Chapter 4

Nathan

“Ok, do you want to explain what that was?” Derek looks at me and furrows his brow.

“Alright, well. Savannah works in my building, under Misty. This mor-”

“Ah, so she’s your next fling? Now it all makes sense.” He just shakes his head at me and looks down at his menu.

I can’t help the growl that escapes my throat. When a few humans dining around us look our way, I throw in a cough or two for good measure.

“You will not refer to her as a fling again Derek, do you understand me?” I use my Alpha tone on him and he instantly shoots his gaze back up at me.

“Nathan, what the hell is going on? I’m your Beta, I need to know.”

I rake my fingers through my hair and lean back into my chair.

“I don’t know man, Nico said she’s my second chance mate. I feel the pull of the bond with her.” I honestly wish I could explain more to him, but I don’t understand it anymore myself.

“She’s a human Nate!” He looks around to make sure no one heard him and then leans in towards me.

This time I control the growl at his derogatory use of the term. “Yeah, I know. I don’t understand it either.”

“Alright, well, are you going to introduce her to the pack? How are you wanting to handle this?” He obviously is as confused about the situation as I am.

I sigh, bouncing my knee anxiously. The space between us is making me nervous, and it’s getting worse every minute we don’t acknowledge the bond. But I can’t scare her off. “I think for now I need to proceed with caution. She’s a human so she doesn’t know we’re mates. From the way she is reacting to our touch, she feels the pull, but is not sure what it means.”

I take a sip from my glass and catch a glimpse of Savannah walking out the back door. The need to protect overwhelms me, and I ignore Derek’s confused reaction as I jump out of my seat and trail closely behind her.

“Is everything ok Savannah?”

“Oh my God!” She jumps back and widens her eyes. I can hear her heart pounding in her chest, and I know I frightened her. The last thing I wanted to do.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you. Why are you in this alley?”

“Um, I needed to take a break. This is where I like to come, since the front is such a busy street. Wait, why are you in this alley?” She narrows her beautiful eyes at me and I realize I’m probably looking like a creep at the moment.

I don’t care. I’m desperate to touch her. “You’re absolutely beautiful, do you know that? I needed to make sure you were ok. That you weren't going to be in any danger out here, by yourself.” I take a step towards her and her chest starts to move up and down as her breath quickens.

“Thank you? I guess.” She blushes and bites her bottom lip, instantly making my member twitch and Nico pant in my head.

I take another step towards her and she steps back into the wall. I place my hands above her head on the rough brick wall and lean into her. She doesn’t move and I take it as a signal to continue.

I press my lips onto hers, closing the gap between us, and pure ecstasy shoots throughout my body. I haven’t felt this in so long. She must feel it too because she lets out a moan and I can smell her arousal grow. I lick her bottom lip but she denies me access to her mouth. I pull back and stare deeply into her eyes.

“I feel a strong connection to you Savannah, and I know you feel it too. I can sense it, I can’t explain to you why right now, but I do.” I move a strand of hair out of her face. If only I could just tell her what it means. It would make everything so much easier. Maybe she would take it better than I expect. I open my mouth to speak, to tell her the truth.

Just as the door opens and another server starts yelling.

“Savannah! What are you doing out here? We’re slammed!”

Savannah shakes her head and pushes me away.

“You said you needed to make sure I was ok. Well, you can see that I’m fine, so I’m going to get back inside now. I’ll come get both of your orders in just a minute!”

She hurries past me then turns around.

“One more thing. Don’t think this will be happening again Mr. Daniels. It was a weak moment. I will not sleep my way to the top, like all the other girls who work for you.” She narrows her brows at me before running inside and letting the heavy door slam.

I punch the wall and let out a snarl. I blew it.

I lick my lips, tasting her still on them, and a growl rumbles in my chest. I know that the taste of her tongue will be better still. I can’t even let myself imagine what she will taste like when I have her cumming in my mouth.

When I finally make my way back inside, I see Savannah slip into the kitchen.

“What did you do now, Nate?” Derek looks nervous.

“I told her I felt a connection to her, and that she’s beautiful. She said she won’t sleep her way to the top like the other girls who work for me.” I sigh heavily, defeat settling over my shoulders.

Derek just starts rolling in laughter. I’m surprised he doesn’t fall off his chair, he’s laughing so hard.

“Tell me again how you became the most eligible bachelor in New York?” He wipes a tear away, and I shake my head in embarrassment.

“Man, what am I supposed to do? You know I can’t let her go.” I drop my elbows onto the table and rest my forehead in my hands.

Derek sobers up momentarily. “Well, you’re certainly going to need to work for it.”

“Ok, gentlemen, what can I get you two to eat tonight?” Savannah is suddenly next to us and I can tell by her tone she is definitely not happy to be here.

“Sava-”

“Save it, Mr. Daniels. Please call me Miss Moss and let’s forget what just happened. Now, can I please get your order. I have a lot of tables to take care of tonight.” Her voice is tense, but I can still sense her arousal even from the distance she’s holding herself away from me.

I sigh, forcing everything I was about to say to her to take a backseat. We give her our dinner orders, request more drinks and she takes off without another word.

As soon as she’s gone, I turn back to Derek. “I never thought I would get this chance again. The Moon Goddess obviously believes that Savannah and I belong together, and if I have a shot at being truly happy again, I have to take it.”

He just looks at me seriously and rubs his chin.

Derek reassures me quietly. “You’ll figure it out Casanova. You have a good heart Nathan, she’ll see that. There’s a lot that you need to make right though, starting with the drinking and sleeping around your office. Oh, and Tiffani may be an issue.” He points to my empty glass and I let out a sigh.

“I know man, I know.” I just didn’t know where I was supposed to start.

****

After we finish eating our diners, that another server brought us, we pay and leave, without seeing Savannah again. I haven’t seen her since I came back in and I can’t help but feel worried that I have lost her already. Hopefully she’ll be at work on Monday. But Monday already feels so far off, and I don’t know how I’m going to get through the weekend without seeing her.
