A dance with the Lycan Prince

" Call me Ilebaye. Don't be so formal or I'll feel awkward."

Having him call me Miss Brook feels awkward. I prefer he uses my first name.

" Sure, you can also call me Cross.

Just Cross.

Let's forget about titles for tonight and enjoy this dance."

Cross proposed and I nodded in agreement.

I danced with Cross and although my dancing skills were rusty, I managed to keep up with him.

As we continued swaying to the music, I felt a piercing glare directed my way.

Turning to look in that direction, I saw nothing.

Everybody was busy doing their own thing.

Shrugging off the feeling, I decided to concentrate on the man before me.

It was easy actually, Just followed his lead and I found myself enjoying it.

The man had a great body, I was surprised I hadn't noticed that before.

He wasn't a gym rat, but he looked as though he spent a lot of time on his feet.

He is a Lycan Prince after all so I did not expect any less.

" Do you have a mate?"

Cross asked, making me tense for a moment.

I shook my head.

 "No, and yes."

I answered and I saw the confusion plastered on his face making me smile.

" I have a mate but he rejected me.

He said I am not worthy.

So he rejected me but I didn't accept the rejection I am planning on putting an end to the bond soon by accepting the rejection."

 I replied.

" Whoever your mate is, I must say he's stupid."

Cross said, making me cock my brows at him.

" I mean like which man would not want you for a partner?

You are beautiful, intelligent and I even heard you are a doctor" Cross added.

" Apparently, that's not enough for him."

I replied. I just met him so there is no way I will tell him I have a child.

As much as I tried concealing the sadness in my voice, It still came out.

" So what's your plan?" Cross asked.

My plan? I don't know either.

" Honestly, I am still figuring this out but one thing is for sure, I am breaking off this cursed bond.

I want to concentrate on my career.

Saving lives is what I enjoy most and that's where I'll dedicate my time and life.

" I replied.

To me, that's the only way I could feel that I was alive.

" That's good to hear," Cross said with a smile.

" Don't get caught up in your bitterness and hatred.

Life is beautiful and there are countless men out there willing to love you and make you happy."

Cross said but why do I have a feeling that the man he's talking about is one of them?

Well, there's only one way to find out.

Since Uriel believes that I can find a good man to marry me as a chosen mate, why should I let this chance go?

After getting rejected by my mate, one thing is for sure, love alone isn't enough for a relationship to work.

If love is essential, then my mate would not have ruthlessly rejected me.

Feelings can be cultivated, with time, I will learn to love him.

If there is no love whatsoever, we will just learn to live peacefully with each other.

" Are you among those men Cross?"

I asked with a calm expression.

Truth is, my heart was racing as I waited for his answer.

" Yes, Ilebaye.

If you would allow me, I want to make you the happiest woman.

I will give you the title and position you deserve as my wife and the Queen Luna of the Shadow Community.

I will give you whatever you desire and will love you more than any man has ever done.

If that's enough, then will you make me your man Ilebaye?"

He asked with sincerity that I found it difficult to resist.

" Don't act so seriously, Cross, you are scaring me."

 I manage a nervous smile.

I never expected that from him.

" I am not forcing you Into anything Ilebaye.

Take your time to think.

 I will see you soon."

With that, Cross pulled me into his arms, hugging me tightly just in time for the music to come to a stop.

With a smile on his face, Cross walked away.

I decided to take a tour of the washroom to freshen up and breathe some fresh air.

I walked through the front door and headed

straight to the direction of the washroom

The feeling of someone watching me crept up again but this time, I felt like someone was following me.

Turning around abruptly, nothing came into my view.

The party was held at the pack's hall and although it's been five years since I stepped foot here, I easily found my way.

The hallways, the turnarounds, it's something I knew by heart.

After all, this is where Neo, Marcus, Uriel, and I used to play hide and seek.

Taking one last turn, I entered the washroom.

The place was eerily quiet. I was the only one inside.

Using my arms to learn at the tap basin, I observed myself.

I am beautiful with an oval-shaped face, and hazel eyes which Uriel always says look sexy.

If Cross can recognize that I am beautiful and exceptional, why can't my mate do the same?

I know that I'm being pathetic having these thoughts but I can't help it, my wolf Haven whimpered in pain and agony when she saw our mate being intimate with another woman.

Why?

Why won't he accept us?

Am I really a curse as he said when he rejected me?

Am I not worthy of his love and affection?

Tears started rolling down my face as those thoughts plagued my mind.

Is this really the end for us?

I might have said that I wanted to move on from him, but a small part of me still wants to be with him.

Is it wrong to hope for the person you love to love you back?

Am I doomed to be unhappy forever?

" Hello, mate?"

A voice so deep and enchanting sounded from behind me.

Slowly, I lifted my head and the face I saw reflected in the mirror made my blood turn cold and my heart beat impossibly fast.
