His Possession. Lyla Atelo. I wanted to defy him. Everything he said, I wanted him to take it all back. I wanted him to change his mind— I wanted to change him... for me. I was really pathetic, I know. "Actually," I sidestepped him and went back to the sofa, relishing the shock on his face. "I didn't just come here to drop the food. There are other pressing matters I would like to discuss with you." His jaw clenched in anger. "The night is getting darker, Lyla. You need to leave and never come here again." "I've noted that part." I waved my hand dismissively. "But since you've kindly given me your driver for the night, then I guess I'm all covered and safe. You needn't worry about that, right?" I smiled sweetly, ignoring the insistent vibrations of my phone. The idea had come immediately, and I thought of the best way to talk about it without raising suspicion. Mrs. Michelle's face flashed in my mind. Sage stared at me for a few seconds after ruminating what I had said before waving off Mr. Taylor. He sat down beside me, his leg bopping in frustration. I did a little happy dance in my head that I was able to elicit this kind of frustration in him. "You better speak fast, or I wouldn't mind calling the guards to carry you out." His voice was cold but strained as he said the last part. Something at the back of my mind told me he wouldn't let anyone lay a single finger on me. If he wanted me out, he would be the one to carry me out. But still... I was humbled at the thought that he could throw me out of his house if he wanted to. No questions asked. "Do you really fund the school?" I asked after a while. He looked surprised, but the expression was gone as soon as it came. "What do you mean?" "Everyone fears you and all, so I was wondering if you play so much of a big part in funding the school." He looked at me carefully before replying. "I'm sure you already knew about that. What exactly is your question?" I took a deep breath, hoping I wasn't caught as soon as I delved deeper into the conversation. "Between you and the principal, who holds the highest power in the school." He thought for a while before replying. "Michelle is a direct descendant of the school's founder, that is why she runs the school. But she is terrible at managing the funds of the school that is why parents fund the school." "And I hear your family doubles the payment of everyone combined. That means you hold the most stakes in school?" "What are you driving at, Lyla?" His eyes narrowed as they stared at me. "Do you need help? Is anyone bothering you in school?" My mind drifted to Sara and her mother. Apart from both of them, my time in the school was actually fun. It was great to teach different students and also learn from them. I shook my head immediately. "No. I'm just curious. That's all." But his eyes told me he didn't believe me. He sat up and stared at me seriously for the first time this evening. "I have given strict instructions to Michelle concerning you." My heart skipped a beat and my eyes widened at that. "What do you mean? What instructions?" "You are solely under my protection." He said it with a hint of possessiveness in his voice. "Anyone who tries to hurt you, or even breathes negatively towards your way will be let go from the school immediately. I don't care if that means the expulsion of all the students in the school, or relieving all the staff in the school. You're not supposed to be touched." I didn't know if I should be grateful, or scared. Why did he keep sending mixed signals? He wanted me to be protected, but still called me a stranger. "I... I don't know what to say..." His frown lines deepened. "After that incident with you drowning, no one was able to find out who pushed you inside. And you have refused to tell me the students that were around you at the time. To make matters worse, there were no security cameras in that area." "There were..." I said absentmindedly. "They were just broken off." He leaned forward almost immediately. "You lied." "What?" "You lied that you didn't know who they were." It was like he was trying to keep his anger under control. "Just like you're lying that no one is bothering you." "I'm not lying." I immediately countered him. His lips curled. "Your voice shakes when you lie. Sweat coats your forehead when you're thinking of a lie... And your eyes... Those beautiful eyes," he breathed, "they twitch when you lie, Lyla." The atmosphere had gotten intense all of a sudden. How was he able to control the environment really fast? "I can only think of a few people who would dare to go against me in that school." He closed his eyes and breathed out, leaning back into the sofa. "And Lyla... I swear to God... If you don't tell me who is bothering you in school, I will turn the whole school upside down just to get the person. And you should know I'm not messing around. Save me the stress. Save the people you like the stress." His eyes were still closed and he had gone back to talking slowly, but his words were lethal. And I didn't doubt him one bit. "There are only three people who could bully you... Michelle, her daughter, and Elijah." He continued. "I will strike Elijah out because he doesn't have the balls to go against something I've marked as mine. So tell me... Between the mother and the daughter, who is it?" He was talking like I was already in his possession. As if belonged to him. It was annoying, and at the same time extremely captivating. "I don't belong to you! I'm not something you mark." I replied with indignation. He still didn't open his eyes. "Michelle or Sara, Lyla? I won't ask again."Chapter 50The Twist.Lyla Atelo.“I'm not…”“…wealthy enough to purchase this? Of course I know that. Sage gifted this to you, right?” Her eyes were beaming in joy. She didn't look disgusted at all about anything.“What other things did he get for you?” She peered into the box that sat in front of us, trying to rummage through it.“You know I can't accept this, right?” Right now, I needed her support for me to turn down these gifts. It was too much. I couldn't handle something this big.“Why not?” Ivy paused and lifted her head to stare at me with a frown.“It's not right, and you know that.” I tried to stress out, but Ivy didn't seem to be following. “He is… you know, he's my student. I'm his teacher. This kind of thing isn't supposed to be going on between us.”Ivy's eyebrows rose further up and she rolled her eyes. “Take it as a simple gift from a student.”“Simple? You call this simple?” I pointed to the document that still lay on the table. “It's a freaking Jewellery store. Not
