The moment I close the door after crushing Mariah's heart into pieces, Jackson is staring at me like I've lost my mind.

"What the fuck was that?" he demands, his voice filled with anger.

"What was what?" I move away from the door, putting as much distance as possible between myself and the woman whose heart I just broke.

"That was you being a complete asshole to someone who obviously cares about you." Jackson follows me into the living room, his expression disgusted. "I've known you for two years, Cross, and I've never seen you treat anyone like that."

"Maybe you don't know me as well as you think you do."

"Bullshit." Jackson crosses his arms, studying my face. "When I got here twenty minutes ago, you were pacing around this apartment like a caged animal. You kept checking your phone, looking toward the door. You were waiting for her."
