Cammie looks up from her plate while eating, she’s watching Robin go though the desk drawers. “What are you looking for?” She asks him. Robin looks up, “trying to find my map of the mountain”. “It’s in the organiser that’s standing on the top of the desk, the file with the red label, OTHER.” Cammie points over to a pink marbled magazine file that’s standing on the desk. Inside, it has a few thin files and some paperwork neatly organised into it. Robin reaches for the plastic file with the label other. He takes it out of the magazine holder and flips it open. It’s one of those plastic flip files where paperwork can be stored in individual plastic folders. Inside it he finds some user manuals for various items that he and Mindy bought new for the cabin and some guarantor receipts and insurance receipts for things he didn’t even know needed insurance. My Alaskan Mountain Man Town
First thing in the morning, Cammie is dressed in one of the two pairs of tracksuit bottoms, a green t-shirt and Robins grey hoody. She pulls the curtain aside and she can see that the sun is just starting to peak through the trees in the distance, but it’s still dark out. She knows it still pretty early and the chances are, Robin is still asleep, but she can’t lay in bed any longer, waiting for him to get up. Going into the kitchen now, she can see all of the lights are still out and the living room is still pitch black meaning Robin must still be asleep. Quietly, she stalks into the kitchen, waits a moment for her eyes to adjust to the dark, then sets to work making a pot of coffee and puts some porridge on to cook. May as well get a good breakfast in and make sure Robin is well fed before heading out to town. She doesn’t know how long the drive into town is, but she does know it’s a way off. Unaware as to what Cammie is currently witnessing outside the store, Robin scans the store for woman’s hiking gear. That’s when he hears the door chime go and then hears familiar voices over at the counter where Tobin is sitting. It’s none other then his twin brother Adam and Mindy his ex. He ducks down slightly trying not to be seen as he listens in on their conversation with Tobin. Tobin greets them both, “Mindy, Adam” “Tobin, good to see you”, Robin hears his brothers voice for the first time in nearly eight months. From where he is standing hidden behind the clothing racks he can see that Mindy looks like she’s about to pop that baby out any day now. Cammie knows she’s fucked up. After sitting quietly for the whole two minute drive to the sheriff’s station Cammie breaks the silence with, “I’m sorry! I know I embarrassed you and I...” Robin interrupts what’s she’s saying with, “Cammie, do you know what you’ve done?” He says in an irritated tone, “everyone was supposed to believe that you are my long lost cousin.” “Now, the whole town thinks your my girlfriend.” Cammie gets defensive, “would it be that awful if the whole town were to think I’m your girlfriend? What exactly is the difference if I’m your girlfriend or your looong losttt cousin?” She says vehemently. Cammie and Willow are both sitting in the rear seats of the truck catching up with each other as Robin drives the truck. The men are discussing Robins plan for the hike he and Cammie intend to embark on tomorrow morning. “Have you got everything you need for your hike?” Sheriff asks. Cammie and Willow stop chatting now so they can hear what is being said between the men. “I am pretty sure I have everything I need” Robin reply’s. “Please tell me you will be careful, I don’t like the idea of Cammie going back to that cliff” Willow interjects. “It will be fine, I’ll be careful and I’ll have Robin there to help me and to protect me if need be” Cammie reassures her. After a night of tossing and turning Cammie gets up before sunrise for a second morning in a row. Nervous about going back to the cliff edge, where Robin found her and where it had all happened. Terrified that she may find Callie’s clean picked bones scattered along the forest floor she gets up out of bed switches the light on and checks the time. It’s only three thirty am. Careful not to make any noise she goes through the bag of clothing from the Mountain Outfitters store. She lays all the items on the bed neatly. Checking the jeans over, they don’t look too bad, but she decides to go with the hiking trousers that have thermal lining in because she can tell there’s still a nip of cold in the air. Once dressed in her navy trouser, long sleeved baby blue top, fleece and burgundy coloured fluffy socks, Cammie checks the time again. It’s four-twenty-three am. After one last discussion about how to stay safe while hiking in the Alaskan mountains and the forest, which animals to look out for and how to keep from getting injured. Robin grabs his rucksack and rifle before they head out the door, lock it and start walking. Robin takes Cammie to the edge of his property line, it’s a large area that is attached to his fathers property. The further they go, the denser the forest becomes as they walk uphill towards the cliff that can be seen in the distance. Once the cliff comes into sight, Robin immediately sees a change in Cammie’s demeanour. From the moment she laid eyes on the cliff side, he could see she’d become withdrawn, quiet and her face furrowed along her brow. Her lips pursed together tightly with worry and he could tell her mind was in a dark place.
