Li Tingxiao, who was holding a hotel room card in his hands.

“This is the second time today that you’ve suggested we go home. Why are you in such a rush? It’s not like I won’t satisfy you. This is our wedding night, so it’s no fun if we go home.”

The corners of Su Jianxi’s mouth twitched. “Li Tingxiao, why does it feel like you’re actually planning to marry me for real?”

“Jianxi, from the moment I said I wanted to keep you, have I ever once lied?”

The man’s words made Su Jianxi’s smile freeze on her face, but Li Tingxiao took advantage of her stupor to open the room door and pull her inside.

He lowered his head and kissed her.