Chapter 49A Brand New Owner.Lyla Atelo.Sage wasn't in school for the rest of the week, and today was Friday. I had texted him over and over again, but he never responded. I was tempted to go over to his house, but I didn't want a repeat of the last time.I was currently sitting in my office when the door was forcefully pushed open, and my least favourite person walked into the office.“Hello, Sara.” I folded my hands on my table and sat up to face her squarely. She gave me a once-over before taking in my office as if she had never been here before.“Will Sage be coming for Camp?” She asked outrightly.“Excuse me?”“You heard me right. Or are you dumb?”I choose to ignore her choice of words. “I heard you loud and clear, but what I don't understand is why you're asking me.”“Aren't you the one he's fucking?” She said calmly, not at all fazed by the vulgarity of what she was saying.“If you were remanded in court and asked to prove those allegations, would you be able to?”“Don't you
Chapter 48Naughty Little Slut.Lyla Atelo.I woke up the next morning feeling refreshed and optimistic for some unknown reason. I turned to my side, watching Michael sleep peacefully beside me. I rolled my eyes and began to prepare for school.“You're quite late today. That's so unlike you.” Dominic, one of my male colleagues, pointed out as we walked side by side down the corridor.I shrugged. “I slept late, and I woke up late.”His mouth curved into a small smile, “Your husband kept you up all night, aye?” He teased slightly, and it took all of me not wince at his words.I forced a smile on my face with a little ‘heh heh’ to avoid the question. “So, are you prepared for the camping experience?”He understood my discomfort and immediately changed the subject. “I wasn't picked. There are only two male teachers coming while the rest are females. Aren't you aware of this?” He squinted as if trying to remember something. “Seeing that you're the coordinator of the camp?”“Coordinator?” I
Chapter 47Coming To Camp?Lyla Atelo.I came home with a stupid smile on my face. Sage had made my entire evening and I was just smiling like a fool.“You're back," my husband appeared from the corner of the doorway leading to the kitchen. He wore an apron which suggested that he was cooking.I frowned slightly at the sight of that, while waiting for him to complain that I had come home late.“I'm back, yes.” I smiled a little at him.“And in high spirits as well.” He noted that part, “I hope you had a great day at work.”“I did. How about you?” I shrugged off my shoulder bag which was beginning to get heavy and set it on the table, taking in a deep breath of what he was cooking.“I made dinner. Would you like some?” He noted the actions of my nose before asking, but I shook my head immediately.I knew my husband by now. I could guess what he wanted from me, but I waited for him to say it. Michael never did any nice things for me unless he wanted something in return, and this wasn't
Chapter 46Take Me Home.Lyla Atelo.Sage did not say anything until the car came to a stop in a luxurious shopping mall where he went back to driving mode, parking the car at the exclusive parking lot. He stepped out to open the car for me, taking my arm in his."What are you doing? Where are we going? Why are we here?" I asked him even if I could guess what exactly it was that we were doing here."Shopping." He shrugged. "I saw on the internet that you should take a woman shopping when she is angry. It— ""But I'm not angry. Why would I be?"He gave me a quick look before shutting the car. "Yeah, right, you aren't. But I'm here to apologise anyway."Amidst my protests, Sage had his arms hooked around mine until we reached one of the most expensive jewellery stores in the city."Pick anything you'd like. Diamonds. Gold. Silver. Precious stones. Anything." He said as he signalled one of the sales assistants to come over. The girl gave me a once-over, and she did not hide her displeasu
Chapter 45In The Car.Lyla Atelo."Get In the car, Lyla." Sage's voice came in a little stronger this time as he looked over my shoulders. "Unless you want your colleagues to keep speculating that something is going on between us."Our eyes met when he said that, and I paused to think. Did he also have in mind the same question I had? I wanted to ask if there was actually something going on between us, but I didn't dare voice my question out. I didn't want to sound desperate, but still... something that Michelle said earlier egged me at the back of my mind."What do you think about Ivy?" I averted my gaze from his face and looked down to the tarred road. I looked everywhere else but at him. "Is it true you're into older women, and I'm just one of your conquest?"I suddenly felt the cold night wind hit my skin, and I looked up in alarm to see Sage backing away from him. He stared at me with an emotion I couldn't decipher before spinning his car key between his thumb and index finger.
