Chapter Eight—Lucien the brave(3)

I gasped loudly, taking a step back. He was definitely lying.

“You’re lying.” The tears in my eyes started to form, “You said it was my—

“I said it begins.” He cut me off, raking a hand through that beautiful mane of hair on his damned scalp, “You really thought your first trial as the first Luna would be washing dishes?”

“I thought—

“I’m the Alpha of the red moon pack. I will not ruin the dignity of my pack by giving you such a measly trial.” He chuckled softly, “It was just a pre trial run. I wanted to test how much you could persevere.”

“How much I could persevere?!!” I finally snapped, “I worked a whole day, I filled a whole barrel and I almost ate algae, the men in your pack treated me like scum and all for—

“Oh.” He interrupted again for the umpteenth time, if he wasn’t stronger then me I was willing to ram my fist into that pretty mouth of his, “I instructed them to treat you that way. It’s a rite of passage in our pack, you won’t be treated as such in the future I promise.”

A stray tear finally fell from my cheek. Getting killed by the red eyed Alpha was a much better fate than the humiliation I’d just gone through, “You’re horrible. I want to go home.”

He walked towards me, I took another step back but instead he grabbed a hold of my arm and pulled me towards him. My heart thumped again, the stupid thing unable to grasp the reality of my situation.

“There’s a bit of fire inside of you, chosen one.” He smiled down at me, “I like that.”

Something about the Alpha made my innards churn, “Please let me—

“You should speak more. You’re under a trial, not a prisoner or slave. I don’t know how it’s possible for the moon goddess herself to pick someone like you.” I felt his hand go to the back of my neck where the mark lay.

I winced as he caressed it with his thumb, “That mark. It’s beautiful.”

I gulped hard, now feeling somewhat heated as his body pressed against mine. Years of being an unwanted lass in the Oasis brought my experience with males into question, my cheeks rose with color was I was downright flushed.

“Let me go.” I finally pleaded, “Please.”

He smirked, the damned Alpha, “I’ve never seen your eyes before. They’re purple.”

A lump formed in my throat. Here again he was, confusing me to the utmost level. I repeated, “Please.”

He finally released me from his grasp and dusted off his hands, “Tomorrow your real trial begins. Sorry for how my pack treated you, they’ll be more tame I promise. I’ll have a maid draw your bath, and have you fed. Goodnight my Luna.”

He left and I stared at my door again. I was beyond famished and all I could think of was what had just happened. I’d known the three Alphas for only a short period of time, and Lucien was the most confusing of them all.

*********

He fulfilled his promise. I was fed, a bath was drawn out for me with cold water and rosemary leaves to wring out the stench that filled my body. My heart was content by the time I slipped into a pair for fresh clothes, a simple maiden dress with an embroidered hem—it was nowhere fancy but better then the regular clothes I had as a healer back home.

My hair had darkened the water which had the maid frowning as she took the barrel out of the washroom to get rid off. She was an old woman who didn’t speak, probably another Omega. I gulped hard as she handed me a comb to get the mat out of my hair. I couldn’t be bothered, exhaustion already creeping in as I laid on my bed.

The morning came swiftly and I heard another knock on the door. I scrambled to my feet, now ready for Buck and his sneers when he walked in. It came as a pleasant surprise, the expressionlessness on his face.

“Breakfast is being served.” He announced, “The Alpha wants you to join him.”

My brow arched. It felt different now. I tagged behind him as we both exited my room, now into the same chamber that looked vastly different. The pack members were all quiet, their breakfast being served in front of them, no noise, no chatter—some even nodded in acknowledgment of my presence which threw me aback.

“There you are.” I felt a cold hand on my shoulder, almost yelping in fright as Lucien appeared from nowhere, he was behind me.

“What’s going on?” I couldn’t help but ask.

“She speaks.” He smiled at me, the nerve of the demon himself to look dashing in the morning after my meaningless torment, “It suits you.”

“What?” I blinked.

Out of nowhere he bought out a flower, one which he placed on my ears, “It’s a lavender. I told you I liked your eyes, remember?”

I couldn’t remember. I was too busy garnering the last bit of energy to even remain standing.

“Oh.” was all I could say.

“You look much better now that you’re all cleaned up.” He said, hand still on my shoulder, “Join me for breakfast.”

I nodded like the moping idiot I was and started to walk towards one of the tables when he stopped me, “Where do you think you’re going?”

My brow arched, “Breakfast?”

He chuckled, “No. I’m the Alpha and you’re the chosen Luna. You’re special. Come with me.”

I started to blink again as he pulled me away from the area.

“Where are we—

“My room.”

“What?”

“Don’t worry.” He chuckled, “I won’t bite.” Something sparked in his eyes, it made my inside churn again, “Although I can’t make any promises.”

The Alpha of the red moon pack was strange—too strange. I was scared, not because I was terrified, but rather the way my heart thumped with each physical touch.
