The red eyed alpha grunted, his eyes cruel when they beamed at me. Nik, the gentlest of them all let out a brief sigh when he raked a hand through his hair. “I suggest a trial.” “A trial?” The other two chorused. A trial?? I couldn’t also help but be confused by his words. He nodded, “Yes. A trial. I suggest three trials to prove her legitimacy. We’ll test for her strength, loyalty and connection to the moon goddess.” “Hmmmm.” Lucien couldn’t help but smirk, “How do you suggest we do that?” The gentle alpha shrugged, “It’s up to us to figure that out. If she passes all the trials, then she can be accepted as the chosen one.” There was silence in the room. I dreaded it. I didn’t want this position, I never asked to be chosen by the red moon. All I wanted to do was ret
Chapter Four—The summoning They looked normal. The hidden chamber was really just a smaller room below a flight of stairs at the bottom of the temple. I went blue with fright, not knowing what I was to see as the high priestess walked with me towards the end. She stopped right before the iron door in front of us, then she turned to me, “The people of the oasis depend on you now. You are the chosen Luna, fulfil your duty and bring peace to all the lands.” I was beyond dazed by her words. Such a huge responsibility, resting on the the shoulders of a orphan with nothing to her name, it was beyond cruel in my books. I could barely move when she turned around to leave. The room was silent, I placed an ear on the iron door and couldn’t hear anything. I knew what I had to do but my legs remained transfixed on the spot, balls of sweat trickling down my brows and palm. I gulped hard for the umpteenth time. “We know you’re there.” I heard a gruff voice
Chapter Three—The Escape Plan The Osasis was a small territory, this meant I could easily get out in an hour if I tread carefully. The whole town had broken into a chaos, their Luna had disappeared and they were at a loss for what to do. It was unheard for one to refuse the blessings of the moon goddess herself. This was no blessing, uprooting every part of my life for a cause that was practically useless. I hid behind one of the bushes in the main square, evading the sight of the town guards who marched in pursuit of me. I had a plan—impulsive, but still a plan nonetheless. The road leading to the red moon territory was just up ahead and even I knew it was a gamble I was playing. The people of the oasis were not allowed to go into the other packs territories, but I just needed to leave at the first sight of escape. I took a deep breath and started to count; One. Two.. Thre— “There you are!” One of the officers yelled as he caught a glimpse of my mark from one of
Chapter Two—The chosen Luna “Turn around.” I shook my head, vehemently refusing the priestess’s command. She said nothing to me, her eyes as cruel as ever signaling her aides. They rushed out of nowhere, two females, pummeling me to the ground. She signaled them again and they ripped off the back of my dress, I felt a stinging sensation no longer on my neck but my spine. “Great goddess.” She gasped loudly, seeing the glowing mark. I could hear the resounding murmurs and snickers from the crowd. It all came in full swing. Something came over me, I couldn’t tell what it was but it was a gnarly ache I wouldn’t wish on my worst of enemies. “Get up, child.” She muttered. I listened this time, rising to my feet and sending her aide on my right side a death glare for ripping my dress. The goddess was before me, bowl still in hand. She nudged the bowl towards my hands, the moon’s reflection being as clear as ever. I wanted to refuse but even I knew the truth. I nipped m
